What's a trip to identify proton relationships for NMR? I need help assigning homotopic, enantiotopic, and diastereotopic relationships.

Step 1

In proton NMR spectroscopy, different types of topicity are defined:

1. Homotopic

2. Enantiotopic

3. Diastereotopic


Step 2

To establish topicity relationships, different protons are replaced with a group and the resulting product is checked for stereochemical relationship.

Step 3

If replacing each of the two hydrogens, results in identical compound, the two protons are homotopic.
