Expert Solution
Step 1

Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) have been considered the primary culprit of liver damage during acute HBV infection among the different cell types that constitute the immune system.

Hepatitis B is a hepatitis B virus-induced, vaccine-preventable liver infection (HBV). Hepatitis B is transmitted when someone who is not infected enters the body with blood, semen, or other body fluids from a person infected with the virus.

Complications of Hepatitis B
While most people with chronic hepatitis B do not feel ill or even know they have it, some do have severe problems unless it is in its late stages. Chronic hepatitis B has the potential to contribute to:
Cirrhosis, or liver scarring. This makes it harder for the liver to do its job and can lead to liver failure eventually.

About liver cancer. Your doctor may recommend that you get an ultrasound test to see if there are any symptoms of liver cancer if you have chronic hepatitis B.
Failure of Liver. This is when the liver is not capable of doing its job anymore. You can also hear it called liver disease "end-stage". Only in extreme cases of chronic hepatitis B does this happen.
