Hello Everyone, I’m Johnathan Buchanan, but my friends call me “Shaun”. I currently serve in the United States Army in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. I have been in the Army going on five years this month. I’ve been married for two years and have a six month old son. I grew up in a small town called Macon, Mississippi. I enjoy playing sports, riding atv, and spending time with my family on my spare time. I have read and understand the APUS plagiarism policy. At all time, every student should be accountable for their own work. The plagiarism policy is there to make sure students are learning rather than copying and using someone else work. I’m not a big fan when it comes down to writing, but it is also something that I’m willing to work on

The librarian visited our class to do a presentation regarding the APA Citation Style and Plagiarism. I have learned a lot more information on how to avoid plagiarism and how to cite it appropriately. APA offers guidelines for overall paper layout, citations, abstract, style, and references. Students are often asked to adhere to the APA guidelines when writing papers, research essays, and reports. Understanding and following the rules of APA can assist a student in writing a well-formatted and professional looking academic paper.
This policy outlines what consequences are given to students who are found breaking this policy. I would follow the policy in order to give the appropriate consequences to my student. Also, I would give my student an extra assignment to complete regarding plagiarism. This assignment would be for students to go through the Indiana University training over plagiarism and then write a short essay on what they learned and how they would handle the situation differently. I believe by giving the student an extra assignment, it allows the student to learn from their mistake and also have a chance to earn partial credit on their
Oakton College has also approached that they are against plagiarism and they have rules for it. The rules can be found in their admission, these rules also found in each class syllabus. In my opinion, people have exaggerated the concept of plagiarism. It is true that is not far to acknowledge someone’s work but sometimes it is hard to not to do so; new ideas come from old ones and people should appreciate that their ideas were inspiration for new
Established in the Policy are the expectations for original work, rationale for the policy, definition of terms that pertain to academic honesty and original work, and disciplinary consequences of academic dishonesty. Also stated in the Policy is the expectation that learners will follow APA rules for citing another person’s ideas or works.
Once any plagiarism is verified, penalties under the policy are taken an action immediately, which means two schools will not tolerate toward the dishonesty (Academic Honesty,n.d p1;Feb 17, 2011). Seneca(Academic Honesty,n.d,p2) and York(Feb 17,2011) have constituted academic policies such as a grade of zero, a failure of the course, and a suspension from the school. In addition, according to Seneca (Appendix E,n.d) also, they has stated that all submitted works by students may be reviewed for
For these reasons, Seneca and George Brown honesty policies have a similarity and two difference about plagiarism. The definitions of plagiarism are similar in term of the forms of plagiarism, however, Seneca policy has more specific enforcing penalties and process for verifying than George Brown policy. Therefore, Seneca students can more realize seriousness of plagiarism and they may not try to commit plagiarism, if they know the
I was aware of the plagiarism policy that is in place but did not fully understand why or the consequences fully. I will review the following recourses: Eriksson, Li, and Tara Renae McGee. plagiarism is the biggest problem education of college or university. The concept of plagiarism is when someone copy of other’s idea, writing, artistic work or creations. According to Emma Teitel’s (2011) article, “all colleges have a definition of plagiarism”, more than 1,000 students were being accused of plagiarism. Every college and university might have their own policies of plagiarism. Both of them has to explain how students should avoid plagiarism and what the consequences of each offence are. Both Seneca and Centennial colleges have similarities and differences regarding definition, penalties and process. However, Seneca’s policy is easier to understand because it is more clear than Centennial’s policy.
As a student at the University of Maryland University College, I understand that it is my duty to understand the plagiarism policy and pledge to abide by it. I have been educated on the definition of plagiarism and how to avoid plagiarism. I have been educated on the subject of academic integrity and what steps I must take to always retain academic integrity. I will always do my best to only submit accurate research data, complete all assignments in an honest way and do everything I can to avoid plagiarism. I will avoid plagiarism by always submitting work that is the product of my own ideas. I will also do my best to properly cite and acknowledge all of my sources using the correct citation style. I will try to only quote sources when absolutely
My relationship with writing sometimes is on the fence. It just depends on the topic I have to write about. If it is something I have passion for, the words can flow like
The University of the People's Academic Integrity and Code of Conduct Statements has clearly explained everything its students are meant to know when it comes to academic integrity. It has made it clear to both new and old students that plagiarism in any form would not be condoned, and I think that is a good thing because it gives a sense of discipline to students.
How can one prevent plagiarism; such a great question, but more complex than the topic sounds? Common sense states plagrism is taking someone else's work and claiming the writing as your own. This is the basic form, but this is what can get so many students in trouble. If you have a previous piece that you use in a current assignment you must site your self as the author of the source; crazy right? Another big one that is also APUS policy is any assignment submitted that has over 50% of sited material is an automatic zero. I learned this one the hard way last semester I had to take a zero on paper that was 50% sited. My technique for avoiding plagrism is I immediately site the source and record it. If I remember a bit of information from the
In conclusion, i believe that we should be helping those students who do not understand plagiarism instead of pointing them out and handing tariffs to them. We should be encouraging them to better understand plagiarism not punish them, even though it is a crime it does not make it right to punish them when they are not aware of plagiarism or yet understand
Without regard to the needs of basic writing students; Generally speaking, special privileges under no circumstances should be permitted in such a professional setting. Everyone should be treated equally despite the fact of what English class they 're in. I feel as though the idea of having the policy rules being altered should be disregarded. Because to me even though an individual is uninformed on how plagiarism works. That does not necessarily mean that they 're incapable of managing to learn as they go and apply the information being learned or taught about plagiarism in a classroom setting or on campus. With all things considered, if professors and administrators were to revise the policy they would be perceived as being immensely sympathetic in relation to student 's actions towards plagiarism. Provided that this would then permit the student 's to be in a more heighten repetitive stage and continue that plagiarism behavior.
