What is the minimum amount of hydrogen gas, in grams, required to completely hydrogenate 15.5 kg of 2-butene?

Expert Answer

Step 1

Hydrogenation reaction is an addition reaction of alkene that leads to the formation of alkane. It involves the addition of H atoms on double bonded C atoms of alkene. Usually metal catalyst like Ni, Pd are used for hydrogenation of alkene.

Step 2

The balance chemical equation of hydrogenation of 2-butene is as given. Hence 1 mole of 2-butene reacts with 1 mole of hydrogen gas.
