Students who are taking the easy way out and abusing Adderall are cheating themselves and other students. Matt Lamkin, in the article A Ban on Brain-Boosting Drugs is not the Answer, said “Students [who] use such drugs to mitigate the consequences of procrastination, they may fail to develop mental discipline and time-management skills” (Lamkin). Students who abuse Adderall will start to believe that they do not have to put effort into their work or studies. They will also start to think that they are capable of finishing something in a shorter period of time, but in reality, without taking the drug, it will take them longer to finish the paper or study for the exam. According to Michelle Trudeau, “[Adderall] takes away your own coping skills and your own ability to evolve your own study skills and work ethic, so it's kind of an easy way out.” (Trudeau). Students will stop developing their own skills, if they rely on Adderall to do everything. Students who take Adderall are taking the easy way out; they are not struggling to stay up all night and concentrating on their work. It is also not fair to the students who put time and effort into their work.

Each dosage is prescribed s per patient according to their level of neediness and age. One capsule should be consumed daily by mouth unless otherwise told by psychiatrist or physician. There are many side effects for consuming Adderall. One major side effect is a suppressed appetite and headaches. Some side effects may be severe if a patient contains glaucoma, when the eyesight of an individual decreasing causing a loss of sight; if the patient has a background of dipsomania or any substance that the patient was addicted to would be a contraindication for the use of adderall. Other symptoms of drug use include loss of appetite, trouble with sleep, and overall illness (McLaughlin). More serious side effects include high blood pressure (Jaffe). Adderall can also be harmful to the cardiovascular system, which can lead to heart disease (Green).The use of this drug can affect the body in serious ways for a person without a prescription. During withdrawal addicts experience many negative symptoms varing in severity. A form of treatment to reduce withdrawal symptoms and helping with detox is methadone which is also an opiod. When addicts are first put on methadone they take the instructed dosage, then over time the dosage slowly decreases. Methadone decreases the cravings of opioids and helps in maintaining to be free from other substances. Although I do not completly agree with taking medication to stop drug addiction, methadone has shown to be effective in treating drug addiction.

In the modern world of college, an excessive use of the academic steroid, Adderall, has become an easily acquired study drug. It is important to note that Adderall use is becoming an increasingly prevalent issue among students, and can no longer be ignored. Many medical professionals have discovered the benefits of regularly taking Adderall, but unfortunately have unknowingly contributed to the ease of attainability of the academic steroid. Some may argue that the enhancer acts as a remedy to the growing need for focus, when in fact this resolution has led to a whole new set of overwhelming problems such as addiction and unnecessary use.
