When chlorine atoms react with atmospheric ozone, what are the products of the reaction?

Expert Answer

Step 1

The reaction involving chlorine atoms and atmospheric ozone as reactants is an example of a photochemical reaction. Chlorofluorocarbons are the species which reacts with UV light to release an unstable and highly reactive chlorine radical in the atmosphere. These chlorine radicals react with a thousand of molecules of atmospheric ozone which results in the ozone depletion.
