Challenges faced by Self-Help Groups in India:
The following are the challenges faced by SHG’s in India:
1. Inefficient marketing: TheDistrict Rural Development Agencies (DRDAs) organize melas of the products of SHGs on regular basis. These exhibitions are organized at the block and district levels. But, the frequency of such melas is very less. On account of this, SHG members do not have a regular link with markets for selling their products.
2. Hurdles in getting loans: Banks do not trust the SHG members and the office bearers. Bank defaulters have further aggravated this problem. In some cases, some members who are running successful find it difficult to get loans due to the presence of defaulters in their family.
3.Irregular meetings: SHGs should meet regularly once in a week/fortnight/month as per the rules decided by the members. This is to provide a platform for discussing various common problems and enable smooth functioning of SHGs. But in reality, monthly meetings are not taking place as per the rules of the SHG. This results in lack of interest in running their

Self-help groups are used for the purpose of offering support, gathering information, and combining resources. Community-based support group observation and reaction paper is the first assignment that has to be completed for my class Social Work with Groups. In this assignment, I will discuss how I located the support group of my choice, what I was able to observe in the group session, and feelings or reactions I had during the process. This assignment will give a look into my first experience attending a real-life support group session from the other side of the coin. On this occasion, I was able to experience it from the point of view of a group member and not a facilitator which is definitely a shift in roles. Being able to go through this experience gives me the opportunity to experience a session firsthand and be able to observe and identify

Track 1 residency really taught me so much about myself. We had so much time to ask questions about how to counsel people. We did some relaxing exercises, and we had the chance to learn about other people. I learned that it is important to be aware of how you are handling what you are experiencing in that very moment. This was a time to ask questions, and to learn how to ask people questions. In track 2, I hope to further enhance my skills what learning how to use the skills that I already have.

The type of group approach I would propose for this population is a support group. Support groups are an important part of the approach used in helping the bereaved suffering from grief and loss. An important goal of the support group is to use mutual aid to help participants understand and accept themselves as they are (Raby,R 2010). . Mutual aid is sometimes used in a support group to help participants share resources for mutual benefit. Understanding and acceptance are the first steps towards self-help in a group.
In the grief support group I co-lead with a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and supervised by a Master of Social Work I learned how to facilitate a meeting. The LPCC taught me the person-centered approach and the social worker taught me to monitor client’s progression of goals. She allowed me to take lead, to link members together by similarities they share, and to give members homework. The LPCC believed in self-disclosure, she demonstrated this for me in a fantastic manner the social worker I was with did as well. Teaching me that it is great to self-disclose when appropriate and when it will benefit the progression of the group or for them to feel comfortable trusting the leader. In my group sessions I did not deem self-disclosure appropriate to use. How I will translate this is to be aware of my clients, to ask them what goals they hope to achieve, and for them to keep journals of progress. I will create a safe atmosphere for clients to speak, provide affirmation, and help clients set and maintain goals.
