This source features a report by Jill U. Adams on the dangers, and current regulations of air pollution and climate change. She has also been featured in the magazines Audubon, Scientific American and Science. Because this article covers climate change, there is an inherent liberal bias. However, this bias coincides with irrefutable scientific data proving the existence of climate change. The audience for this article is anyone effected by air pollution and climate change; just about everyone. This source upholds my speculation that human beings have a significant effect on the climate. Before reading this article, I wasn’t aware that 55 million people a year died from air pollution. Until the industrial revolution air pollution occurred only through natural causes and were of no great concern. However, industrial revolution which has made human power to dominate over the planet, has actually led man to dig his own grave. The western world has had as many as four industrial revolutions since 18th century also termed as “The Age of Smoke” (Kasa 2009). In the beginning the coal smoke was confined to a particular area but the concentrations of emissions increased as people began to migrate towards cities (Douglas et al. 2002). This led to continuous worsening of air quality and slow in decline public health conditions, but evidently, not enough to attract the attention of the lawmakers (Borja-aburto et al. 1996).

Air pollution such as black smoke caused health issues such as respiratory disease. Extreme example of air pollution like Pittsburgh had “people’s hands and faces were constantly grimy, clean collars quickly acquired a thin layer of soot”. Besides black smoke, animal waste was another essential result for air pollution. According to statistics, “the 15,000 horses in Rochester, New York, left enough waste in a year to cover an acre of land with a layer of 175 feet high”. These horrify numbers happened due to the blindly industrialization during the Gilded Age, and people allowed all of those waste and destruction to develop for their own benefits. Since human’s activity, pollution becomes a big problem in the world. There are a lot of part of pollutions include water pollution, light pollution and air pollution. Air pollution is happened in our life. The United States is also a victim of air pollution. In 1943, Los Angeles photochemical smog event occurred. The whole of Los Angeles was covered with smoke. There are about 400 people died and a lot of fruits in orchards began to wither.

Arizona is on the rise as one of the fastest metropolitan areas in the United States of America. In fact, in 2015 Forbes Magazine ranks Phoenix, Arizona as the 11th fastest growing city in the U.S.1 This growth is due the unprecedented resources and growing opportunities in the state of Arizona. With all of these opportunities come more production, which means more emissions from various industries and cars, more fossil fuels burned, and household and farming chemicals added to the sky. All of these are examples of pollution; which is one the sacrifices that comes with being a large city that is emerging. Pollution is defined as the action or process of making land, water, air, etc., dirty and not safe or suitable to use.2 We understand that Phoenix is a rapidly growing city, but they should be able to grow without being a detriment to the environment and health of their citizens. The purpose of my report is to examine the problem of air pollution in Phoenix, Arizona and look at solutions to fix this problem.

A controversy issue in the United States is whether or not we should be involved in the controlling international pollution. Pollution is problem world-wide. Many would like to be involved in pollution while others would not. I believe that the United States should not be involved in the controlling of international pollution.

Water Pollution has been an increasing problem over the last few years. Pollution comes from many different things; agricultural, urban runoff, industrial, sedimentary, animal wastes, and leeching from landfills/septic systems just to name a few (Resources). The reason why pollution has increased over the years is because the rise in population and the advancements in technology the society has made. If society plans on having their resources here for many years to come they are going to have to make some drastic changes in the way they treat the earth, and these changes will have to start with their pollutants (Foundation).

What are the problems with America currently today? One problem we have faced in America is environmental pollutions. Environmental pollutions are the harmful filth in the air, we breathe everyday. Perhaps we do not notice them as we breathe. Some filth is seen from a far distance. Factory filth is the main pollution producer in the USA now.

One of the reasons that cause air pollution in the United States is combustion of fossil fuels. United states known as the developed countries. For big countries, there will have many moving vehicles. Burning oil from fossil fuels such as diesel is burnt in moving vehicles cause air pollution. When the oil is burned, dangerous gases released into air and the environment. From that, if the people overuse of fossil fuel, its will kill the environment as dangerous gases are polluting the environment and harm the habitat. When burning these fuels in massive amounts, with neighboring factories also burning them, the impact on air quality is extreme. To many, black lung disease was a disease restricted solely to coal miners, but when coal is burned, many of the constituents of the coal become airborne to easily infect anyone's lungs. A study done in the nineteenth century indicated that cigarette smokers in a rural area close to Liverpool had a "nine times greater death rate from lung cancer than non-smokers, whereas in Liverpool, the ratio approached 1:1."1 The study also indicated a continually observed pattern of decreased health in urban areas. ‘Smog’ is the outcome of the combination of the words ‘smoke’ and ‘fog’. Photochemical smog is the most common throughout the United States in large cities and mainly consists of ozone located in the troposphere. Photochemical smog occurs when sunlight reacts with pollutants in the air released by factories and car exhaust emissions. Smog plays a major role in environmental and personal health issues such as low birth rate, respiratory irritation, reduction of lung function, aggravated asthma, chronic lung diseases, reduction of immune system effectiveness, photosynthesis reduction, and the possibility of ecosystem deterioration. Therefore, because of very high amounts of smog in major U.S. cities such as Los Angeles combined with its harmful effects, smog is the greatest ecological issue facing the U.S. today.

The environmental issue for my Milestone project is Air pollution. Air pollution is the introduction of particulates, biological molecules, and many harmful substances into Earth 's atmosphere, causing diseases, allergies, and death to humans, damage of other living organisms like animals and crops, or the natural environment (National Geographic, 2016). Georgia air pollution has been a focus for many years. Environmental protection Agency and Clean air act has been one of the main contributors to controlling environmental air pollution from increasing. The research is on scholars, chemicals and gases connected to air pollution and health hazards. Solution for Georgia is conserving, alternative energy and renewable resources.

Air is an indispensable part of human, animal and plant lives. Without it, no organisms would be able to survive on Earth (Reference, 2017). Due to excessive human activities, air pollution has become a detrimental worldwide issue in current days (Sciencing, 2017). However, scientists have found new chemicals that can assist in improving the air quality (Phys.org, 2017). Moreover, humans are able to adopt many methods to help decrease the severity of contamination released into the earth’s atmosphere. This investigation is linked to ‘application and limitation’ in ‘science as a Human Endeavour’.

Air is vital to our planet, life is simply impossible without it. Air pollution “refers to the contamination of the air, irrespective of indoors or outside. A physical, biological or chemical alteration to the air in the atmosphere can be termed as pollution. It occurs when any harmful gases, dust, smoke enters into the atmosphere and makes it difficult for plants, animals and humans to survive as the air becomes dirty.” (Jacobson, 2017) Air pollution has introduced countless negative effects to humans and the local environment. This paper identifies the main air pollutants and its possible causes in my community, comparing air quality with nearby communities and finally, evaluate how to help improve the air quality in the community,
