“A Good Man Is Hard To Find” Flannery O’Connor - 1963 “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” was written by Flannery O’Connor in 1963. The story questions readers about what is good and evil, by judging the appearances, that a selfish person would make of anybody, for who they are due to how they present themselves. The assumptions made could appear as good or bad intentions that lead to a variety of certain consequences, only to find, in the end, one's true self. Sabriya indicates that “grandma's way of speaking and how she dresses is considered a lady” (1 Maing-Alston). Before the mother leaves to join the men with her daughter to go with her son and husband, she accepts her faith and thanks the men, knowing she is going to die. After the grandma was the last family member, she offered the misfit some money, and the misfit replied “There never was a body that gave the undertaker a tip”, basically saying she died either way. Just like Sabriya's input on grandma, “puts her pride aside and begs” the only thing that matters to her is that she is the only one alive, “she tries to save her own life (1 Sabriya). Sabrigy also mentions how Grandma never pleads for the family, not even the children. Then the Misfit insults the lady by saying “Jesus was the only One that ever raised the dead”. Grandma before she dies proceeds to call the Misfit her son. “Why you are one of my babies. You're one of my own children!” (10-11 O’Connor). This could mean that she has lost her mind because the Misfit is wearing her dead son's shirt from earlier, misinterpreting her thinking it's her son, or
