Socially and Emotionally the family is a big influence in a child’s development. Parents have a big role by providing care and guidance for their development. Unfortunately some families cannot promote the development of a child because of the conflict among the parents. A single parent can have difficulties in boosting a better development in children and young people, sometimes a child is separated from its siblings and this can affect them too.
The methods or style of parenting, teaching and engagements strong impacts on the child development as it is the primary socialization point for children. It gives children a point of reference as when they are young they grow observing and learning keenly on what their parents are doing. Studies show that, children that are raised by active, involving and playful fathers performs better in school, have higher IQ and can cope with school related stress easily compared to those that are raised in families where father figure is absent or less involving. The family is always the first, most persistent, endless, persevering, and important educational setting for the development of the personality and intellect of children throughout their lives. In particular, parents are the ones who always have the method of adjusting their children in the most appropriate way. In contrast, children always listen to and place their belief in their parents almost absolutely. I have seen it. My friend son’s story happened in an English
Students abilities strongly correlate with the family’s socioeconomic status i.e. it depends on a combination of variables, including occupation, education, income, wealth, and place of residence. Children who lost their family function or relationship have also difficulties to have a sustainable education from school. Family and school can be important elements to construct their stability life. The lack of community and education has a worse effect to their life. Education is a strong key to get out of the root of poverty. The function of family has a huge impact of the individual life without children’s will.
A child’s success is a parents’ success. Every parent wants their child to do well and hence when compared to the parents who actively engage themselves with their child; the academic performance of the child would be well above. But this cannot be true for all as it is sad to know that all parents are not educated. This research is done with Year 11 students and sometimes it is difficult for parents to engage and help their child even if they wish to just because the parents are not educated enough or the child is doing a different subject form what the parent is qualified in. For instance during the parent interview session, a parent is a Masters Graduate in Business and Accounts but his child is taking Chemistry, Biology and Home Economics.

Before looking at the theories and studies that support the argument it is important to look at two individual but interconnected factors that can influence pupils’ performance. Studies have found that in some cases teachers’ develop their expectations based on reliable criteria, such as past academic performance or classroom behaviour (Dusek & Joseph, 1983). Moreover, research conducted by Rist (1970) sheds light on the idea that teachers generally have a preconceived idea of what it takes for a student to succeed academically, thus, explaining, the majority of teachers believe that there is an ideal type of student who possess specific characteristics which will insure academic success. However despite this, Dusek & Joseph (1983) conducted an analysis of various studies in order to determine the bases of this argument and found that gender and belonging to a one-parent family were usually not determinants of teacher expectations.
