The problems of the society always found reflection in the literature works of various authors. While some of them chose to criticize the in a rather subtle and soft way, some poems or literature works offer the readers harsh depiction of the politics in the modern world. Ralf Black writes his poem 21st Century Lecture in the spirit of the time, with simple ideas implied in the complicated imaginary. The author's perception of the world in the poem is built in terms of criticism of how people behave in the modern society and the ways in which they tend to reveal their weaknesses. The poem reflects on the different aspects of modern life including the environmental damaging and resulting problems, the political issue of the wars in our world, and the issues connected to the everyday life, such as the consumerism, bringing up …show more content…
However, while analyzing the poem, it is necessary to start with its title. Ralf Black's choice of the heading for his poem 21st Century Lecture was not accidental. First, the title prepares the readers that the main idea of the poem concerns the modern time and the life of every single person nowadays. Therefore, the author shows the reader that they might also find their own reflection in this literature work. Second, an important aspect was also mentioning the word “lecture” in the title. In the understanding of a usual reader, the lecture is regarded as something that teaches and provides information for consideration. Taking the idea of teaching and educating to the foreground implied in the title, the author wanted to draw our attention to the aim of the poetry. He tunes the reader to be ready to find valuable ideas in the poem, and by calling it a lecture he emphasizes the role of it for every person. Moreover, in such a way, the author might want to show the value of the ideas that he expresses in the

The context of the plot found in “The School” presents the readers with the timeless question of the meaning of life. However, this question does not seem to present itself immediately to the reader. In order to appreciate Barthelme’s work in this piece, it is crucial that one utilizes the New Criticism’s approach to reading. New Criticism was first developed in the 20th century and it makes reading and interpreting literature a systematic activity. Poetry can follow your life all the way through, from the innocence of a child, to the end of your days. The comfort, seduction, education, occasion and hope found in poems are elaborated in Poetry Should Ride the Bus by Ruth Forman. As the poem reads on, you not only travel through the life of a person from adolescence to being elderly through vivid imagery, but also hit on specific genres of poems through the personification of poetry as the characters in the stages of life. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has had as a strategy the development of space exploration. All missions from the most historical to those planned, have been directed under the same institution to enrich the scientific knowledge of the Earth, the solar system and the universe. However, the goals, the accomplishments and errors committed throughout the history of the space, technological advances and experiences in each of the missions, have been making the differences. The Apollo mission is an example of the first attempts to landing on the moon, and the planned Mars mission is an example for traveling to the Red Planet; both were created through NASA, but their goals, historical epoch

This poem takes a simple subject and adds a very interesting perspective to the way we look at it. Even the name is unusual “Introduction to Poetry” it sounds like a chapter in one of our literary books. We get this classroom feeling from the title all the way to the last stanza it sounds like a teacher speaking to another teacher, telling them how their poetry lesson went. This poem takes into account how linear people can be when it comes to poetry usually they don’t care for the detail they just want the meaning of the poem and be done with it. But poetry is meant to be experienced and along the way we may find a meaning to the poet’s words.
I chose this scene because it puts emphasis on the importance of cultural legacy, and how these cultural legacies can either hinder or facilitates us at what we do. These are not innate characteristics. They are legacies of the cultures we are born into, and heavily influence the way we think and behave. Take Klotz for example. His plane is about crash, but he is trapped in his role as a subordinate. His failure to communicate with his captain is not through any fault of his own but of his hierarchical background. He is obligated to be respectful towards his superiors in a way that is not expected of people in America. This scene also helps conveys Gladwell’s idea that we have to go back much further than looking at an example of one person

Connections How this chapter connected with me when it said “all too often student walk away from a lectures feeling like outsiders as to what they just heard, just as many of us feel left hanging after talks we attended” and That it important that author address why should we care about the topic . “. The poems “Introduction to Poetry”, “Poem”, “Poetry Should Ride the Bus”, “How Poetry comes to me”, “How I Discovered Poetry”, and “Making It in Poetry”. These poems express their author’s thoughts on poetry beautifully. Each author gives their own interpretation of what poetry is to them. However, each poem carries small differences and similarities. At the end, each poem has taught its readers a new meaning of poetry.
Modern Times by Paul Johnson gives an overview of the history from the nineteen twenties until the nineteen nineties. He bases his book on the presuppositions of the Judeo-Christian worldview. Johnson is very clear in his belief in the Judeo-Christian worldview as he states it explicitly multiple times throughout his lengthy book. The presuppositions of the Judeo-Christian worldview are: “the Kingdom of God is spiritual, man is prophet, priest, and king under a sovereign God and that there is no institutional interposition between God and man.” This worldview causes him to affirm limited government, free market economics, the rule of law and self-government.

Poetry has a role in society, not only to serve as part of the aesthetics or of the arts. It also gives us a view of what the society is in the context of when it was written and what the author is trying to express through words. The words as a tool in poetry may seem ordinary when used in ordinary circumstance. Yet, these words can hold more emotion and thought, however brief it was presented.

He then tells the kids to rip out the whole introduction, saying that poetry goes well beyond the “technical aspects”.
