Another key way to become an adaptive leader is to have a Deliberate Development Plan. We all need goals. Developing a deliberate plan for those you influence will keep them motivated and goal focused knowing that someone is interested in seeing them succeed. It also allows you to create milestones and monitor the effectiveness of the plan. Personally, I have negatively and positively been effected by development plans. I did not have the supervision to create a plan for my career as a young airman. Therefore, I took it upon myself to review others’ career moves and developed a plan for myself to execute. However, if you are not intentional in reviewing an individual’s strengths and weaknesses and then adjusting and creating a plan for
This is one of the most important steps in being a leader. Leading a group to a destination is apart of being a leader. Formulating a plan gives direction. I would implement this by getting to a quite place and actually think about what my gift are to the world? Who do I really want to be and what is my passion? I love being able to help people solve their problems. Through accounting, I can assist clients with their accounting issues. I would have to have a strategy and goals of how to reach my destination. Right now, I have calendars and dry erase boards in my office to help remind and assist me in staying en route of my goals. Sometimes I might fall a little shy of my goals, but I should encourage myself to not get discourage and surround myself with positive people that are going to help me reach my goals.
Having a Personal Development plan can help you to plan and improve your personal development
Nurses serve as an advocate for the advancement of the profession of nursing, whether the novice nurse or the advanced practice nurse. Sommerfeldt (2013) found that novice nurses when asked to describe nursing, responded with “care for clients” to be a common answer. This vague answer excludes the professional contribution of nurses and the roles advance practice nurses performs in team health care. The focus of this paper will address the barriers for autonomous advanced nursing practice and the use of interactive leadership style to advocate for legislative changes and promote the entry level degree Consensus Model (2010) for advanced practice nurses.
According to Bruce Avolio, “What we have clearly learned is that leaders who can balance transactional and transformational leadership across time, situations, and challenges are the most effective” (Avolio 2011, 49). “People have a greater sense of ownership at the highest levels in terms of identification and are willing to provide the extra effort needed to succeed” (Avolio 2011, 49). Yet, Rusty Ricketson wrote, “Those who embrace the followerfirst perspective are not dependent on titles or positions in order to gain a sense of identity and worth. They understand that good leaders are good followers” (Ricketson 2014, 197). Although Avolio supports Full Range Leadership and Ricketson support Following-Leaders there are both
During module 5: Adaptable Leader, I found that the most important concept was dispositional flexibility. According to our required reading in module 5, dispositional flexibility is defined as a leader that shows a level of optimism but still keeps a realistic perspective. This means that during a bad situation, they can still find a positive outcome from the situation. This concept is most important to me because I truly believe a leader should always strive to promote the best situation out of any situation. As leaders, we are seen as the example. I believe that if I have a positive attitude it will transfer over to others and change the overall mood of everyone.
In Australia, over the past decade, there has been extensive and unprecedented change in the business environment. There is every indication that the pace of change will intensify during this decade. Managers therefore have taken quite correctly the view that there is only one constant in business, and that is change.
This short paper examines effective leadership. Effective leadership may be outlined in many ways. Although exposed to several different leadership styles, I find that I respond best to a leader who believes in the works and theories of Confucius. According to Fernandez, the Confucian leadership system believes that leadership is an emergent quality of the character that radiates and makes others want to follow, based on the respect and trust the leader generates (Fernandez, 2010). I believe the new president at the law school in which I am employed, exemplifies and leads the institution under these same philosophies. Conscientiously or not, the new president works and follows the Confucian path of leadership.
Leadership is a process of continuous learning and increasing leadership effectiveness requires understanding, reflection, and the application to the appropriate subject matter. To become an effective leader, one should strive to enhance their skills and abilities associated with applying new data, information, and ideas objectively and subjectively. Even though everyone in the world has in their possession some sort of leadership characteristics and attributes, not everybody is set out to make the necessary sacrifices it takes to become a truly effective leader. Utilizing authentic leadership practices entails learning how to be true to yourself and others. An essential element facilitating meaningful leadership is trust. Influential risks, changes, and challenges will inevitably occur throughout the various stages of life. According to Erik Erikson, human life stages comprise of infancy, early childhood, play age, school age, adolescence, young adulthood, adulthood, and old age (Armstrong, 2012). This paper’s objectives include revealing several moments in life where challenges to leadership occurred, predominantly focused on the adolescence, young adulthood, and adult stages in life. The paper highlights specific instances in life where leadership challenges became noticeably obvious, influencing various personal and professional motivational elements. Life is full of challenges, highlighting previously endured leadership examples helps to recognize and learn
Some researchers address leaders based on leading individuals, some according to leading a team, while others focus only on specific leadership theories practiced in an organizational environment (Yukl, 2012). Leadership processes and practices have an impact (positively or negatively) on the work habits and performance of individuals, teams, and an organization as a whole. According to Mætrîx (n.d.a), an individual’s ability to effectively lead can be grouped into three major categories; technical qualifications, cognitive abilities, and emotional intelligence (EI). Regardless of how well-developed an individual’s leadership skills appear to be, there is always room for improvement. One approach that a leader can take
Having often heard phrases like “leaders are born, not made” or “she is a natural leader,” led me to believe that leadership is a natural occurring quality, a quality one must clearly be born with. Early on in my military career, I came to realize that leaders can indeed be molded, they can learn to lead and do not necessarily have to be born with said quality. Throughout history many individuals have been branded as leaders for their ability to influence history itself. However, not all influential leaders have been written into the pages of history and some are still actively influencing the world around them.
A successful leader to me, motivates others to achieve their full potential, leads by example and is influential to their team. Memorable leaders all possess these key qualities, whether innate or learned, and when combined correctly, can help to facilitate successful leadership. Even if a great leader innately has these qualities, leadership skills can also be further developed and gained through building up confidence, through practice and through experience. In this Chapter I will explore my Area of Learning as leadership in health care. I define as leadership as an art, the ability to adopt different leadership styles depending on the situation, being an effective leader during a crisis and communicating effectively. This chapter will elaborate on how I came to learn about this AOL from my experiences working as a team lead as I pursue my bachelor’s in health studies.

"I have three precious things which I hold fast and prize. The first is gentleness; the second is frugality; the third is humility, which keeps me from putting myself before others. Be gentle and you can be bold; be frugal and you can be liberal; avoid putting yourself before others and you can become a leader among men (women)."(Tzu, L.) (Haden, 2014) This is a very statement and speaks volumes; whether you’re an educational teacher, a supervisor or a CEO of a company. If you can incorporate all of these ideas into your leadership style; you will have the ability to create a team that will succeed.

What or who comes to mind when you think about leadership? What is leadership? Leadership is defined as the action of leading a group or an organization. Leadership is not just about leading; it is about being able to lead even with the greatest of adversaries throwing everything they can at you and still being able to succeed as a great leader. When I think about leadership only one man comes to mind, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Jesus of Nazareth was an extremely important figure in the Christian religion, he is believed to be God himself in human form. He is also considered to be one of the greatest leaders in history even after his death. Jesus Christ was a great leader because of ability to speak to people, his ability to unite people in the darkest of times, and a great teacher as well as leader so that he could leave an incomparable legacy far beyond his death.
