Significance
September 11, 2001 was a devastating day for the United States (US) and countries that had passengers on the airliners that were involved in the terrorist attack. This triggered the US military to be deployed to Afghanistan to fight the Global War on Terror in an effort to eradicate terrorist organizations, such as the Taliban, Al-Qaeda (AQ), and the Haqqani Network (HQN). Since 2001, there has been success of driving the Taliban from power and the death of Osama Bin Laden; however, the US military has lost over two thousand US Soldiers (Buchanan, 2014). Despite the success the US helped provide, the result is that it started to become a concern on how the elite Afghan Soldiers are heavily reliant on the American presence within the country (Mazzetti, 2015). US forces have the collection and airlift capabilities to suppress terrorist organizations within Afghanistan, whereas the Afghan military lacks sufficient training and equipment to possess these capabilities.

The impact will cause the locals to turn to the terrorist groups either out of fear, or they will see the terrorists’ ideology. In the distant future, after the locals are embedded within the terrorist organizations with involvement of terrorist activities or support, all it will take is some years of planning and training internally. They will have and utilize the knowledge they received while US troops were fighting the terrorists, and carry out a more damaging attack on the US, similar to the September 11th attacks. These effects will need to be taken into consideration, with looking back at the support that was provided back when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan back in 1979, and where the Global War on Terror is at today (Annonymous,
The morning was like every other, people woke up got ready for work, sent their kids to school and some were even still sleeping in bed. The news was on giving updates on the weather, famous people, and even regular TV shows were going. 92 people were boarded and taking off on the American Airlines Flight 11, a Boeing 767 around 7:59 am September 11, 2001. Everything seemed normal nothing to worry about, but then everything changed and almost at the same time too. Flipping through the channels you could see it on every channel. A tragedy was happening, a plane had crashed into one of the trade center towers.
As blood trickled down the flight attendant’s neck, the screams of passengers echoed while hoping and praying that it was not their time to perish. A dark-skinned man headed towards the front of the plane, claiming the pilot as his next victim. As this occurred within the four other planes, hostages aboard knew they were living the last few moments of their life. Each tear and scream would ultimately be their last-their last breath taken as the plane crashed into a building of peace, dying with the thought of “I should have said goodbye,” as their lives were taken away in seconds by strangers. Thousands of innocent lives were lost, as well as the hearts of millions of others worldwide who felt the repercussion and heartbreak of these terrorist attacks. The Tuesday morning of September 11, 2001, swept worldwide panic and sorrow, naming itself the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil to date. Nineteen terrorists, four planes, and millions of hearts broken later, the world was now split into the ‘before’ and ‘after’ of 9/11, impacting our environment tremendously both physically and psychologically.
The reporter stated the children told their father they don’t know the last time they took a bath and whenever she bathed them the bath water was completely dirty. The reporter stated the children are underweight even though their mother receives food stamps. According to the reporter, all three children had sores around their mouths, in their heads, on their backs and buttocks, and on their arms and legs. Ms. Ballard stated she called to ask Brittany it was. The reporter stated Ms. Smith told her she did not know and had not seen anything on the children. Ms. Ballard stated she and the children’s father took them to be seen at a hospital on 07/05/15 and the children were diagnosed with Infantago. The reporter stated she later called Ms. Smith back to ask her for the boy’s insurance card in order to take them to see a doctor and pick up their prescriptions but she refused and did not give it to Mr.
MCO called into dispatch claiming she had a 9-2 then called back stating she made a mistake she meant to say 9-11.
It was a day like any other, until Surai hears a piercing screech that slowly fades away. “Hey, did you guys hear that?” says Surai. “Yeah it sounded like a scream” replies Tooler. “I wonder who it was?” questions Mickey. All of them rush to the edge and discover nothing. They all say their goodnights and return to our rooms. They all go to sleep wondering who made that noise. The next day we wake up and find a load of people crowded on the deck. “It’s chaos” Surai says. Tooler goes up and asks Schmedrick what’s wrong. “Schmandon has gone missing, and a bunch of people thought they heard a scream last night” replies Schmedrick. Surai, Mickey, and Tooler then realize that it was Schmandon who made the scream last night. “I think that Schmandon
On 10-9-17- at 11:00 am the reporter was driving by when a twelve boy was aiming and holding a black (22 or 32 automatic handgun) on the corner of a busy street. The child was pointing it all everybody that passes by. The child runs around the neighborhood pointing the gun. There are others children played outside in the neighborhood. The sister went into the home to get the mother. The sister came right back outside and stated that: "Her mother is not at home. She will tell her that you stop by." The reporter stated that: "Do you know it dangerous
The War in Afghanistan has been an all consuming conflict for the US government since we started to launch air strikes on October 7, 2001. This is a conflict that’s been brewing since before the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. This war has the continuation of past conflicts in it, conflicts that can be connected a good deal to the interference of other large powers, such as the USSR. From keeping an eye on the oil reserves, pressuring Iran, and keeping Pakistan stable, our interests and motives for occupying Afghanistan are undeniably laced with many ulterior motives, providing us with the issue of unfavorable opinion and our interests being the source of terrorist attacks. Afghanistan is a country that has been plagued with
A total of 19 men hijacked four planes, using them to attack our military and economic centers and to murder almost 3,000 innocent people including men, women and children (Address on the War in Afghanistan. 1). The perpetrators were a part of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda, an organization that we have been using force against, along with those who harbor them, since 2001, days after the 9/11 attacks (Address on the War in Afghanistan. 1). With the support of our allies, NATO and the United Nations, we sent troops into Afghanistan after the Taliban denied turning Osama bin Laden over, the leader of al-Qaeda, and in the matter of months, al-Qaeda’s members scattered and many were killed (Address on the War in Afghanistan. 1). What’s next? President Obama addressed this in his speech on the War in Afghanistan, saying 30,000 additional troops will be sent to Afghanistan for the next 18 months, and after 18 months, our troops will begin to come home. (Address on the War in Afghanistan. 2) Obama’s strategy is: “We must deny al Qaeda a safe haven. We must reverse the Taliban's momentum and deny it the ability to overthrow the government. And we must strengthen the capacity of Afghanistan's security forces and government so that they can take lead responsibility for Afghanistan's future.” (Address on the War in Afghanistan. 3.) Once the United States military has aided security forces in becoming more powerfully built, many other things would fall into place.
Describe the challenges faced by US Customs and Border Protection agents attempting to secure the border. Be sure to include: What is the functional equivalent of the border? What is the Fourth amendment exception as it pertains to border searches? How is seizure statistics used to justify the mission of border security?
Families have fathers and sons fighting in the war in Afghanistan. We as a country were determined to fight back against the terrorists and some people might not have agreed with that. We now have soldiers in afghanistan fighting and dying and we are dropping bombs on towns with innocent people in them. We are starting to look like the terrorists. Osama bin laden has been killed so what are we still fighting against. On June 3rd 2015 Adam Taylor from Washington post wrote an article that states, “War has directly resulted in the deaths of 149,000 people in Afghanistan and Pakistan between 2001 and 2014, according to estimates in a new report released by Costs of War project at Brown University’s Watson Institute. That figure includes U.S. military members, contractors, and opposition fighters as well as at least 26,270 civilians in Afghanistan, and 21,500 in Pakistan.” This shows how many people are still dying in the war. The lives of many United States loved ones have been lost in that war which has affected us
The events of September 11, 2001 will have forever changed the American military. The campaign to follow would have the US Military fighting forces in two completely different environments. In Iraq, the battles would be primarily fought in a close-quarters urban environment. The Afghanistan Campaign, formally named Operation Enduring Freedom, would be fought in a drastically different environment. Both campaigns would be fought against an insurgent force as opposed to a uniformed army the United States military was accustomed to in previous wars. The Afghanistan theater of operation would present an enemy in an unforgiving terrain and a significantly long history of war fighting. This new enemy combined with
September 11, 2001, millions of New Yorkers and American citizens woke up and started their day, unprepared and unaware for the catastrophic attack that would be taking place in just a few short hours. At 8:46 a.m., Eastern Standard Time, Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. The impact killed all of the passengers and crew as well as hundreds inside the building. At 9:03 a.m., a second plane, Flight 175, crashed into the corner of the South Tower killing passenger, crew, and workers who worked on floors seventy-five to eighty-three. Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. killing approximately 185 individuals (History.com Staff). Because of the damaged to the support system, fires, and impact at extremely fast speed, the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. (Lipton and Glanz). Having heard about the acts of terrorism that had just taken place in New York and Washington, D.C., a group of passengers drove their plane, Flight 93, into a Pennsylvania field killing everyone on board but possibly saving hundreds of other lives in the process. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. 102 minutes after being struck (History.com Staff). On September 11, 2001, almost twelve hundred people were wounded or killed by “coordinated suicide attempts” by Al Qaeda terrorists. In result to the four airplanes being hijacked and used for premediated reasons, the United States government instituted new regulations for entering the country and airport security as well as expounded on systems already in place.
The policy makers in the United States became more focused on the IVTS following the 9/11 terrorist attack as they believed that terrorists must have been using that mode of funds transfer to send money for their activities. All IVTS were required to keep records of transactions including the details of the customers who transfer funds through them (Watterson, 2013). The United States AML regime requires business organizations such as casinos and those dealing with precious stones and metals to check identities of their customers keep proper records of their customers and check whether the names of the customers appear in the lists of terror suspects (Levi & Reuter, 2006).
In an age when mankind has the ability to completely annihilate itself through nuclear combat, war can be a more terrifying and powerful thought than ever before. Unfortunately, because of the extent of the actions that the Taliban has committed against both America and its own followers, the United States’ war against terrorism seems to be a necessity. I do feel, however, as if there are many things that can be done by the American government in the near future to peacefully approach a more civil and politically involved Afghanistan. Although my feelings on a war against terrorism are mixed, I do feel that significant actions must be taken in order to restrict the spread of
When the September 11, 2001 attacks occurred the United States responded in a manner which was seen as a traditional reaction to such an attack; it used its overwhelming superior military to invade the nation of Afghanistan. As Afghanistan was the operating base of the terrorist group responsible for the attacks, Al Qaeda, the invasion all but destroyed the group's operating capacity. But in response to the United States' apparent victory the terrorists have re-organized themselves into a looser confederation and turned to alternative methods of finance and operation. One could say that the success of the American military's answer to the September 11th attacks have created a new environment in which terrorists currently operate. This includes the use of the internet, unconventional alliances with international criminal organizations, as well the inception of the "lone wolf" terrorist. Faced with these new type of threats, the United States and its allies must find a way to identify and deal with them.
