1. What criteria do you consider to be of more importance? Ideas, proper English grammar or both? Support your answer.
I consider both ideas and grammar to be of great importance. Obviously the content must be relevant, well-researched, and organized in such a way the reader can easily traverse the body of work. However, grammar is also important as it affects the entire reader experience. Excessive misspellings or missing punctuation can the reader to be confused and possibly unable to connect with the author’s work. These two facets should work together to convey the position of the author with minimal disruption to the reader experience.
2. How would you assess a forum response or a peer assignment which is counter to your personal values? What feedback would you give in this situation?
I recently assessed a paper involving lab animals in confinement for the purposed of experimentation and research. While this is against my personal belief I was still able to see and understand the perspective of the author. Referring back to the previous question, the author’s ideas were well presented and highly organized, which allowed me as the reader to absorb the content without being distracted by errors or fragmented ideas.

For instance, the publication references several clear steps for determining the type of questions being asked, identifying key, task, content and limiting words, as well as good examples of each. After developing the checklist for identification and analysis I would expand the supporting document to include the rating scale currently used by UofP. This would provide the ability to quantify the author’s success in terms of elements which are or are not
1. Is there an ethical violation, dilemma or concern and, if so, what is it?
This chapter holds a certain significance because it helps a writer know how to use the basic elements of the English language, in a way that people want to read. King says that vocabulary and word choice is a very important aspect of grammar, and this should be reflective of your style of writing. He makes very clear in this chapter the importance of sentence structure, and word order (King 118-120). King writes:
To read like a writer means knowing in advanced type of writing will be assigned. This is beneficial, Bunn argues, because when reading like a writer, knowing the style assigned, allows one to look for specific techniques in writing that they could adopt in their own work. To understand how piece was written, or to look back on his architect analogy, it is important to ask questions, assessing what “construction” techniques were effective in building a text. Before reading, one should ask himself who the audience is and the author's purpose in writing. While reading the texts itself, Bunn recommends looking at the style of language used and the effectiveness of evidence as well as the parts that don’t work or are confusing. While reading like a writer and asking these questions, Bunn encourages students to look for whether aspects are appropriate and effective as well as the positive or negative effect they have on readers. Bunn, in recognizing that every word choice made in a text has a certain effect, encourages readers to look critically at that effect in order to decide what strategies work should be adopted in their own

Thus, out of fear, closer attention is paid to the organization of the paper, grammar being key to the delivery of content, and overall presentation of the writing. Forever proofing and re-working the draft. Hence, quality is important in any relationship, how we associate, what we say, and how we say it, determining success or failure of the
What principles would you need to be aware of when dealing with the ethical dilemmas in this case study?
I believe it is important to promote literacy. It is important that people know about grammar, without it they would seem dense. I believe that

A piece of writing is much more than just words on a page. Just as a potter carefully molds and carves every detail and shape into a piece of art, so does a writer. Each comma, dash, antecedent, and fragment is picked cautiously. Each grammatical choice brings to pass a different rhetorical effect creating an irreplaceable and unique piece of art filled with fine detail. Rhetorical grammar is the clay of a potter. One must have it to begin and it has a variety of options to choose from. A person’s ability to understand and use grammar is as the technique owned by the craftsmen. Just as clay can be brittle and weak, so can grammar if used incorrectly or not to its best ability. The most amazing work is not made simply by chance but because of
Learning how to effectively grab my audience’s attention is a big task for me to tackle this semester. As previously learned in week one’s archived workshop “The Hallmarks of Effective Writing,” the basic components of what effective writing strives to convey are “awareness of purpose, audience, and form” (Hood, 2012, slide 5). For example, if I am writing a paper for a topic that would be intended for children, I cannot use sophisticated vocabulary that the audience may not understand. If the audience is unable to decipher the vocabulary words in the essay, they are more likely to lose interest in reading the paper. Sentence structure, grammar, and learning how to effectively reach my audience have affected my ability to communicate effectively in the past due to the difficulty involved in maintain proper writing etiquette and keeping the reader’s
Writing a college-level essay can be tricky, especially if there is lack of inspiration or the ideas aren’t organized well enough to articulate into a draft. However, in the case of higher-level education; students are encouraged to stimulate their learning through writing, in order to acquire an analytical and understanding capacity to be successful in college. Coupled with planning, research, and hard work; writing essays for college becomes an easier task in a short time, resulting in the improvement of critical thoughts. In the article, Using Writing to Promote Reading to Learn in College, Hayes Christopher G, states that, “the written text allows both reader and writer to examine thoughts captured in time and recorded in words, thereby encouraging more complex thinking because constraints imposed by memory have been abolished by the written record” (Hayes 4). After all, more than any other invention, writing has transformed the human consciousness. This mastery gives society the ability to improve every day, by enhancing their personalities, considering that having a good use of language and information, will result in achieving great success. In the article: Reconsidering English Teaching for Improving Non-English Majors’ English writing Ability, Yuru Shen declares how, “it is self-evident that grammar plays a very important role in language learning, including English learning” (Shen 74).With this in mind, understanding that college level composition is important will
According to journalist William Zinsser, a writer must be clear in order to write well. A writer who fills his/her pages with pretentious words, flattery prose, or intricate syntax clouds up his/her sentences and prevents the reader from fully understanding the message at hand. Therefore, Zinsser contends that good writing is achieved when bombastic language and confusing words are avoided. Indeed, stripping “every sentence to its cleanest components”, removing excess verbiage, and molding words into coherent, simple structures prevents the reader from getting lost in a whirlwind of words and thus allows him/her to fully grasp the author’s message (Zinsser 6). In short, clarity leads to writing that is done well.
In this assessment you are required to establish guidelines for researching and gathering information and work with your staff to gather and evaluate the data.
In writing it’s important to have an understanding of what you’re trying to convey for your audience in addition to how you you will present your ideas. Effective communication extends beyond having well organized writing expressed in complete and coherent sentences. The style, tone and clarity of writing must also be considered, as they are constantly changing relative to the audience. Again, analyzing one’s audience and purpose is essential to successful writing. Appropriately, when choosing the most effective language, it is important to consider the document objective as well as the reader. In essence, this idea of effective use of language has been the overarching theme of this online English course. Each writing assignment
