A Career As A Family Nurse Practitioner

Unfortunately I have no related work experience in a heathcare office or facility; however, I hope to start working in a heathcare office or facility within the next 2 years. 2 years from now the career goal that I have set for myself is to be graduating as a Licensed Pratical Nurse (LPN). After graduation I would like to start working in at a hospital as a licensed pratical nurse while also continuing my education with nursing.

I am writing to express my interest in admittance to the South University Family Nurse Practitioner program for fall of 2016. This program came highly recommended to me by a professional colleague who is currently precepting students enrolled in this program. I have been a registered nurse for eleven years and have recently received my bachelor’s degree in nursing from Daytona State College _______. I have earned an extensive amount of experience in several different fields of nursing such as, emergency medicine, intensive care, pediatrics, woman’s health, and mental health. I am eager to incorporate my experience into a practitioner role of diagnosing and disease process.

Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP) are nurses who have acquired a higher level of education after Nursing. FNP are trained to treat, prescribe, and to provide quality healthcare needs for patients. The role of a FNP varies according to their realm of practice and state requirements. The amount of service that they can provide depends on the freedom of practice the state gives the FNP. Each state has various boundaries set for NPs to practice their field of healthcare. Highly organized, self-motivated baccalaureate prepared Registered Nurse with a strong science background driven towards Advance Practice in the Role of a Family Nurse Practitioner.

After graduation these newly graduated family nurse practitioners seeks licensure to begin their practice from the state they intend to practice in. “The State Boards of Nursing regulate nurse practitioners and each state has its own licensing and certification criteria”, so depending on the state further certification may be required. The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nurses Credentialing Center are two credentialing bodies that offer further certifications. Family nurse practitioners graduate with Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and a Master of Science in Nursing degree. At this point it is time for the newly licensed and certified FNP to seek employment (Remedy Health Media, 2001).

Prior to this assignment, I had very little insight to what gatekeeping, state certificate of need programs, and Medicare PPS meant and how they affected lowering health care costs and spending. Thank you for sharing your perceptions and opinions on the regulations that’s were established within each of these laws. As a nurse who worked in a hospital, I remember having monthly educational meetings regarding length of stay, reimbursement and health care costs and spending. At that time, I felt the information seemed tedious and irrelevant to my role as a registered nurse. My dream job would be a psychiatric nurse practitioner . I’ve always wanted to help people in need of anything. I help people with advice and other things. I just love people period. Since I was 6 or 7, I saw my parents struggling to even get me and my brother a house. I really wanted to help them out but I really couldn’t. So my whole life I’ve always wanted to help people with everything. I feel like I’m very genuine and curious and honest with everyone and those are the character traits I need to be a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Although there are a lot of colleges that will take any student, I want a college that’ll take only a few students. The best of the best. I would love to go to a New York College.

To be a nurse practitioner, an RN needs such as a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). The current minimum education required as a Nurse Practitioner is an MSN degree, which takes 3-4 years to complete, depending on your specialty. I have always wanted to be a nurse: I do not think there is any task that is as satisfying as treating a patient physically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. I first pursued my LPN, and immediately I knew I had chosen the right career path. Every day, no matter how tired and weary I felt at the end of the day, I was invigorated by the sense that I had made a positive change in the lives of my patients. To build upon my capabilities to help others, I then pursued my RN. I am currently in an RN-BSN program and hope to begin a graduate program subsequently to become a family nurse practitioner.

Since the start of my nursing career, I made the decision early on to get a few years of Registered Nurse (RN) experience and then continue on the further my education to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. My first job after graduating with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN), I worked in Pennsylvania as an oncology and hospice RN in a small rural hospital. After gaining one years’ experience, I decided to further my career by starting a career as a travel RN and simultaneously I enrolled at Chamberlain College of Nursing in the FNP program. It is clear that Family Nursing Practitioner Program is increasingly becoming valuable for nurses competing for the best job positions. Pursuing a FNP program can open many doors to students in the field of nursing as well as nursing administrators. Additionally it can result into higher salaries throughout the entire career of an individual.

Ever since I began nursing school in 2012 at the University of Texas At El Paso Texas, I dreamt of furthering my education to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. During my clinical rotations I received many exposures that showed me insight into the invaluable job Nurse Practitioners offered to their patients. Through my own personal experience having received care by nurse Practitioners has left me no doubt about my desire to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.

My journey in becoming a Family Health Nurse (FHN) has been a smooth transition from providing patient centered care. Throughout my clinical practicum, families are typically present at the bedside, and should be cared for in a similar way as a part of patient care such as addressing concerns, problem solving, and collaborating with families in order to provide exceptional care. Furthermore, as I am part of a nursing resource team at a teaching hospital, many units I am assigned to such as oncology, there is an expectation to provide family centered care as an entry to practice nurse.
