A woman arrived on the scene to pick up Crenshaw as the events were unfolding. She recalled the struggle appeared to be Wilson pulling Brown in the vehicle and Brown fighting to pull away from the vehicle. After hearing a gunshot, Brown broke free and began to run away. The officer followed Brown while shooting at him. She said she saw Brown’s body jerk, as if he had been hit by a bullet, and turned around with his hands up. Wilson continued to walk toward Brown and fired several more shots until Brown fell, face-first on the pavement.
A construction worker that was working nearby gave his account of the incident and requested that he remain anonymous. He saw the officer chasing Brown and was 10 to 15 feet behind him when he fired and struck Brown. Brown stopped at that point and said, "OK, OK, OK, OK, OK." He turned around with his hands up and started walking toward Wilson. Wilson was stepping backward, away from Brown, as he was firing at him. The construction worker stated that he could not tell if Brown was stumbling forward or aggressively approaching Wilson but denied Wilson’s report that he was rushing toward him.
James McKnight claimed to witness the shooting and reported seeing Brown raise his hands as he stopped and turned toward the officer. He said Brown stumbled in the officer’s direction but did not rush him.
Another resident in the area witnessed Brown walking toward Wilson at a steady pace. Phillip Walker denied that Brown rushed toward Wilson
On Saturday, August 9, 2014 an unarmed 18-year-old male, Michael Brown, was fatally shot by Darren Wilson, a Ferguson police officer. There were a handful of witnesses but no concrete evidence on what happened. The police officer, Darren Wilson, claims Brown pinned him in his vehicle and was in fear for his life as they struggled over his gun. Wilson has told authorities that during the scuffle, Brown reached for the gun. He goes on to say the gun went off twice in the car, one hitting Brown while the other missed. Multiple forensics test show that Brown’s blood was on the gun, on Officer Wilson’s uniform as well as the interior door panel which supports Officer Wilson’s
Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot and killed on August 2014, by Darren Wilson, a white police officer, in Ferguson, Mo. Brown, an 18-year-old African-American was fatally shot and killed in the street shortly after robbing a convenience store. The disputed circumstances of the shooting of the unarmed young man sparked existing tensions in the majority-black community and law enforcements in Ferguson, Mo. The event received considerable attention in the U.S. and elsewhere, attracted protesters from outside the region, and generated a powerful debate about the relationship between law enforcement and African Americans and the police use of excessive force. The shooting prompted protests that shaken the area for weeks. The announcement of the grand jury that they decided not to indict Mr. Wilson set off another wave of protests. Many police officers have defended Wilson, pointing out that officers patrolling violent neighborhoods risk their lives, while demonstrators saw the case in terms of racism and police brutality. However, Brown’s killing and the following events in Ferguson became a national controversy touching on much larger national issues of race, justice, and police brutality. While the specifics of the Brown shooting involved is not clear, the situation would have been dramatically different had Wilson worn body camera which would have recorded the actual event. With new body camera technology
9 shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old who had scuffled with Ferguson officer Darren Wilson, came just a few weeks after Eric Garner — an unarmed black man accused of illegally selling cigarettes — died in a struggle with white New York City officers. Garner’s death was captured by an onlooker’s video. Brown’s was not, and word quickly spread that he had been shot while surrendering with his hands up — an assertion uncorroborated by state and federal investigations.
Michael Brown was stopped for jaywalking which does not warrant death. Many eyewitnesses claim that Wilson reversed back toward Brown in rage, his tires screeching, and threw open his door. Wilson tried to get a hold of Brown but he managed to get out of his grip and started running down the street, away from Wilson. Wilson pulled out his gun and shot at Brown. One of
Please, don’t shoot! The tension in Ferguson is so high right now that you could cut it with a knife. This is due to the latest shooting of eighteen year old Michael Brown. On August 9, 2014 Brown was the victim of a fatal shooting by Darren Wilson, a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson were walking down the middle of the street, when Wilson drove up and told them to move to the sidewalk. An altercation occurred between Brown and Wilson struggling through the window of the police car until Wilson’s gun was fired. Brown and Johnson then fled in different directions with Wilson chasing Brown. Wilson then fired shots several more times. A total of twelve shots was fired. Brown was hit by six or seven bullets. The last shot that hit him was the most fatal. Witnesses of the scene had different stories about whether Brown had his hand raised above him or not before he was shot. This incident sparked unrest in Ferguson.
On August 9, 2014 a white male police officer named Darren Wilson fatally shot an African-American male named Michael Brown to death in Ferguson, MO. An investigation was immediately launched through the collection of evidence from the crime scene, an autopsy of Michael Brown’s body, and interviews with witnesses. For several months following the shooting and after the Grand Jury met, there was immense public speculation over whether Officer Wilson justifiably shot in self-defense or in racially motivated cold blooded murder. The ballistic evidence collected from the crime scene and from the autopsy corroborated Wilson’s story that he was justified in what transpired that fateful afternoon.
The spark in Ferguson was the shooting of Michael Brown by Police Officer Darren Wilson following a confrontation in which Brown's friend Dorian Johnson said Wilson told him and Brown to "get the fuck out of the street." Ferguson police say Wilson acted in self-defense when Brown tried to grab his gun, witnesses have said Brown was trying to surrender. The belief among his supporters that Brown was shot with his hands up supporters inspired a rallying cry in Ferguson and all over the country: “Hands up, don’t
As the author describes story, “Chief Thomas Jackson says Darren Wilson, the officer who shot Brown, did not know Brown was a suspect in a strong-arm robbery that happened moments before the shooting. Wilson stopped Brown for walking in the middle of the street” (par. 45).
Forensics later came out to support officers Wilsons statement that Brown had in fact charged at the officer and attempted to take Wilsons gun. It also proved that Brown did not have his hands up like the media had initially stated, which caused mass frenzy and a huge protest that led to chants of “hands up don’t shoot” and “black lives matter” (Hitchcock). Now people start to look at other facts how he didn’t have a weapon on him at the time of the shooting and say that they didn’t have to shoot and kill him. You do not need a gun or knife to be a danger to another person; you always have two weapons, which are your hands. Police shoot to kill they do not shoot to disarm (Miller) because you can still be a threat. It doesn’t mean that you still cannot kill someone who is a lot smaller than you without having a gun. Black lives matter has become a major group protesting all over major cities in the United States at the hands of Rev Al Sharpton. They have started many protest and campaigns to try and change laws in which police are aloud to use deadly force when trying to arrest a suspect.
Wilson reported that he was back in service and radioed untits 25 and 22 to ask if they still needed assistance in searching for the suspects, Seven seconds later, an unidentified officer said the suspects had disappeared. Wilson called for backup at 12:02, saying Unit 21. Put me on Canfield with two. And send another car. Reports of what happened next differ widely between sources and witnesses, but Brown ended up shot dead by Wilson. At noon on August 9, Wilson drove up to Brown and Johnson in the middle of Canfield Drive and ordered them to move off the street and onto the sidewalk. Wilson continued driving past the two men, but then back and stopped close to them. ("Shooting of Michael
Witnesses at the crime scene said both that Brown had charged the Wilson in the car, and also said that Brown was never at all in the car. Witnesses described Browns movements in both two different ways again. The first way was that Brown charged Officer Wilson, and that was when Officer Wilson shot at him. The other way that was described was Brown did not charge at all and at one point had his hands in the air. The reason I bring up this case is because if Officer Wilson would have been wearing a body mounted camera, the jury would have been able to see what Browns movements were and also if Brown did indeed attack Wilson in the officer 's car. This evidence may or may not have changed the outcome of the case, and could have saved a young mans life.
Therefore leading to Browns unfair death. For instance, Witness 35 claims to have seen Brown getting on his knees and pleading for his life. His words were, “I seent them, I seen him runnin’. I seen Michael Brown drop to his knees and when he said that my cousin took off and ran. And I seen them shoot Michael Brown in the head as soon as the police officer exit, exited his truck.” Although Brown was shot on the forehead, according to his autopsy his bullet wound indicates the bullet went downward which resulted in the bullet exiting through the right side of his jaw and re-entering the upper chest. Therefore, witness thirty-five is lying about what he had seen or hugely mistaken. Another witness who claimed that Brown surrendered is witness forty-two. She claims that Brown is running away and gets shot in the back, Brown then turns around with his hands up, but officer Wilson continues to fire his weapon at Brown’s Chest. She then proceeds to say that Officer Wilson has finished Brown off by shooting him in the head. However, Brown’s autopsy report did have a bullet wound that entered from the back of Brown and the rest entering from the front of Brown’s body the shot to the head would have been from Brown running towards officer wilson with his head facing down. As stated in the autopsy report, “Given Mr. Brown’s height, his
Around 11:54 AM, Surveillance catches Mr. Brown stealing some cigarillos. Shortly after 12:00 PM, Officer Darren Wilson arrives, alone in his police vehicle. He starts speaking through his window and tells the two men, “Move to the sidewalk.” (Officer Wilson). He sees that Mr. Brown fits the description of a suspect in a convenience store theft. Somewhere in where Officer Wilson moves his vehicle out of traffic and to the side, he gets in an altercation with Mr. brown, who is right next to the window of the vehicle. Officer Wilson fires 2 shots from the inside of his vehicle. One barely hits Michael Brown on the thumb and the other completely missing him. “Mr. Brown runs east. Officer Wilson pursues him on foot. Mr. Brown stops and turns toward Officer Wilson, who also stops. Mr. Brown moves toward Officer Wilson, who fires several more shots. Mr. Brown is fatally wounded.” (Officer Wilson). After further investigations with this report, Officer Wilson said, “Mr. Brown reached into the vehicle and fought for my gun.” Some witnesses said Mr. Brown never moved toward Officer Wilson when he was shot and killed. Most of the witnesses said the shots were fired as he moved toward Officer
The shooting of African American teenager Michael Brown by white officer Darren Wilson has been a hot topic of debate. Those in support of Michael Brown believe that Darren Wilson racially profiled Brown and that the shooting would have never occurred had Brown been white. Those in support of Darren Wilson state that he acted in self-defense. This argument has more evidence supporting it than the argument that Brown was racially profiled.
