Air pollution causes an estimated 3.7 million deaths per year worldwide and 3000 deaths per year in Australia. Drawing on existing research on the health effects of air pollution, reports show that between 2005 and 2010, the number of deaths from air pollution in Australia jumped from 882 to 1483, representing a 68 percent rise.
