What makes a great song? Is it the words or the verses? Is it how every line is beautifully rhymed? Is it how a song is wonderfully metaphorical? Is it the singer itself? It could be all that was mentioned, honestly. But not all songs have words and verses. Think about the classical songs we have - Bach, Mozart, Beethoven; not a single word can be heard from their composition but they're great. Think about the songs that are not rhymed at each line or not rhymed at all; but each word is perfectly laid in breathtaking musical pieces - and they're great. Not all songs are metaphorical. Some lyricists prefer being literal than figurative - which results to a song easier to comprehend for those who aren't familiar with deeper meanings behind
Most of the time, when we listen to a song, we don’t listen to the words, or what message they are trying to give us. Each song out there has a message in the lyrics somewhere. For this assignment, we were to analyze a song and the lyrics and find the thesis of that song. With thesis, I mean what the message within the song is trying to tell us. The song “I hope you dance” by Lee Ann Womack has a good thesis in some ways, but the thesis could also be argumentative also.
Hozier’s 2015 song “Work Song” suggests that true love comes from hard work, devotion, and sense of faith. The author creates a story that illustrates how someone who is miserable and at his lowest point, can find love and finally have a greater purpose. Hozier’s song encourages his listeners by showing them that true love can make someone strive to be better. As the song progresses, rhythm, the juxtaposition an image, and careful diction convey that above all, love is the root of happiness, but it is not achieved without laborious work.
The Perils of Indifference is a speech by Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor. He gives this speech at President Bill Clinton’s Millennium Lecture, fifty-four years after the Americans liberated Wiesel. He talks about his feelings towards an indifference, and explains why no one should ever be indifferent. In his speech, The Perils of Indifference, Elie Wiesel effectively convinces his audience that indifference is worse than anger or hate through rhetorical appeals, repetition, parallelism, rhetorical questions and juxtaposition.
In the music video "Same Love", Macklemore used pathos, history, and symbolism to emphasize on gay marriage, marriage equality, and homophobia in hip-hop. It follows a storyline of how a boy started to feel like he was gay in the 3rd grade, but his mom reassured him that it was just a phase. Throughout his life, he still had that strange feeling that he could not shake. He was even pressured by his peers to play a game called seven minutes in heaven. He became very uncomfortable which caused him to leave to another party. One day, he decided to bring his partner to his parents' house for dinner and disclosed that they were getting married. As usual, the parents are surprised to hear that their child likes the same sex. Towards the end of the story, the two men get married and by their sides were their families supporting them in every way. Finally, they were happy with a child

Lyrics evoke imagery within a song. From the way the word is enunciated to the volume at which the word is expressed, the listener is being encouraged to visualize the lyricist’s emotion. Lyrics with depth can be especially evocative, conjuring positive or negative imagery that synthesizes the songwriter's sentiment in a listener’s mind. Shallow lyrics do the opposite: they fail to fortify the author’s sentiment, often because there is no coherent, well-thought-out expression of emotion. Therefore, shallow lyrics are the worst song lyrics.
Different songs can have different intentions on what message they are trying to send to the listener. As the listener, they are the only ones who interpret what they think about the song or if they like it or not. To me certain songs have lyrics that tell stories and teach life lessons and other songs I don’t even have to listen to the lyrics to like the song. Songs can reflect different sides to a person and may also relate to people’s lives. Through my three songs “Logic – The Come Up” and “Yung Dash – Momma I Made It” they represent the saying of “You will get knocked down but it’s your choice whether to get back up or not” as well as not letting anyone who doubts you get in your way with whatever you are working for.
Lorde’s thesis was that you are supposed to stop being a child once you graduate from eighth grade. The whole essay was how her parents tried to hide the fact that black people didn’t have the same rights as white individuals. Her mother never tells her that Black people weren’t allowed in the dining cars. The fact that Phyllis was told in private that she couldn’t go on the class trip, because blacks weren’t allowed to rent rooms in the hotel. Her parents felt that racism was to be dealt with in private. It was difficult for a mixed race couple to explain racism to their children. Even when they were asked to leave the ice cream shop, her parents wouldn’t speak about the discrimination. It was if they should have known better and avoided
The music at 1:06 is matching the natural rhythms of the moving objects on the screen, even though they are only pictures the set of the pictures goes with the music. For example the music starts of slow, and they show a picture of a train, it shows or represents the feelings of the characters of the long ride they are taking to their new home. After that the music starts getting fast, better beat, better vibe, that’s when they show the big crowds at the train stations. Also they have pictures of them drink at parties having fun like they have no worries. On the other hand the music at 26:56 is to give the audience a certain mood. The song that was put in that scene is a happy but goofy relaxed song, the movie was being sarcastic because they
I found that paper is well constructed, content is developed gradually. Every aspect of the rhetorical appeals for joining discourse community is covered by using anecdotes and examples like watching cousin practicing piano, playing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and ”My Heart Will Go On”, receiving keyboard, triumphant in music theory and composition in the different paragraph throughout the paper.
The genre I chose for my Paper 1 is a blog, which is one of a creative nonfiction essay. The style of it is not as serious as the five-paragraph essay, which makes my paper really easy to read and will not be boring. On the one hand, I want to use this blog to show some great functions that two Chinese apps have, which is more advanced than the similar Canadian apps. On the other hand, I want to use these strong points to give some suggestions to the Canadian apps, which can let them become more complete and practical. So that, the audience is mainly focused on the producers of YouTube and snapchat. As these producers are western people, they may not know Chinese apps very well. I use many description languages to introduce the functions more
lyricsthreaded throughout history. Song writing, like all art, is usually wrought of sadness or pure joy.
In my opinion, a song can not be described as a jumble of noises and words put together, as a song is so much more. It is truly a sequence of melodies, harmonies and vocals that work together to create a masterpiece. This idea is clearly demonstrated in Sam Smith’s masterpiece, “Lay Me Down”. At the very beginning of the song, soft yet prominent notes of piano can be heard in the background, as Sam Smith’s falsetto voice sings the song lyrics gently. When he does this it creates a very quiet and intimate effect. As the song progresses, slight hints of drums are added and the tempo begins to pick up. The lyrics are then sung with plenty of power and strength at the bridge, to accompany the moving instrumentals. The beautiful
In songcraft, the first thing that you must think of should be the lyrics to your song. You may not have to use lyrics in your song which does not change anything but most modern music these days have lyrics to express the mood of the song more. If you want lyrics in your song or songs then the first step is to brainstorm. Choose a topic that you want your song to cover and let your imagination run wild. Never hesitate in writing down the first words that come to mind if you do then that is your first mistake. Lyrics aren’t what somebody has just chosen from a book or poem they are applied in the way that the artist imagines them not how she/he wants them to sound. When I say this I do not mean that they never fix their lyrics but that they know there meaning in the song from the lyrics even if the lyrics do not make sense
What makes music great? Is this not the question that everyone asks themselves? What makes that one song so special, what makes that band so amazing? It is questions like this that I ask myself every time I listen to music; which in my case, quite a bit. There is just something about the music that speaks to you. I believe that the lyrics are a main part of what makes music great. The lyrics are what draw people in, it is what connects the listener to the performer.
