- Firstly, as an educator, it is my duty to know the families of the children I care for and develop a positive relationship with them. I will talk and chat with them to be familiar with their cultural background. I will build a connection with them and earn their trust. I will respect them and acknowledge their beliefs. This will help me to figure out how their child is brought up and what philosophies they instilled to their child. Also, it will help me to communicate better and gain the trust of their child. After knowing the cultures and beliefs of each child I care for, I will create an activity or programme for the children that includes knowing each others culture. These s activities will help the children be exposed to multicultural …show more content…
This will open the minds of the children on how vast our planet is and how much different cultures there are in the world. This will also educate each child about what each nationality wears and also not to make fun of the people using those kind of clothes when they see one because each person has his/her own way of using their clothes and we should value and respect them. > Another activity for the children is scheduling a food tasting activity in the centre where in each child, also including the educators, bring their national dish to share in the centre. Of course I will be aware of the children 123whose background does not eat certain kinds of food and I will prevent them from doing so. This is a good exposure for the children and this will open their eyes on how different each culture is. > Lastly, I will suggest arranging a family day at the centre where in the whole family of the child will go to the centre and they can interact with other families. This activity will help develop families to have a good rapport to other families as well as the educators in the centre. This will also help the children to build a better communication with other kids as they see their parents communicating with other families and building a happy community full of respect and understanding to each
When in a setting it is important that you ensure that you and parents are working together to ensure that that child is learning the best possible way. It is key to ask parents to
The higher socio – economic groups are normally more likely to arrange gatherings and events, to introduce the younger generations to the variety of cultures, beliefs and values and therefore embracing them into the very community that they will shape in years to come.
After reading the book to the children I will engage the students in a classroom discussion that aims to uncover what they might know about their own cultural background. Questions posed could include, “do you know where you were born or where your mum and dad were born”, “do you speak any other languages at home and what is that language, can you say something to us in your home language?”. These questions aim to uncover the diverse cultures within the classroom and by engaging in a group discussion the students learn about each other and learn that they all have different experiences and cultures. According to Fellows and Oakley (2014) reading stories to children provides the ideal context to develop oral language which can be further enhanced with educator led discussion (pg. 90).
This can be done by having a two way relationship with parents for example parent’s evenings, this is when staff discusses children’s progress open days so parents can come in be welcomed and look around their child’s school or nursery. There can be coffee mornings, sharing information or just giving feedback to parents when they pick their child up from school at the end of the day.
Diversity refers to our differences such as culture, beliefs, values, views and life experiences. The concept of diversity is to accept, respect and embrace our differences. When people with these differences unite and share the same group or organization we see a diverse environment. Working in a childcare setting, we have the potential to work with an abundance of diversity. This can be very rewarding but can also pose challenges. Positively, we have the opportunity to promote the sense of individuality, sense of pride and belonging by providing a safe and nurturing environment. Discussing each other’s differences is a great way to learn and become aware of the differences in the world. One example of promoting
The life experience during the kid’s time is one of most important time in the life. I have learned this by the hard way. When people looking for how should their kids to learn, I think people should pay more attention to what are their kids learning. Times are changing, the old thought of teaching might not fit in today anymore. I am always hoping one day today’s student could teach kids, because today’s student knows more about what kids like, what should kids know at this time of the day. SEU’s CCU class’s Cultural Engagement Assignment have given me a chance to see my childhood dream in life. I have decided to go one of the activity on Saturday. I have gone three times, first time I want is because I have to; the second time I want is because I like it and I want to do something I can to help the kids, also I want to know about the kids grow up in the family that not so good. Before I want the activity, my understanding of “Cultural Engagement,” is the connection between the people and the cultural, but after I want the activity, my understanding of “Cultural Engagement” has changed, it became what kind of culture for the kids have been growing up have affected to their dream and behavior. I will never forget a point that so many pastors have mentioned - Christians should never need to tell others that they are Christian but people should able to tell that we are Christian. As being Christian, we need to show the love to others and share the God’s words and
1.1a Explain what is meant by Diversity Diversity is a reality created by individuals and groups from a broad spectrum of demographic and philosophical variations. It is important to support and protect diversity because of valuing individuals and groups free from prejudice, and by fostering a climate where equity and mutual respect are intrinsic. "Diversity" means more than just acknowledging and/or tolerating difference. Diversity is a set of conscious practices that involve: •Understanding and appreciating interdependence of humanity, cultures, and the natural environment. •Practicing common respect for qualities and experiences that are different from our own.

Today’s classroom is very diverse and the activities should represent the classroom culture. The development of children is centered on what is taught in the classroom. Therefore, the language, intellectual, personality, social and moral, and aesthetic and creative development of preschool age children should be enhanced through multicultural activities and lessons.
Group activities are a great way for children to gain knowledge about their peers, educator’s and the communities’ cultures and traditions. Children are able to visually see the different cultures and experience them for themselves in a group setting that would be interactive and visually stimulating. An educator could play some different language greetings on a CD and have the children repeat what they hear, to represent each of the children and staff at the centre. Giving the children an understanding of the diverse cultures at the centre will enhance their understanding and promote equality and minimise discrimination. When the children are in group setting it challenges their thinking and introduces alternative thinking to foster portative
Based on your own ideas and experience and with reference to the readings, discuss issues faced by children growing up with two cultures.
