Addie Ann's Voice In Chapter 23

At the end of chapter 23, Addie Ann says, “When I hear that whisper, I know whose it is… I know that voice. It’s my own.” (Burg, 187). Addie Ann finally recognizes her own voice because Elias is right next to her, there is no reason to imagine him anymore. She mistook these whispers for her brother’s before because he was not with her and she didn’t know if he was alive or not. So, Addie Ann imagined those whispers as Elias’s so she would feel as if he was there with her, comforting and guiding
