The Emperor’s Wrath woke up in a cold sweat, the droplets falling off her face and onto her bed, mixing with her tears streaming down her cheeks. The images of her nightmare were flashing before her eyes, showing her the same thing over and over again. She felt the screams as if it just had happened even though it months had passed. The screams that crawled under her skin, that picked at her, reminded her. Reminded her of how she wasn’t good enough. She wanted to pick at them, at her skin, pick at them until they left her and gave her peace. But she knew that they weren’t there, they weren’t picking at her or taunting her, they were just her nightmares. Nothing will harm her here. ‘Safe’ she thought, ‘I’m safe’. Her sheets were damp and her hair stuck to her skin, glistening in all its smooth and pale glory. She …show more content…
Their place was in her dreams where they could only hurt her in her sleep and in her memories. What they did to her was just a dream, a nightmare, nothing real. It would never happen again, she wouldn’t let it. Everything she saw in her sleep was nothing more than a figment of her memories. The pain they brought to her and the lives they took was all in the past. Nothing to cry over. But they were not what made her awake from her restless slumber. He did. What she dreamt he did would haunt her dreams forever. She felt it all, the force screaming out at her, trying to warn her before she was assaulted by the draining feeling that came from below her. She felt it as millions of voices just stopped. She felt it when the life below her ceased to exist. She saw it too, she saw what he did and she felt it rush through her. She saw the death, no, the nothingness rip through her people, and she screamed along with them. She screamed until her voice turned raw and until the empty feeling subsided. She failed them and as a result, she would suffer with them. A small price to pay for what has

I would change the ending because it wasn’t really satisfying. Evie was cured of TB and that was that she got to go home. All I could think about was Sarah, what would happen to her? For all we know she could die there or worse find out she is Jewish. This was a bad time to be Jewish, during the Holocaust when they would not take them into hospitals unless they lied. The way I would have changed the ending seems much better to me. I would have had Sarah go home with Evie. The reason I would have this happen is because Sarah was recently getting better after she was getting treatment from the doctors. So why not you might ask because Sarah wasn’t fully healed. She needed more time to heal. So I guess the ending wasn’t the worst, but it could
Julie Otsuka’s novel When the Emperor was Divine leads the reader through the journey of one family that represents many as they are placed in an internment camp for the crime of being Japanese. Otsuka brings to light the persecution of Japanese-Americans through her use of symbols prominent throughout the book. Some of the most important being the symbol of stains, their family dog, and horses. Each has a double-meaning pointing towards the theme of widespread racism. Racism that led many Japanese-Americans into believing that they were guilty.
Murder is defined as “the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another,” (Dictionary.com). Through this definition, Emperor Nero, like many emperors before and after him, can be seen as a murderer. In, The Annals of Imperial Rome, written by Cornelius Tacitus, the story of Nero is documented. This story includes the tale of his premeditated murder of his mother, Agrippina the Younger. Nero, though many recall him being ill of mind or in many ways even crazy, had, in his mind, many reasons why this was a smart decision. Agrippina’s quest for increased political power, her tendency to make decisions on his behalf without first consulting him as well as her threatening to overthrow him have been linked to being the reasons that Nero decided to kill his mother. These reasons provided enough of an incentive to Nero to place an order of execution upon the head of his mother, as chronicled in Tacitus’ ancient document.

I disagree with a child’s whole future resting on just one test. That puts so much pressure on children to do well at such a young age. I can see why children get depressed, if
The naval officer took all the boys that were on the island to the ship. One by one they got on the ship and sat down quietly. Most of them thought about the things that happen on the island like what happen to Piggy and Simon and the littlun with a mulberry-colored mark on his face. Others thought about what they were going to do when they got home with their families and how their families were going to react. Ralph thought about his friend, Piggy, and how he got killed. Jack thought about his mom and what would happen if she knew what he did on the island. Everyone’s faces seemed shocked by the news that they were rescued. Ralph seem like he wanted to say something, but he was too shocked to even say a word. The naval officer asked the littluns what their name was but some of them did not even remember their names not even Percival.
“I will never forget the shocking feeling that human beings were behind this fence like animals. And we were going to also lose our freedom and walk inside of that gate and find ourselves…cooped up there…when the gates were shut, we knew that we had lost something that was very precious; that we were no longer free," said Mary Tsukamoto, a survivor of the internment camps and now a Japanese American educator. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the government made the decision to relocate all of the Japanese Americans to internment camps as it was said they were disloyal and would betray the United States. In the Internment camps the internees were put through horrendous condition and were forced to leave everything behind and under the circumstance some individuals had psychological issues.
James J. O’Donnell’s book The Ruin of the Roman Empire, a so called “new history” with the tagline of “The Emperor Who Brought It Down, The Barbarians Who Could Have Saved It” seems to set a high bar saying he knows exactly who killed the Roman empire and has evidence to support that (O’Donnell). Looking at the tagline on the front of the book talking about “The Emperor Who Brought It Down”, it led me to believe starting the book that one leader just messed up tremendously but as I read through the book I started to see and believe that the threads of Rome’s downfall started much earlier (O’Donnell). I think that O’Donnell believed that the reign under Theodoric, Justinian and Justin are vital to the downfall of Rome in their ignoring of the
I would shut my eyes because I knew what was coming. And before I shut my eyes, I held my breath, like a swimmer ready to dive into a deep ocean. I could never watch when his hands came toward me; I only patiently waited for the harsh sound of the strike. I would always remember his eyes right before I closed my own: pupils wide with rage, cold, and dark eyebrows clenched with hate. When it finally came, I never knew which fist hit me first, or which blow sent me to my knees because I could not bring myself to open my eyes. They were closed because I didn’t want to see what he had promised he would never do again. In the darkness of my mind, I could escape to a paradise where he would never reach me. I would find again the haven where I
One of the main advantages Wellington had was the information that he received about the French attacking at Waterloo. Wellington was able to be much more prepared than Napoleon would have been expecting. An alternate ending that would lead to the French winning the battle would be Napoleon stopping the information reaching Wellington. If Napoleon had spies and scouts deployed throughout the land performing reconnaissance on Wellington's Army during the Waterloo campaign. Every time Wellington's Army sent out soldiers to collect and receive information, the French spies and scouts would intercept the information and either change it or keep it to themselves. Napoleon than would realize that Wellington's Army could know about
Scuttling innocently through the twisting corridors I bore the same expression; head down, shoulders hunched, avoiding any eye contact - my desperate attempts to deter the despot for one day at least. Despite my efforts, there was no escape, as seemingly within the second of having that naively optimistic thought, a cruel, callous voice demanded I surrender my broach. Fear spiked, as it always did, but with it came something else, an alien emotion ... Looking back now, I see that it must have been the cumulative effect of months of torment that brought me to the realisation that at this point I had reached the nadir of my life. Deriding cackles pierced my ears and this time I recognised the emotion, fury. It burned through my veins, along with the memories of the past to form a feeling of overwhelming power. I met the daggers that would usually invoke terror, and calmly, I said “No.”
The reason for this reflection is to review what has happened in a deeper level than just summarizing what has happened over the course of this project. During the weeks learned some things, not just from the book that I was reading, but also from participating in a group. The lessons I learned led to my group being successful in the few goals that were created. All of the goals were met in different ways whether it would be just finishing the book or us getting up in front of the whole class to present the google slides that we created.
“The Last Emperor” was a very interesting film, rich in historical truth and an accurate portrayal of past events that occurred in China during the 1900s. The story was very easy to follow and gave a more modernized approach to teaching the impacts of historical proceedings by using the English language but not forgetting to keep the facts in order. This approach gave me the opportunity to see the different actors as if it were truly identical to what this time period was all about. Given that the plot was centralized around Puyi, the last Emperor of China, and the director did an excellent job making the movie fit the timeline.
