Introduction
The motorcycle can be termed as a necessary evil (Chenier & Evans, 1987). This is due to the fact that despite the fatalities and deaths it causes when involved in an accident, more and more of them are still being manufactured and used by many people not only in the United States but also in other parts of the world. Since the need for the motorcycle is on the rise regardless of the injuries and deaths it causes, the focus should be put more on the solutions to the problem. There is already the problem of injuries or even deaths of the passengers and motorcyclists caused by motorcycles. How can this be addressed? There are four different people involved in this scenario. These are the person riding the motorcycle, the passenger,

Helmet wearing has a number of advantages. For instance, it protects head-related injuries. Most of the injuries caused by motorcycle accidents target the head. Head is a very important part of the body since it houses the brain. Therefore, brain injury is very common during a motorcycle accident. The advantage of wearing the helmet is that it protects the head during an accident which in turn prevent brain injury (Harvey et al., 2017).
The second advantage of wearing the helmet is that it significantly increases the chances of survival in case of an accident. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2012 approximately 1,699 lives were saved courtesy of wearing of helmets (Olsen et al., 2016). The risk the motorists are subjected to when riding without the helmet is higher than riding with the helmet. It is reported that riders and passengers who fail to wear helmets are at risk of suffering a traumatic brain injury in case they get involved in an accident (Olsen et al., 2016). Failure to wear the helmet during riding of a motorcycle leaves the head more vulnerable to a traumatic impact in case of an accident even if that accident is not
I don't see any reason to wear a helmet when I ride a bike. Everyone bikes without a helmet.
Sports is a major part of mostly everyone’s life either you watch it or just participate in it. Though it has it benefits, everyone has the reason why they participate or enjoy watching sports. With the benefits comes with some consequence. When a football player puts on a helmet, he knows what he gets himself into. Although they have a helmet on, they are not guarantee not to get a concussion, according to Press Release “there was a new study that found out that football helmets currently used on the field does little to no protection against hits to side if the head” (AAN).
One of the things I would like to address is that I think when It comes down to it helmets do help the impact lessen by having cushion to protect shock waves from traveling and causing more damage. The impact that causes a concussion has to be pretty hard it isn't something that can happen lightly it has to be a pretty hard hit,
Researchers made a mouth guard which decreases injuries around your face. Helmets are designed to prevent head injuries, such as concussions, skull fractures and brain injuries. Helmets have been proved to reduce the risk of head injuries. Helmets and mouth guard are designed to decrease the likelihood of head injuries from a direct impact to the head by scattering and dispensing the energy of impact
One helmet does not prevent a serious brain injury but when one does wear the proper equipment it reduces the chances of fatal injuries. Head trauma and concussions are more common than they should be, even in all levels of the game. Youth, highschool, and professional NFL players are all exposed and have a likely chance to hit their head and receive a concussion. The serious damage can impact the player’s life tremendously! Although in most cases studies have shown by the Institution of Medicine, which was funded by the NFL, that in most cases the concussion symptoms will cease in a matter of two weeks. In spite of most cases impacting the football player’s life for a short period of time, some victims are not as
Have you ever played a sport, that injured you or give you a concussion? Safety always comes first. Especially, when you're doing something that can get you an injury really easy. Having protective gear is important, mainly in sports. Some sports should have protective head gear. Protecting your head is important, and every part in it. Half of the sports are usually contact sports, which getting hurt in the head can be more of the chance, which is bad. As well, getting hurt in the head has many consequences which no one wants to have. Many athletes get concussions and it’s not good. 90 percent of the times, the person is conscious while having a concussion, the other 10 percent, there are unconscious. Therefore, protective head-gear
State and national motorcycle rights organizations are strong advocates of rider education and motorist awareness. I agree this is an important issue but not enough. The Journal of Trauma conducted a study to investigate motorcycle collisions with animals. Based on the results they concluded, “Deer Motorcycle Crashes (DMC) are a significant public health issue in mid-western states.” A deer darting in front of
1. Motorcycle helmet laws save lives: Death rates from head injuries, such as traumatic, are twice as high among motorcyclists in states without all-rider helmet laws. And motorcycle helmets are 37 percent effective in preventing motorcyclist deaths and 67 percent effective in preventing brain
3. On the other hand, motorcycle enthusiasts believe increased fatality rates are caused by the increased number of motorcyclists on the roads; however, the number of deaths has grown faster than the number of registered bikes (Wlazelek 1). Motorcycle fatalities have increased even after the increase in the number of bikers was accounted for. Helmets save lives and there is nothing that can change that fact. Riding 65 mph on an open bike with cars and trucks all around is dangerous in itself, so what is it hurting to take a little extra precaution not to end up dead or with severe brain damage. Fatality rates of motorcycle accidents were declining for two decades until the new law was passed and now they have increased dramatically (Berenson 2).
Many people think that to wear a helmet should a personal desition and should be not mandatory. After all, if harm is cause for not wearing a helmet, it will be a personal harm and no a general harm for society, “People have the right to chose their own poison” (Rosenstand, 255).
Helmets are made to keep expected impacts within the range of human brain tolerance. Helmets also can be very safe as they can be to not being safe; such as when getting hit it protects your face and your bare head does not receive the immediate impact, it could also be bad because the impact could possibly be too much to the point where it effects your brain. Making a helmet that keeps expected and unexpected impacts within the range of human brain tolerance would exceed the safety precautions.
If a universal helmet law were to be implemented in the State of Arizona, healthcare costs for the state would decrease. Since helmets aid in preventing motorcycle accident injuries and fatalities there would be a decrease in motorcycle responsible ailments and medical visits. Furthermore, in the event that a motorcycle injury were to occur it is likely that the injuries would be less severe and require less medical attention and intervention, thus reducing the costs of medical care each year.
A lot of states enforce laws considering obligatory to wear helmets for motorcycle riders. Such laws can be a decision making aspect in your ability to get settlement for against damages caused during a motorcycle accident. Settlement relies on your state's motorcycle helmet ruling, the type of your physical or motorcycle damages and on the fact that you were putting a helmet on your head in the accident or not.
Announcer Number 2: Brain damage is one of the most common injuries resulting from bicycle, motorcycle, and horseback riding accidents. Wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of such severe injuries. For example, over half of both motorcycle and horse-related deaths are due to injuries, but many of those injuries would not be nearly as harmful if a good helmet had been worn.
Motorcycle helmets are specially made and tested to prevent injuries from occurring to the driver’s skull, brain, and spinal cord. Many helmets are run through extensive testing to ensure that they are going to keep the motorcyclist safe in the event of a collision or slide (Wendling). According to a study, full face helmets, which surround the entire head and cover the face, reduced the risk of facial and skull fractures by almost half (Wendling). Helmeted
