Everyone has encountered an individual in their life that that has greatly influenced them to be the person they are today. Some will find it is through direct family members, friends, or a public figure. In my own life, that individual is musician and poet Alex Turner. He has influenced me in a number of ways including; inspiring me to take writing seriously, introducing me to new literature, and teaching me the art of thinking before speaking.
My introduction to the work of Alex Turner not only invoked an emotional response out of me like no other artist had previously done, but also greatly inspired me to take my hobby of writing seriously. I vividly remember the day a friend of mine recommended I check out the band that Alex Turner fronts,

As a young, teenage girl my reading choices did not extend beyond romance novels by young adult authors. The assigned books or excerpts from my English classes did not interest me in the slightest or ignite any curiosity to move past that specific genre. However, when deciding to take a keener, more serious approach in writing, I became interested in expanded my knowledge in the literary world. Since my biggest source of inspiration is from Turner, the idea to venture out to observe what he read, and who he drew inspiration from came about. Luckily through various internet sources my questions and curiosity on the subject got answered. Through him came my introductions to Tom Wolfe, Scott Walker, and my personal favorite, John Cooper Clarke. Now the days of solely reading uninspiring works were lessening and a whole new world had been opened up to me. Poetry, genres that weren’t about love, and teens figuring out their lives piqued my interest more than before. Through those authors it gave me the chance to, not only expand my horizons, but get a better understanding in how Turner approached his own writing as you could clearly see a hint of similarities there. Without those suggestions, there is no doubt in my mind that I would not be as well read, or fully open to different literary genres as I am

The National Honors Society allows students to be build and create traits that are essential in a successful adult. I truly believe that hold many of these traits and joining the National Honor Society will grant me the opportunity to expand on these traits and grow as a person. Thus far I have focus greatly on the scholarship aspect of NHS and have been dedicated to my academics. I have held my GPA above 4.0 and have always been devoted to maintaining that high level of academic success. The skills I have shown in devoting myself to my academics can be easily translated into my dedication for the other aspects of leadership, service and character. Having previously held a officer role in the National Junior Honor Society I have gained experience
She does not understand why the older and well-known authors are not being read in high school. Prose uses a personal experience from her son’s sophomore English class. He had to read a “weeper and former bestseller by Judith Guest” (424), about a dysfunctional family dealing with a teenage son’s suicide attempt. “No instructor has ever asked my sons to read Alice Munro, who writes so lucidly and beautifully about the hypersensitivity that makes adolescence a hell,”(424). She again mentions books she approves of that should be read in English classes.

McDaniel College had first been created when its first building went up in 1866-1867. The school was the first institution that was south of the Mason-Dixon line and was coeducational. The first name that the school had was Western Maryland. That name originated because the institutions first board chairman (John Smith Wakefield) was president of the railroad, which had been called Western Maryland Railroad. The railroad had run through the college town. McDaniel had been one of forty colleges in the nation to be recognition in the New York Times education writer Loren Pope’s book, “Colleges That Change Lives” ("World Ranking Guide”). The schools colors are green and gold and the mascot is a Green Terror. There are about 1,629 students

There are four ingredients that make up the foundation for someone’s virtue. Without these factors combining together, either the individual’s foundation will be weak or it will eventually crumble and disintegrate. These ingredients include: honor, service, courage and leadership.
One particular activity that I feel has made a difference in the community is my participation in Mini-THON, a student-led philanthropic organization that raises money for research in pediatric cancer and benefits Four Diamonds and Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. I have served as the Junior and Senior Co-Chair, or President, for the past two years, respectively. Each year, my responsibilities have expanded from simply attending meetings and contributing ideas for fundraisers, to actively coordinating meetings and organizing fundraisers with local businesses. For example, our club held our first annual “Teenie-THON” for elementary school students. We spent countless hours creating advertisements and permission slips for the participants.

Because I do not participate in sports, I have always been purely dedicated to my schoolwork and getting exceptional grades. Being in the Honors Program at LLCC would not only continue by achievements in academic honors, but help me grow in my goals and plans for the future.
Most people would guess that a young teen like myself would be influenced the most by the hippest artist of today, the latest movie star, or maybe the team who designed the latest iPhone. Though they are very inspiring, I have been influenced by someone who is not in the twenty first century, yet his legacy and great contributions will go on for centuries. This individual is Charles Drew. Drew was an African American physician and medical researcher who made life changing developments in the medical field. He studied blood transfusions, developed effective techniques for blood storage, and applied his knowledge to develop a blood bank. Charles Drew is most inspiring to me because he was passionate, selfless, courageous, and stood
I believe that I am a good candidate for the Amy L. McKee-Everett Memorial Scholarship due to my caring and loving nature. An excellent example would be the time I gave back to Flat Rock River YMCA Camp this year, during New Years Eve. I volunteered as a counselor to a group of amazing girls. I wanted to volunteer my time, seeing that Flat Rock had done so much for me, in my seven years as a camper. It was time to give back. The 53 hours of time I spent helping out with all the girls, was immensely rewarding. I wouldn't trade my experiences I have had with Flat Rock River YMCA Camp for the world. This experience made me a better person, and will carry over into my undergraduate years of college. I am going into my freshman year bearing skills
Do you have someone you know that is a great influence on you? Horace Mann was a great American educator. He felt like the kids who were there were his.
Jamie Turner and Pat Cardullo of Modern Lighting Industries, Inc need to recognize and address their interpersonal issues that have created a disconnect between them and throughout the whole MLI workforce.
Over time, there have been several people who have influenced various aspects of my life, based on their personal characteristics, accomplishments, and values. I have been privileged to have had numerous teachers and professors who I respect for their patience and intelligence. There are artists that have inspired me by their natural talents and original creativity. I value many political leaders, who have inspired me by their contributions to society, and their ability to change our futures. Of all the people I have encountered in my life, the person I admire most is my father.
