A topic of worldwide concern is the effects of global warming on the world we live in. Our awareness of this event is elevated due to our part in accelerating the rate of global warming through the excessive production of greenhouse gases polluting the atmosphere. The changes due to global warming are small but long-reaching, slowly and slightly changing the world around us, raising sea levels and temperatures. This change is viewed in a negative light as it is disrupting the current state of nature and altering the environment. Natural, we want to resist any negative changes and would rather sea levels stay at a constant level to protect beaches and coastline cities. We like to be able to control as much as we can to sustain ideal …show more content…
Climatologist Cliff Harris and Meteorologist Randy Mann observe that “our planet seems to be in a cycle of constant change” (Harris and Mann) in their analysis and data compilation of global warming and cooling cycles. They procured a displaying a cycle of temperatures from 2500BC to predicted 2040AD which did indeed show that there were constant cycles of warm and cold periods. The areas of warmer climate times were when humanity was more prosperous, such as the times of Rome and the Medieval period. Furthermore, they found in their research that in periods of colder temperatures, volcanic activity was high, which leads them to believe that high volcanic activity can be a cause or a result of global cooling (Harris and Mann). This proves that global warming is not suddenly upon us and will be our doom. When, in fact, these cycles have been occurring for as long as we can tell and we, as with all other life on Earth, has adapted to changing times and climates successfully. The periods of global warming also appeared to be prosperous times for humanity, showing we benefitted from warmer times. Meanwhile, it seems as though volcanic activity plays a role in the fate of our planet. Although, recently us humans have been outputting large amounts of greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide. As Lee Howard, an environmental activist, claims: “…abrupt global warming events
The Earth has been experiencing a considerable amount of climate change for the last several decades. Natural factors that contribute to the climate system consist of: solar output, volcanic activity and earth’s orbit around the sun. The two factors relevant on timescales of contemporary climate exist in volcanic activity and changes in solar radiation. The earth’s energy balance primarily influences the amount of incoming energy from volcanic eruptions, which have a relatively short-term effect on climate. Changes in solar output have contributed greatly to climate trends over the past century. The effect of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has been at least ten times that of changes in the Sun’s output and the ocean covers more than 70 percent of the earth’s surface, receiving twice the amount of earth’s radiation. Although the sun is the engine that drives all the weather, oceans and atmosphere control the sun 's energy along certain
The rise of sea level and global warming has become a much more serious problem right now. This problem has drawn international attention, because higher sea levels in the future would cause great damages not only in coastal area, but also in various parts of the world. We have already seen thousands of people call and lead people to protect our environment and eliminate the emission of greenhouse gases. We could lose our planet as well based on what we did. We really have to take action to prevent the dangerous outcomes happen in the future, otherwise the more people’s life would be inflected and
In recent years, the controversial subject of global warming has been more predominantly brought to our attention. Is the threat of global warming real? Is it man-made or is this just a natural cycle of earth? Does it really affect earth’s inhabitants? Should action be taken against it? If so, what kind and to what extent? It cannot be only a coincidence that the alarmingly rapid climate change coincides perfectly with the increased amount of pollutants that humans release into the environment. The once stable climate has in recent years begun to skyrocket, thus altering the delicate structure of earthly life. This proves to be hazardous to the future of the planet; some people worry that many of the resources the environment provides that
The issue of global climate change is one of the most popular debates in modern day society. For decades, scientists have been battling to find the source of our global climate change. This matter brings to us whether or not humans are accelerating the process of global climate change. Scientists have provided solid evidence of global climate change by humans in multiple studies, but others believe that climate change is caused solely by nature and the naturalness of the Earth’s cycle. According to National Aeronautics and Space Administration, also known as NASA, over 97% of climate scientists agree that global warming is mostly likely caused by human activities. In our society today, there is a lot of misconception of the definition of weather and climate. As these two terms are often associated with each other, they are not the same. Mark Twain simply summed up the definition for us: “Climate is what you expect; weather is what you get”. According to Andrew Dessler, a science politician, climate is the behavior of the environment throughout a long period of time, usually a decade or so, whereas weather refers to the actual temperature of the atmosphere at a particular period of time. “Climate change”, however, is “any systematic change in the long-term statistics of climate elements (such as temperature, pressure, or winds) sustained over several decades or longer” (Dessler). Our society often forgets that our current projects are not always necessarily benefiting us,
Global warming is a huge concern in society that is only growing bigger because people either are not well informed about it, or they are not concerned about it. Some think that it will just go away and others still believe that it doesn’t exist, even though there is hundreds if not thousands of pieces of evidence that supports otherwise. One of the biggest pieces of evidence that proves global warming is real is the effect that photosynthesis has on global warming.
Motorised vehicles have been the mainstay of transportation for the past 200 years or so, and we cannot imagine a world without such a reliable machine, however, the pressing issue of global warming has become relevant for these vehicles and for the wider population on an international scale. Oil is the main source of energy in the world, we call it petrol, but this source of fuel is not reliable nor is it environmentally stable for future use. It is stated by Barrett and Worden (2016), that the burning of fossil fuels produces around 21.3 Giga tons of CO2 every year. Taking into account the natural processes of plant life, that can only absorb half of those emissions the world creates, in which on average creates a net worth of
The issue of global warming should be on the list of our top priorities. Studies show that the average of global temperatures have risen since the Industrial Revolution began. Since the Industrial Revolution, human emissions has quadrupled the frequency of certain heat extremes and many scientists have warned that a failure to bring greenhouse gases under control could eventually lead to a 62-fold increase in extreme heat blasts (Gillis Justin A17). Most of the increase is due to human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. These activities contribute to a build-up in carbon dioxide and other gases in Earth’s atmosphere. The Earth’s atmosphere is made of gases like nitrogen, carbon dioxide and oxygen. These gases act as a blanket that covers and gives us warmth, but once these gases such as carbon dioxide absorbs heat, but does not release it back into space in which causes the increase in global temperature. This is called the greenhouse effect because it only traps heat but does not release it.
“It’s a well-kept secret, but 95 per cent of the climate models we are told prove the link between human CO2 emissions and catastrophic global warming have been found, after nearly two decades of temperature stasis, to be in error,” writes Maurice Newman, chief business advisor to Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott (Dunn). With this bold declaration, Australia thrust itself onto the international stage where it was widely criticized and condemned by the United Nations and environmental supporters worldwide. Already behind the world in climate change legislation, Australia quickly became the face of global warming denial.

Four decades from now, we do not want to repeat the story in the movie The Age of Stupid, in which a man lives in the devastated future world of 2055. The man looks back to today’s date and asks himself why we did not stop the climate change when we had the chance. However, today global warming is out of control, global temperatures are steadily rising. “The primary cause, a consensus of scientists has said, is the rising emissions of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane” (Stone, 2013). The CO2 stays in the atmosphere for 50 to 100 years, nitrous oxide for 114 years while the methane stay in the atmosphere for at least 12 years. The impact of these greenhouse gases is of an immediate concern as it is increasing and is long lasting so we should not wait any longer to control the human activities that produce these greenhouse gases causing the climate change.
Many people who watch¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ news daily knows that it often display either social unrest, financial crises, or political struggle such as the Syrian war. One reason why Syrians are engaged in a war is that they are experiencing extreme heat and drought which causes them to be more rebellious and aggressive. The underlying cause of these trouble can be due to global warming. Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases trap heat in Earth’s atmosphere because some of the sun’s ray cannot escape. It is a worldwide phenomenon that impacts each and every one of us because it cause irregular climate patterns, increase the sea levels, and decrease human living standards.
With the increasingly serious problem of global warming, Australia’s climate has warmed since 1950. ("State of the Climate 2014: Bureau of Meteorology", 2016) Compared with air conditioners which required for high cost, electricity expense and health hazard (under an enclosed environment, there has poor air circulation and air quality which would have negative effect for human body. Moreover, without appropriate maintenance, some particulate matter such as bacterial, pesticides and allergens can enter houses from outside environment which will cause health problems.) (McCarthy, Ludwig, Brown, Vaughn, & Roberts, 2013)
“ There’s one issue that will define the contours of this century more dramatically than any other, and that is the urgent threat of a changing climate “ ( Barack Obama ). Global warming is the increase of earth’s average surface temperature. The threat has presently widespread over a 50 year timeline. The human race has birthed a disastrous world that is deteriorating every second of the day. It is becoming almost too hard to come back from this catastrophe.
Global warming can be said to be accelerating in a rapid manner. In fact, many countries, ecosystems as well as people are suffering from its impacts. Climate change has affected the weather patterns and has indeed disrupted the variability and trends that exist in climate. This has resulted into an increase in climate-related extremes such as heavy downpour, floods, surges, and droughts. However, it has been seen that indeed most of the affected nations are the ones that have not even contributed immensely to pollution of the globe. Climate change presents an environmental challenge, economic challenge and social challenge to the country that it affects. Bangladesh is a standout amongst the most defenseless nations to climate
One of the biggest problems facing in today 's world is global warming. It is affecting the earth from climate changes, storms becoming worse over time creating damage to peoples homes, species dying because they can’t adapt rapidly to the changes, animal 's population is shrinking and new diseases being created. Thankfully through time we have developed new technology to reduce the effect of global warming. However since we have dealt with global warming for so long for many years, we have double these years with using green energy to help reduce global warming; however it is not going to be possible if not everyone pitch in the do so. As of today we know carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are part of global warming, and the heating effect is heating up the atmosphere. So soon through time if we as humans don’t change our ways then the heat can be dangerous for human life. During this essay I will discuss the problems of some global warming events that can occur and ways of solving the problem using solar. The planet earth we live on can become a healthier planet through time and stay that way.
