For this experiment we determine the Michaelis constant (Km) and the maximum velocity (Vmax) and inhibition of alkaline phosphate. Using the different graph created and different methods of calculation I was able to determine the Km and Vmax for the different mixtures, and also what type of inhibitor it was. For mixtures 1-5, the Vmax was 4.04 and the Km was 0.019. For mixtures 6-10, the Vmax was 3.82 and the Km was 0.023. Using the slope from the graph of Lineweaver-Burk for reactions 6-10 I was
Kevin Raible Advanced Molecular Biology Final Exam TITLE Mechanistic Analysis of Biguanide-Induced Inhibition of Oxidative Phosphorylation ABSTRACT Biguanide compounds are used clinically to treat a variety of conditions ranging from diabetes to malaria. Despite showing efficacy the underlying mechanisms of how these compounds work is still debated. It has be previously shown biguanides inhibit oxidative phosphorylation, specifically through inhibiting complexes in the electron transport
Behavioral Activation System (BAS) and Behavioral Inhibition System (BIS). Behavioral Activation System (BAS) is a neurobehavioral system thought to regulate positive affect and approach behavior in response to incentives or rewards. Individuals vary in the sensitivity of the system and it is associated with the personality factor of extraversion. This has to do with the positive side to a person’s life and opportunity overall. Behavioral inhibition system (BIS) is a neurobehavioral organization thought
Behavioral Inhibition System (BIS) and Behavioral Activation System (BAS) The Behavioral Inhibition System (BIS) and the Behavioral Activation System (BAS) are two neural motivational systems. Sensitivity to punishment is adjusted by Behavioral Inhibition System and sensitivty to reward is regulated by Behavioral Activation System. If there is imbalance between these BIS and BAS systems, it can cause some forms of psychological problems (Scholten, Honk, Aleman, & Kahn, 2006). Gray’s biopsychological
Lab Report Title Page: Determine Disinfectant and Antiseptic Effectiveness Using Zone Inhibition Method Prepared for: By: Date: Introduction Page: Abstract This study is to examine the effects of different types of disinfectants by disk diffusion method using common agents such as Betadine, Clorox, Crest, Kiss My Face, Listerine, and Lysol. Wound care and general cleaning of home surfaces is a part of daily activity for many of the general population. Knowing
paragraph, but I’ve always been a bit of a rebel, so I’ll probably just ramble and actually start talking just about now. (BTW my intent of this first paragraph was to break that 3rd wall that you seem to really hate.) I titled this “Love Without Inhibition”, because it was the title of a college essay I wrote. I know this is probably cheesy, but just like Mariah I wrote about you in one of my essays. I hope I gave it a bit more of a positive spin though. It began with me exploring what love is. I
Male Birth Control The birth control pill took the nation by storm when first being introduced over fifty years ago. When the oil was first introduced in the late 1950’s, numerous American women both single and married were thrilled (People & Events: Mrs. America: Women 's Roles in the 1950s , 2001). They were so open to the pill due to social factors that affected their reproductive lives (People & Events: Mrs. America: Women 's Roles in the 1950s , 2001). Since being introduced in the United States
Ornstein, T., Max, J., Schachar, R., Dennis, M., Barnes, M., Ewing-Cobbs, L., & Levin, H. (2013). Response inhibition in children with and without ADHD after traumatic brain injury. Journal of Neuropsychology, 7(1), 1-11. doi:10.1111/j.1748-6653.2012.02027.x Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) share many of the same symptoms and in some cases, ADHD is even a consequence of TBI. This is known as secondary ADHD (S-ADHD). Likely due to impaired frontostriatal
The purpose of this experiment was to determine which substance had the widest zone of inhibition. The average ZOI of the toothpaste was 1.13, the average ZOI of the bleach was 0.73 and the average ZOI of the antiseptic was 0.3. This discussion gives evidence and reason for why these results occurred. A major error that occurred during the experiment was when too much antiseptic liquid was put on the filter paper which resulted in it overflowing when it was put in the agar plate. The table of raw
Mechanism of melatonin stimulation of growth hormone release via somatostatin inhibition Joseph Angelo Israel Peguit University of the Philippines in the Visayas Cebu College Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division Abstract Secretion of growth hormone is affected by two primary hormones: Growth hormone-releasing hormone and somatostatin. The former is the primary stimulant to promote growth hormone secretion while the latter is the primary inhibitor that prevents growth hormone secretion
