I want to pursue a career in medicine by working in the field of nursing. Specifically, after graduating from Illinois State University, I plan to start working in pediatrics to help me become a certified pediatric nurse. A bachelor's degree from ISU’s Mennonite College of Nursing is a good fit for my educational goals because of your high freshman retention, graduation, and pass rates for national and state licensure examinations. ISU has an excellent academic reputation, and because I am someone who takes my academics seriously, academic quality is important to me. After seeing the campus tour videos, looking at your majors, and learning about the Traditional BSN program, I knew ISU was the school for me. I know that at ISU I can develop the skills necessary for success first in college, then in the nursing field.

Being an Emergency Room nurse for 7 years and working as a traveling nurse in many different parts of the country has impacted my future and decision of going back to school. My personal career goal is to become a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with specialization in pediatric critical care area, mainly pediatric emergency medicine. I have known since a very young age that I had a gift for working with children. My colleagues always call me the “pediatric nurse”. I feel it takes a very special type of person to work with pediatrics, and this is where my heart is. I experience anxiety, but have learned how to cope and deal with it. It is not always easy when there are so many things that can be thrown at you through life. I would like to become a DNP Family Nurse Practitioner. The requirements I will need for this degree will be RN licensure, followed by a BSN program, then a Nurse Practitioner doctorate program in family medicine. The road that will take me to this goal will be graduating Columbia Basin College with an ADN, take and pass the NCLEX, followed by one year of clinical experience. I will then apply to an online BSN program, preferably CBC, but I could apply to WGU, or WSU. An online BSN program may take one year to eighteen months to complete. I first heard about Concordia University Irvine’s ABSN program through my cousin Ana Versigan who is a graduate from the program. My cousin greatly admired Concordia’s ABSN program and she highly advised me to apply for the program. The ABSN program at CUI immensely prepared Ana for her career as a nurse. CUI provided small classes and opportunities to interact with the professors which cannot be said about other schools. She was able to make connections with her professors and received exceptional help from her professors and worked in groups with her classmates. With the education and help from the professors, she was prepared for interviews where she performed remarkably well and was offered multiple positions. Ana’s exemplary success due to her educational background at Concordia fiercely encouraged my decision to apply for CUI’s ABSN program. I believe that I would make an exceptional addition to CUI’s ABSN program because I believe that I have qualities and characteristics that make me a strong fit for a career in nursing.

My love for nursing began early in my life; in high school, my continuing desire to become a nurse resulted in my applying and being accepted to Midwestern State University. There, I received a BSN and became a registered nurse. My experience at Midwestern prepared me for a successful career by instilling confidence within me as I joined the workforce. As my experience grew and years went by, I became eager to further my education and pursue my master's degree. Then life happened: the two-legged version that requires love, compassion, energy, and time. Now that my child is in school, with the support of my family, I am ready and dedicated to become a family nurse practitioner.

I am a proud employee at Scripps Mercy Hospital and have been here since 2012 working as a CNA. I have recently been accepted to San Diego City college Associate Degree Nursing program. Since the age of 16 I knew nursing was my calling. I attended a local community college as part of a program in high school and earned my Nursing assistant certificate. I have worked extremely hard to get where I am today and earning this degree would mean the world to me. This degree would allow me to contribute my skills as an RN to provide efficient, effective patient-centered care at Scripps health.

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to work in the medical field. From performing imaginary check ups on my community of dolls as a child to watching medical television shows, being able to enter the workforce with the skills to start a nursing career has been my most desired goal from a young age. I am writing to express my interest in admittance to the South University Family Nurse Practitioner program for fall of 2016. This program came highly recommended to me by a professional colleague who is currently precepting students enrolled in this program. I have been a registered nurse for eleven years and have recently received my bachelor’s degree in nursing from Daytona State College _______. I have an Associate Degree in nursing from Queensborough Community College. I had a Bachelor in Environmental Engineering already and I was looking for the fastest and most inexpensive way to become a nurse when I started the nursing program at Queensborough Community College. When I graduated from the nursing school, I thought that ADN would be enough to be a nurse and I could start working as soon as I got the license. Soon after passing the board, I started realized that it was very hard to find any job as a newly graduated nurse with ADN. I got pieces of advice from professors and decided to go to Molloy College to study Family Nurse Practitioner. After three courses there, even though it would be the fastest way to be an FNP with other Bachelor degree, I realized that I had no experience to share in as a nurse. I sat down and seriously thought about what I like to do.

I am currently in my second year of studies at Delaware County Community College. My major is Science for the Health Professions and my goal is to be enrolled in Thomas Jefferson University's Nursing Program by Fall 2017. My mother is currently a Registered Nurse. She has inspired me to fulfill this career and I aim to surpass her success and achieve my Masters Degree in Nursing rather than an Associate's. However, this past year has proven to be the most difficult in my efforts of achieving this dream of mine.
