Be Proactive, Put first things first, and sharpen the saw are three of seven habits from Sean covey's novel " The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens'', and those three particular habits have made an impact on me. They have made me realize that i do them in my daily life, but also that i need to work on including the into my life. Being proactive is taking responsibility for your life. Doing what you need to do, and making sure it gets done. Personally in my life I keep everything organised, but i also have a tendency to procrastinate which does not help. The habit of being proactive is one that i truly need to work on. creating check lists, and giving myself a time frame to get things done that is how I plan to incorporate this habit …show more content…
Because he is a co. owner of a multi million dollar company that Disney has recently bought called maker studios. In a scene he has gone from rags to riches just by taking a risk and opening a company and starting a YouTube channel. Shay Carl is very much a family man, does what he needs to do to make sure his family gets what they want and need. For example after his company was sold to Disney he said " Remember when we moved from Idaho to Los Angeles to start a YouTube business? Well we sold it to the Walt Disney company." And that proves that he took a leap to help start a company that he did not even know was going to work out and succeeds. He took that leap so that his family could have a better life, and it just so happened that it worked out. Although putting videos on YouTube of your family everyday is a bit strange to anyone else, it is a daily routine for Shay Carl. In an interview he has said that he spends between four to six hours editing and uploading footage everyday, he has also said that " i call it the "7-ings of YouTube: capturing, editing, uploading, processing, rendering, annotating, and facebooking. But that is his job and he loves it because he get to be with his family more than most people
The first habit is Be Proactive, that means for you take responsibility for your life. What that means is for you to go out there and be like I did it and it was my fault . Most people like to blame things on others so they do not look stooped or dumb . That is not true it makes you reliable and trustworthy . when you are trusted you can have a you can add to someone's RBA which means Relationship Bank Account and you can all more to that by being a friend or being nice. Another thing is that being reactive and proactive. Being proactive means to not react in a bad manner . An example is like your mom comes in your room and says that you need to clean your room. If you are proactive you will be like ok i will clean my room no problem. If you reactivate you will active like why do I have to do that and that is no far.
The second habit, “Beginning with the End in Mind,” was by far the most inspiring and meaningful habit of all. This chapter began by telling me to imagine my funeral and to imagine the significant people in my life in attendance and what they would say about me. While the text portrayed a morbid scene, the visualization exercise was extremely powerful. The exercise made me think about what I want people to remember me for, what accomplishments I want to have completed, and what kind of impact I want to have on the people around me. While thinking about what I want to have completed during the course of my life, I then began to question whether or not the things I am doing today are helping me to reach my
Habit 3 : Put First Things First. The habit of personal management. First Things are those things you find most worth doing according to your personal vision of your mission. We use these priorities to manage our time and events so that every day we are sure to keep these first things first in our lives. A key concept related to this habit is "Quadrant II Planning." The diagram at the end of this section is what Covey calls a "Time Management Matrix." The top of the matrix divides the blocks into things that are Urgent, and Not urgent, and the left side divides the matrix into Important and Not important. Here is a summary of the quadrants.
In the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, the reader is led through habits that Covey has linked to the internal and external success of individuals. These habits are split into categories that describe the shift from dependence, independence, interdependence, then to maintenance and improvements. The first stage to become an effective person involves proactivity, starting with an end point, and putting first things first. The second part that involves working with others focused on a win/win outcome, understanding someone before trying to be understood, and synergizing. The last habit, sharpening the saw, is a continuous process of learning and reflecting to become the best version of yourself. I found the
The 7 Habits can be easily applied to a lot of the ideas from the text book and also to many aspects in life, not just business related
(Covey, 1990) Habit 1, being proactive is the key to all the other habits. Being proactive is to take a positive, responsible approach to life. This is accomplished by writing your own mission statement, developing a personal vision, and choosing your responses to life rather than reacting to what happens to you. Habit 2, begin with the end in mind refers to developing a clear picture in your mind of how you want to “measure up” at the end of your life. You develop a plan for your life and use this plan as a reference for decision making and guiding choices you make. Habit 3, put first things first focuses on time management. It reminds us of the value of long range planning instead of being a task manager. What we do on a daily basis needs to be aligned to what we determine as our goals for the future. We accomplish this by making the unimportant not urgent and by not letting the important become so urgent it is impossible to accomplish according to the plan/goals we have identified. These are the habits that allow us to choose our response to stimuli we receive. These are the three habits that lay the groundwork to accomplish the rest of the habits known as the “public victory” habits.
It will help deal with many questions concerning time management, which is a key issue if you want to be successful in the future. Using the process stated in Covey’s text, developing each stage from habit 1 through 3, I will be able to set a logical path both mental and physical that will assist in my everyday activities towards achieving the goals I set for myself. Being a proactive person that thinks in terms of “I will do” rather than simply “I can do.” Maintaining a positive ‘can-do’ attitude helps me with my decision making during life in and out of work. This culmination of habits as described by Covey will be useful in shaping my career and how I approach each day. By combining a proactive attitude with a plan for success and a prioritization mentality I will continue to add value within my
The seven habits are: 1. Be proactive 2. Begin with the end in mind 3. Put first things first 4. Think win-win 5. First understand, then be understood 6.
The book “The 7 habits of highly effective people” by Stephen R. Covey impressed me many ways. They were very easy to understand and Stephan’s principles can be used in our everyday lives. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” Learning habits to change us, is a very painful process and need to have a higher purpose to motivate ourselves. However, if we put our effort to change our habits, we will see immediate benefits. We are what we are because of choices we make and habits we learn throughout our lives. This book effectively tells us what we need to do in order to become an effective person. Stephan discusses seven important habits habits, because changes must happen within us. Seven habits are that we must be proactive, we need to begin with the end in mind, we need to put first things first, we need to think win-win, we need to seek to understand and to be understood, we need to learn how to synergize and we must sharpen the saw.
Covey breaks these seven habits down into three parts, private victory, public victory, and renewal. Being proactive is the first habit discussed of these seven habits. A clear distinction is made between a person who is reactive and a person who is proactive. A reactive person does not take responsibility for their actions, rather they preoccupy themselves with situations they have limited control over (Pettit, 2006). However, a proactive person takes responsibility for their actions. People who respond proactively
The first habit talks about being proactive; being proactive is the foundation of the entire seven habits paradigm. In a sense, all the other habits are types of being proactive. This entails a realization that you are a person who
The book “ The 7 habits of highly affective teens” is A book that teaches you important life lessons. This book teaches you to handle problems in a more responsible manner. Sean Covey portrays this through seven different habits. This teaches us wise choice making and being “highly effective teens”. I would recommend this book to however wants to learn more about them selves and how to be a better teen. If you were to assign this book to A student who does not want to learn then the student will not learn from this.
I use proactiveness in my life is by “ thinking before answering a problem, like math.” Being proactive in your life helps to get through tough times easier since you learn to take ownership of your problems. Personally, I solve my own problems and ask nobody for help if I can handle it. Additionally, proactive people behave well in settings such as work, school, and community.
Do you know about the 7 habits?Have your thought about your future? In sean covey’s book the 7 habits of highly effective teens. There are three main skills every teenager needs to know to become more successful. With the three main ones that you will learn by reading this.
Be Proactive, the book explained that this habit is the basis of every other habit and it is the corner stone of success. This first habit is a combination of “take action” and “be responsible”. It means that every person must be in control for his/her life and because the greatest influence that every human receives if from within their self. Begin with an end in mind, this phrase could be rephrase into “visualize where you want to go”, Covey said that everything that if each person wants to accomplish something they plan out everything first. First things first, this habit deals with setting priorities. Realizing what values and goals are most important to a person. This habit helps a person to manage his/her time efficiently, putting things in order from what the most important to the least. Think win-win, this habit states that a person’s decision must be based on a “win-win” scale. Meaning every person involved would get something in return. Not in a “win-lose” scale, a person win while the others lost. Many people grew up with this kind of mindset, also the beaten down mind set which is “I give up, do whatever you want to me”. Seek first to understand, then be understood, this habit states that before helping others or influencing them, one must understand the situation that they are in. This is not just to listen passively but to listen actively and empathically. Meaning, “imagine if
