Have you ever shown up to class totally forgetting to look over the notes and study guide for the chapter test that day? Lack of preparation is a huge contributor to academic dishonesty. Forgetting to study can cause those who would not usually cheat to stoop low and look at someone else 's work. Some students rely on cheating to make their way through high school or college. Academic dishonesty is a way lazy students take advantage of hard working students. Whether the academic dishonesty is caused because of the lack of preparation, a poor work ethic, or by having a poor home life; it usually leads to violating academic dishonesty school policies and leading to short term and long term effects. One day I showed up to my government class, my first block of the day. I did not believe we had any assignments, so I had not brought home any class materials the day before. I walked into the classroom and asked the teacher what the day 's plan was. He immediately raised his eyebrows and said, ‘Well, we have our chapter 3 test today.’ Immediately shocked, I panicked. This situation is how many students fall into the cheating trap. This panic has caused plenty of students to wander their eyes to surrounding test looking for answers. Thankfully I knew that cheating was not the answer. I respectfully told my teacher what had happened and he allowed me to briefly review my notes before I took the test. As college standards increase yearly, students feel greater pressure to succeed. As a result of the rising academic expectations, cheating has become a national issue and most students have admitted to cheating at least once in their educational career. Overloaded with school work, students see cheating as an advantage and step towards academic success. Thus, cheating results from an urgency to do well in school and being overscheduled.

Initially, the author establishes plagiarism as a major problem on college campuses. A third reason leading to the increase in academic dishonesty is the pure and simple fact that once a student cheats on a paper or any type of homework assignment and does not get caught and reprimanded for their actions, the more that student believes that they can keep doing it without getting caught. The more and more that a student cheats and gets away with it the more the student feels that they are invisible and can continue doing it. This is a sad occasion when this happens because the student is only hurting themselves. They are not hurting their parents or their teachers because they are not the ones that are going to be getting a job from this education it is the student that is hurting the students.
Cheating has become a major problem here in the United States. It seems teachers have not figured out a way to prevent students from cheating. Academic dishonesty is a virus that has spread around the entire campus. Cheating cannot be fixed by school officials because it is too large to eradicate, and because there is no way for teachers or anyone to stop students from having the desire to cheat.

Did you know that 85 percent of adolescents participate in academic dishonesty before graduating high school? As I jotted down ideas, I came up with the concept of cheating because I see many people in my surrounds doing it. The categorical and numerical questions I came up with in my study are, “What subject would you cheat on, if you were in need for a good grade? If you were given 10 problems, how many problems would you cheat on?”

The type that is hardest for me is remembering to do the in-text cite. Correcting it is and should be a little more easier than I make it seem. Remember to use in text citation and put quotation marks around what the writer quoted. That way I would be giving the credit to the author or publisher for what they have written. I will then be avoiding plagiarism and will not have to worry about getting put out of school for it. Therefore, I will be able to continue my career goal of completing this degree.

McCabe has said that an estimated seventy percent of college students have admitted to some type of cheating. He supports this claim by saying that the parties to blame here is the school system and the media. HBU defines academic dishonesty to when a student cheats or steals someone’s work and passes it as their own among these are a list of actions that count for academic dishonesty. Some examples being brought up about dishonesty is how in the NFL saw past the deflating incident in the Super Bowl were it seems like the media praised the player for his actions (Loschiavo). Therefor, students think it is correct to do be dishonest in their class work.
Academic dishonesty is another facet of unethical behaviour. It is an action or attempt that results in creating an unfair academic advantage for oneself or a disadvantage for any other member of academic community. A child uses his or her experiences in society to shape personal ethics. Family has a strong influence on one's values and behaviour,parents establish rules from the start and it becomes the basis for our ethics and morals. A personal ethical commitment is part of what makes students a success. A lack of ethical commitment will always result in acdemic failure. I personally believe that students who are academically dishonest cheat themselves out of an education and harm their fellow students by screwing the grading curve for the class as a whole. Therefore academic ethics are vital and students should commit themselves to maintaining highest personal ethical standards.
