Question

Write the complete reaction for the isomerization of citrate. Name the enzyme that catalyses these reaction andcprovide the formulas of the reactants and the product of these reaction ?

Expert Solution
Formation of Citrate

The citric acid cycle starts with the condensation of oxaloacetate, a 4C compound and acetyle coA, 1 2C compound. The reaction between oxaloacetate with acetyl CoA and water gives citrate and CoA. This is an aldol condensation reaction. It is then followed by hydrolysis in presence of enzyme citrate synthase to form citrate.
