IV. Advantages, disadvantages and effects of the coping mechanism on the person using it

It was also added that this is effective since it decreases the effects of stress on people, thereby protecting us from the possible complications these can bring to us.
It is advantageous, as the effects tell us. However, a possible disadvantage it can bring is the sense of dependence. One thing that can also bring us to disadvantage is when the people from whom we will be asking for support will be gone, or are not available to help us during the stressful moment. Using spirituality as a coping mechanism brings the sense of calmness, peacefulness and relaxation. When one prays, as done by the African-Americans, he/she usually closes his/her eyes for one moment and find the remaining peace within us before we pry.
