7 Surprising Benefits of Exercise
TIME Magazine
80.2 million Americans over the age of 6 are inactive and not even a fourth of the country participates in the suggested 150 minutes of strength and cardiovascular physical activity per week. America is unmotivated and simply uneducated when it comes to exercise and its benefits. For some people the fact that exercise is good for your heart just doesn’t cut it, but can we blame them? They don’t understand all the “perks” that come from exercise!
Exercise was basically defined as a cure in the article. It assists us not only with physical health but also mental and emotional health, it improves your skin, slows down aging, burns fat, and even decreases recovery time from an illness. Reading this
A lot of americans should be active because it helps them to be more healthier and stronger.
The publics idea of health has evolved over the decades, similar to fashion in that it is continuously morphing and even trends have resurrected with new twists. Recent developments have seen widespread awareness of the importance of regular exercise and many benefits of a balanced diet. Yet despite the plethora of health and fitness methods and resources, the general population has never been so physically sedentary and out of shape. According to the national center for health statistics, America life expectancy has declined despite advances in the fitness industry, concerns over secondary conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes has created an urgency of public health officials as they try to mandate new strategies to fight this national epidemic.
Nowadays, we have so many types of video games and movies that we don't tend to go out as much to do physical activities. Many of us have forgotten about bike riding, hiking, swimming, or simply going to the park. Not many people engage in excising and this is one of the reasons as to why our health rates in America are so poor. According to Livestrong.com, " Even if [we] are at a healthy weight, cardiorespiratory fitness is crucial to your overall health. Researchers at the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas, Texas examined the effect of cardio fitness on all-cause mortality...the study found that lean men with low cardio fitness were twice as likely to die from all causes than lean, cardio-fit men." This only proves the fact on how much cardiovascular exercise makes an impact in our life. It literally is a life or death
The American public has long held outstanding notoriety for its love of shortcut methods when it comes to improving health, and honestly it’s hard to blame them. Gym memberships are hard to maintain when you aren’t a trained athlete, it is hard to justify a thirty dollar a month fee for a gym when schedules can inhibit a consistent attendance. Half an hour to get to the gym, an hour to workout, home again, in a society that is forever in a shadow of the clock, it hurts to think about. As such many people take to the streets and neighborhoods, nothing is better for the mind and body than spending time outdoors and exercising, whether it be biking the major sidewalks, running the not so often travelled trails, or taking an hour or two at the
“To enjoy the glow of good health, you must exercise”- Gene Tunney. In this society, which we live in, this population lacks health. According to the CIA’s list of obese countries in the world, America ranks 18. Our population is 35% obese, which is very big compared to the rest of the world. Today I see this fat world, and we can change it. The youth of America is our future. If you want a free fulfilled future it is important to build your fitness.
Imagine enjoying a post-workout high and looking forward to working out every day. You could become one of the fitness buffs and svelte figures that you see at the gym. Instead of worrying about how your body looks, you could be confident in whatever shorts, swimsuit or dress you want to wear. If you want to reach a higher level of fitness, Exercise Made Easy can help you to attain that dream.
The benefits of being physically fit involve reducing cancers, diseases, several disorders, and even preventing genetic disorders because the body is consistently gaining the right amount of nutrition to fight against any deadly viruses and conditions that could worsen the body compared to a couch potato and individuals who do not devote a particular time period to enough movement and exercise. According to Kari Hartel, RD, LD in the Fit day article, "What's more alarming is that more and more research is finding that the detrimental effects that prolonged leisure time has on your body can't be "canceled out" by exercising, even if you do vigorous exercise such as running or cycling. This means you can't justify spending hours stretched out
I have chosen to discuss an article entitled “Is exercise actually medicine.” Since the topic for the week is unique benefits of physical activities, but does not limit us to just discussing exercise, I feel that it is important to discuss that physical exercise can be used as a medication, similar to a daily regimen of Tylenol or Aspirin. All forms of exercises can be uniquely beneficial, I did not want to limit myself to one exercise topic. We are a society that has evolved into sedimentary lifestyles and this thought that exercise can be used as a medication is a unique concept. Let me start with an explanation of what exercise is, how it may help us to gain control of our bodies and finally attempt to convince the reader that many medical
Most people complain of insufficient time for exercise. Some also blame their inability to exercise on the high rates set by gyms. Others say they lack company while for some it's the lack of space. I do not know about you all I know is that it's time for every person to lead a healthy lifestyle. Exercise included!
Physical inactivity is the first cause of heart disease. The recommended exercise per week is 150 minutes, but many do not even do half of that. Often time’s people purchase a membership to a gym so they can exercise; however, the gyms are always empty. The same goes for public parks; most of the time they are always empty or only have a couple of people. It is said that, people with gym memberships stop going after five months, and that most people do not go because laziness takes over the body and mind. In the American society, citizens have become very indolent when it comes to exercising and maintaining their correct weight and proper BMI (Body Mass Index). Physical inactivity develops into heart disease when the heart is not being “worked
Globally, about one in three people get little physical activity in on a regular day. Even at work, at home, and as they travel from place to place. In 1950, 30 percent of Americans worked in high-activity occupations and by 2000 that proportion had dropped to only 22 percent (“Physical Activity”). Conversely, the percentage of people working in low-activity occupations rose from about 23 percent to 41 percent. Also, since technology is advancing people worldwide are doing less of it. Physical activity levels are declining because people have video games, cell phones, television to keep them busy. People couldn 't shop online and receive their package on their doorstep, and now people can. This is something people use to do on a regular basis (“Obesity and Exercise”). Children and young adults lack exercise because the are inside playing video games or watching television. Video games are advancing that kids do not even think about stepping out of their room. Parents sometimes encourage that by bringing them food to their room and not motivating them to play outside. About 40 percent of U.S. schoolchildren walked or rode their bikes to school in 1969. By 2001, only 13 percent did so ("Physical Activity."). Some people do not have a membership to a gym because they do want to be judged and do not have the confidence or motivation to go. Being overweight can be reduced with help, eating healthy and exercise.
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen of the Alpine School District Board of Education, we have a problem. The students of this day and age have unhealthy postural and backpack usage habits that, if left alone, will lead to chronic pain throughout life and improper alignment of the body, which can cause many other medical issues. It is not right to allow this upcoming generation to suffer, when there are highly feasible (and effective) solutions that we can implement.
Many barriers have been identified which attribute to why people do not exercise regularly to obtain and maintain health benefits [35, 36]. Commitment towards family, work pressure, and time have been rated as common barriers people face to be physically active [8]. Recent advances in technology have resulted in an increases in time spent sedentarily, especially at work [37], but also in leisure time [38, 39]. In addition, long hours of work is specifically a barrier for adults as they are mentally exhausted and do not feel like exercising [40]. Specifically for older adults, fear of getting injured from physical activity and self-efficacy restricts them from being sufficiently physically active to observe optimal health benefits [40]. In addition to these, weather conditions, lack of transportation, poor facility,
During this semester, we explored many health issues and topics that involve our local community. Out of all the topics, we have learned during this semester the one topic that interests me the most was physical fitness. Since learning about physical fitness, I have a better understanding of the importance of staying active and how it benefits your body and mind. From the video “23 and ½ hours: What is the single best thing we can do for our health?” Dr. Mike Evans explains how exercising for 30 minutes a day, just by walking, can lower your risk of developing cardiovascular disease, obesity, and diabetes (Evans,2011). Also, from the reading “ Health Benefits of Physical Activity,” according to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans,
Out of three kids only one is physically active every day. The reason that the kids are falling away from everyday activity is because the adults are doing the same. The percentage of adults who participate in only thirty minutes of physical activity every day is below five percent. Out of every three adults, only one receives the amount of exercise recommended per week. Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the amount of people in America that are not achieving the suggested levels of physical activity are sixty percent. Having this many adults and kids inactive is dangerous and needs to stop now. Roughly eighty million people is far too many to be inactive and if we continue to go the rout that the people of this country are going then the numbers say that by year two thousand and thirty at least half of the adults of America will be obese. That is an astounding number to process because what that is saying is that if we continue to live the way we do than half of Americans will be obese in thirteen years. If we as human’s care about individual health, then these numbers should be enough to motivate anyone to find the time to partake in exercise.
