A hero is one of many people. From firefighters to comic superheros, heros can be anything of anyone’s imagination. For instance such as Johnny from the outsiders, he was just a typical average teenager until he saved thouse kids. That is being a hero, taking action when it’s needed.

As Joseph Campbell once said, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life for something bigger than oneself”. Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela, and the passengers of Flight 93 all stood up for a cause and proved how they deserved to be called heroes. They put themselves in situations where their life wasn’t guaranteed protected to ensure the safety of others. Heroes are not always the ones wearing capes flying through the air, but sometimes the ones who are admirable, intelligent, and altruistic enough to make a change in the world.

As of today police officers are under constant scrutiny because of the way some officers might handle a situation under a moment of distress. Furthermore, because of one officer the public assumes that every officer acts this way when in fact they do not. To sum it all up a police officer once told me that people do not hate you the individual they hate the badge. This hate can grow from a simple ticket and individual gets for speeding. Nonetheless, officers must remain calm, respectful, and willing to put their lives on the life in the face of those who hate them. They do this every day and they take pride in the fact they get to save lives.

There is more to being a hero than just saving lives. A hero can be defined as someone who is courageous and admired for brave acts. Christopher McCandless sets out on a journey across North America to find himself and escape from the cookie cutter schedule that the average person goes through day after day.

I understand police officers everywhere have their own lives on the line, every time they suit up to protect and enforce the law amongst the population. I do appreciate the risk they do to keep us safe from absolute

Heroes are people who help others when they are not doing well or when they are in need. Heroes help people who achieve tasks an average person does not achieve. The hero Rob O'Neill is someone many people don't know about, but Rob O’Neill is the person who shot and killed Osama bin Laden.

Most police officers are just trying to protect and serve — they would never consider discriminating against another person due to their race, and they try to responsibly deescalate situations whenever possible instead of resorting to violence. However, there are problems endemic to law enforcement culture, and many institutionalized problems that affect the work police do. No matter how good a police officer tries to be, it’s hard to make the world a better place while working from within an imperfect system. Law enforcement is something society will always need, and we are grateful to those who protect and serve, but the current system has issues it needs to address.

There is nothing more honorable than an individual choosing to serve his community and his country as a law enforcement officer. With some margin of error they are a very respectable and hardworking people, but in their line of work there are challenges that most people will never have to face. The most obvious being the heightened amount of responsibility and the burden of maintaining a good public image along with the inherent dangers of working in the profession. The stress placed on these men and women builds up and in many of them they begin to develop problems at home and problems with themselves. Some are as innocent as high blood pressure while others can be as serious as insomnia, increase in suicidal thoughts or actions, post-traumatic stress disorder, and heart diseases to name a few. Not only are officers lives threatened while on duty, negative mental and physical strain can develop into serious problems for the officers that affects them wherever they are in their day to day life. A study done shows that 72% of female officers and 43% of male officers had health problems related to the stressful work environment that police officers are subject to. They are exposed to death and human suffering and any person would find that difficult to bear. We at home are not helping matters either as we treat them how we treat most all people who have hit a mental crisis point, we skirt the topic and instead of treating them and helping them we tell them to just get over it

What “problem” officers are is officers who either have a record of being abusive or have many records of complaints from the public. These type of officers should be receiving special monitoring, training, and counseling in order to prevent that they will not be involved in any other future incident of misconduct and brutality. Many people disagree on whether or not officers should be given that “second chance” because of their crimes. This is a debate going on for officers who have used unnecessary violence against people and people are wondering if they should be getting any special treatments. Some believe that they shouldn’t be working for the government anymore because it is not fair for them to commit a crime and not have a harsh punishment.

I believe that Law Enforcement Officers often have to make some tough decisions. Some of these decisions can determine whether someone goes free or spends the rest of their life behind bars, and maybe even life and death. There are times when an officer must choose to do the right thing or the option that doesn't lose them their job. I agree that there is also a lot of pressure on officers today on how they are perceived by the public and the decisions they make effect how are perceived. While a lot of people see them as people who are just trying to punish us, there are a lot of people who respect officers. I don't think people should judge Law Enforcement Officers based on the actions of some bad cops. So the ethical decisions that officers

First of all a big “Thank You” to the cops who work day and night for the safety of the people and the society. The work cop do for the people is highly praise- worthy. Today we can walk and do legal things without fear because of cops who make it possible for us. But there are some people who doesn’t see this and instead tell others about the danger of cops. Yes, there are some bad cops out there who had intentionally or unintentionally taken wrong decisions and had harmed the reputation of the police department. This doesn’t mean every cops are the same.

No matter where law enforcement officers are they should maintain their professionalism. For instance, it does not make a good impression on the public if an officer is off duty and out with his buddies at a bar getting drunk and belligerent. If other patrons know he?s a police officer, it damages his reputation and public image as well as the department he works for. Police should also always be careful of what they say. You never know who could be listening. Perhaps a co-worker?s wife stopped in at the department store for something and another officer made crude comments that were over- heard by the wife. Not only is an incident like that downright rude and unprofessional, it could also be interpreted as harassment. Police officers must realize that they are expected by the community to maintain a level of integrity that others are not held to. This off-duty behavior could be misread as the officer being insincere about his job when on duty.
