Expert Solution
Step 1

All living bodies-plants, animals or microscopic organisms, are made up of cells. The term 'cell' is derived from the Latin word cellulae which means empty rooms. if an organism is made up of only one or single cell, it is known as unicellular, e.g., Chlamydomonas, Amoeba. An organism that is made up of many cells, is called multicellular, e.g., human beings, other animals, insects, plans etc. Even in multicellular organisms, life starts with a single cell. It then develops into a full grown organism through the process of cell division and subsequent differentiation. In unicellular organisms, the single cell performs all the metabolic functions of the body. In case of multicellular organisms, each group of cells perform specific functions. So, there is division of labour among the cells. In higher multicellular organisms, identical cells form a tissue. Different tissues form an organ, while different organs form an organ system. Multiple organ systems constitute the body of an organism.
