Question

Briefly list three advantages and two disadvantages of energy production by fusion, as compared with fission. The equation E = mc2 was developed by what scientist? Identify what each of the letters stands for.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Nuclear fusion is a natural phenomenon, and it takes place in stars. Fission is a process in which heavier nuclei break into lighter and stable nuclei. In the fusion process, two light nuclei combine to form heavier nuclei, and the energy produced in the fusion reaction is in abundance. The nuclear fusion reaction does not create harmful waste in the environment. The energy produced by the fusion reaction can meet the energy demands of the present and future generations. It does release harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
