Allies, everyone has one or more in their life. Without them we would not have the motivation and help we need to pass through certain situation, or even through our everyday lives. My ally is my coach, Coach Josh. He coaches hockey all the way in Rockford. He was my first official coach on my first official team which would make this a pretty memorable team. The main reason he coaches hockey was that his sons played hockey, so he decided to volunteer to coach for the Junior Rockford IceHogs teams. He is also a big hockey fanatic which is another reason he would coach hockey. Without Coach Josh, my teammates and I would have not had the motivation to keep going and to not give up on our goal. It was Sunday, March 10, 2016, it was our team's
For Canadians, it's difficult to fathom a culture in which hockey is not a defining characteristic, considering it is so inextricably tied to our own culture. This ethnocentric view leads to the assumption that because Canadian television sets and newspapers are dominated by hockey reporting so too should be the case in the United States. Yet while Canadians treat hockey with an almost religious reverence, Americans have never had the same affinity and as such hockey is of little import as a cultural symbol. Furthermore, had a cultural relativistic approach been applied, objectively evaluating what to Canadians is a glaring oversight, the sports network's complete lack of coverage would have resulted in the conclusion it is neither remarkable
When I went to Pike High School I participated in an activity called color guard for four years. Color guard is a performing arts activity that incorporates dance while using flags, rifles, and sabers. When I began this activity I barely understood what I was getting myself into. Our team got abandoned by our coach for most of the winter season my freshman year, so our show was pretty awful. We went to competitions with expectations of losing and embarrassment among our peers. At this point everyone was discouraged about how our winter season ended. It was not far to the seniors who gave their whole high school years for this activity. Something had to be changed to in order for our team to progress in the future. Second semester our guard Director, Mr. Emmert, hired Nick Bledsoe as our new coach. Though he was a skinny short white guy with blond hair something about him was intimidating. He walked into the guard room like he owned the place. He sat up with such a great posture that I straightened up from my usual slouch. The seniors did not like Nick too much, but their only wish for him was to not give up on us. From that day forward Nick dedicated his work towards our team regardless of how challenging it was to manage. My guard coach Nick was amazing because of how passionate he was about his profession at my high school.
Fighting has been a part of the NHL since 1922 and it has had a huge impact on the game of hockey and the sport wouldn't be the same without it. There are a lot of injuries involved with fighting but if fighting wasn’t in pro hockey then there would probably be a lot more injuries. Some players would be more chippy and run at people and get away with it without facing the consequences for it. Fighting also has a key part in motivating a team if they aren’t playing well.
Last year I played on the best hockey team that I have ever played on. I played for the Waukesha warhawks. Our team wasn’t just good on the ice, but off the ice as well. Every single person on the team got along with each other. Since we all were good friends, that built a connection for our team while we were on the ice. Everyone knew how everyone played and everyone had eachothers back.
My team is my family. My coaches are like my parents and my teammates like my sisters. We've grown up together, seen each other through the good and the bad, gone through all the blood sweat and tears, and been there when needing a cry or a laugh. No matter what kind of a day I am having, I go to practice and they just make everything better. My coaches are always there to give me advice and be a second parent towards me. We are like a small community who in our heads just assume we're somehow related and God just forgot to make it official.
Since my freshman year I’ve lived and experienced the benefit of collaboration. Both my high school and club coaches have always expressed the importance and the need to collaborate with teammates on and off the court. This was especially key my junior year. The Jserra Catholic high school basketball team I joined that year after transferring from Northwood was facing
“Jason what happened to you the last game?” he asked as I sat there still in a funk and not showing any signs of positive energy. I didn’t know how to respond and he saw the look of self-disappointment I had in my eyes. “Being the captain doesn’t mean you have to hit 20 homeruns and strike out 100 batters” my coach told me as I sat there still unmotivated. He continued to explain the expectations he had for me going forward. His words started to resonate with me and gave me a better understanding of what it takes to be a leader. “It’s not always what you do on the field but how you carry yourself off of the field having positive energy even during a slump that makes a leader a great one.” This quote from my coach is still relevant in my life today as I continue to become a better leader in the
I owe much to youth coaches like Pat who taught me the game and improved my skills. Pat helped me develop and sustain an interest in the game and encouraged me to follow my dreams. As an adult , I have a strong appreciation of what Pat did for me at that time and his inspiration moved me down a career path that has seen me play
By the time you have reached 50 years of age, you will have walked approximately 75,000 miles, that's a lot of walking! Now think of what that number would be if you added running, swimming, skating, or any other workout. A fit lifestyle is having a balance of exercise and eating healthy. My fitness goals are to be able to be in shape for hockey season and for the summer.
The Chicago Blackhawks, along with their star player, Patrick Kane, entered a game against the Florida Panthers on February 24, 2015, searching to secure a spot in the Playoffs by overcoming their close competitor, the St. Louis Blues. At that time, the NHL team was undergoing a nadir, losing five of their last seven games. The mid-season triumph was necessary to continue a streak that would drive the team to the top of the standings. The Blackhawks may have won that crucial game against the Panthers 3-2 in a shoot-out, but this win did not come without consequences. The Blackhawks lost their second-line right winger, Patrick Kane, who was tied for the NHL lead with 64 points: 27 goals and 37 assists this season.
Fighting in NHL games is pretty common. Injuries as a result of those fights also happen, but things did not go quite as planned for the Anaheim Ducks' Kevin Bieksa when he had a one-punch takedown of Radko Gudas of the Philadelphia Flyers on October 24. Bieksa had so much momentum behind his punch that after Gudas fell, Bieksa landed on top of him. While many people who saw the impressive punch might assume that Gudas would be the player who would suffer a lasting injury as a result of the fight, it is actually Bieksa who will be unable to play for a while.
I'm a loner, I have never had a best friend, but you could call these two people friends of mine. Skyler Robbins and Drake Steinbrock. I try to know little about people, but these two I know a moderate amount about them.
L Now with a booming economy, and a society with the want and need to grow Canada has the resources and the money to focus on the concept of developing technology that could help in furthering the development of the country and the nation. First and foremost the most important technology that was developed during this time period, was that of electricity available for everyone from all classes. It was soon apparent that all classes could afford basic electricity, to light up, and warm up their homes. This of course, was also a big win for hockey, because rink owners began introducing electricity powered functions to their rinks. This, although small, revolutionized the act of viewing a hockey game; spending your leisure money on viewing a hockey
They are your best friend. You want to speak to them even when you’re too worked up to speak to anyone at all. You can talk to them with ease and share anything that’s on your mind- The good and the bad- and you know they’ll be there to listen, and support you. You never feel like they aren’t listening to you, even when you’re in a fight.
For every person that exists, there is at least one other person with whom they will laugh with, love with, and live life with. These are the people who will support the decisions you make, encourage you to keep going after massive failures and love you despite all your flaws. We cherish the relationships we build and the friendships we have because without friends, we would be alone.
