In Ezra 3:2 the spiritual leadership of Israel seem to come from Jeshua and his fellow priests, as well Zerubbabel. These men built an altar to the God of Israel, and they offer burnt offerings on it, as it is commanded in the Torah. Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the other priest look to the scripture to guide their reconstitution of their relationship with God. Nehemiah and Ezra used the scripture in a way that I believe the leadership of the church should do today. Church leadership must follow the scripture and its message. Yes, we can adapt it to the social sitting today, but we cannot alter its divine message.
The greatest leadership quality of Nehemiah is seen and Nehemiah 1:4 where Nehemiah was continually fasting and praying to the Lord. In Esther 4:15-17 Esther commands that all the Jews in Susa and the ladies under her charge in the king 's harem will fast. Even though this verse doesn 't mention prayer I believe it was implied, because of what is recorded in Esther 9:31. In Esther 9:31 it mentions laments, and laments generally includes a call to God in the form of a prayer. I think it 's a great quality for a church leader to have Nehemiah and Esther’s habits of always turning to the Lord in prayer and fasting before beginning any large undertaking inside or outside the house of the Lord.
I see another great leadership quality which is found in Nehemiah 4:16 where it says that, “the leaders stood behind the whole house of Judah” (ESV). This is a reminder that the
When I think about leadership, Matthew 26:36-45 always comes to my mind. In this passage, Jesus unpacked the roles and responsibilities of a true leader. A true leader leads by sample without looking back. The scripture states, “…My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little further, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed…. Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.
Nehemiah and Ezra were instrumental in trying to persuade the people back to the teachings of God. “God’s work demands all that we have, and sometimes challenges us to go beyond what we think we are capable of doing” (Arnold & Beyer, 2008, p. 266).They uplifted their spirits by providing them the covenant laws of Moses and helping them rebuild the temple. “Now the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple servants and all those who had separated themselves from the peoples of the
The other quality of a leader that I exhibit is hard work and dedication. I do my best to make each assignment or activity I do the best it can possibly be. I only ever miss school, practice or work if I have no other option available to me, and when I do miss, I try to make up my work as quickly as I can. I use the drive that I have in school, swim, and work to strengthen my leadership qualities.
Leadership is something that people are born with. It is an inherent charm and it doesn’t hide even if you want to hide it. There is a leader amongst us and he or she is the one that leads other people to great things by inspiring and motivating people to do good deeds. Leadership has been described as “a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”. This way a leader can decide what work goes in and goes out. Good leaders in history have left a mark in walks of life. But great leaders, they’re different. Great leaders have the ability to make each and every individual re-think their life decisions and choices by
David is a prime example of one who uses directive leadership. He showed this when he decided that he wanted Bathsheba for himself even though she was married. On the eve of her husband?s death, David sent this message to his first in command Joab. ?Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die,? 2 Samuel 11:14. He did this because he knew that he had the power and no one could stop him. To make this more ironic, the message was brought by Uriah, no knowing that would be his last day alive. This
In Judaism, there are many church leaders, in total there are seven leaders. These seven leaders are the rabbis, chazans, gabbais, koheins, levis, rebbes, and tzaddiks. Rabbis, on the contrary of what everyone believes, is only a teacher and does not have any more authority to perform a religious ritual than any other Jewish man. A rabbi is highly educated in the Jewish law and tradition to teach the community. A rabbi is also able to answer questions and resolve disputes that involves the Jewish law. However since the destruction of the Temple, many rabbi have taken over spiritual rituals due to the decrease of the koheins role. A chazan is someone who leads the whole congregation into a prayer. In addition, because music plays a large role
The examination of servant leadership has been well documented since the days of the Bible. The Bible tells us about some of the most influential and some of the most heinous leaders throughout its scripture. Through its teachings, the Bible also tells us how to deal with the most difficult leaders and is well-stocked with different mechanisms to do so. One of the most prominent servant leaders is Nehemiah, from the book of Nehemiah. In Nehemiah 4:22-23, Nehemiah demonstrates that he will stand side-by-side with those he was leading in their efforts. He was servant to his earthly king, and he becomes a servant in leading the people of his true King. We are all building a structure in our own lives. There are times when our efforts crumble and
The display of leadership requires some great qualities that will project any individual to be highly acceptable by the follower. These qualities are good communication, honesty, appealing, wisdom, focus, delegation and faithfulness. Moreover, the book of Nehemiah described the role Nehemiah and the emperor regarding the rebuilding of Jerusalem, he displayed effective communication with the Emperor, then plan all his network and get all the material needs before embarking on the trip.

There are many core attributes of being an active biblical leader. According to Brent Rinehart, there are nine essential qualities of a Godly leader. A good leader is modest, not arrogant. There is always that one person who thinks they know it all or they
“Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others.” John Maxwell. Not everyone is equipped to be a leader. Great leaders have the ability to establish a set direction and principles to guide their companies in an efficient way. It is believed that certain people possess traits that make them good leaders and researcher focus in personality, social, physical, or intellectual qualities that would identify them as leaders from the rest of the people. A few ideas have been developed over the years in the effort of define leadership. One of this is the Fiedler contingency model and Hersey and Blanchard’s Situation Theory. One of the situations that comes to mind is the story found in the Bible about Joshua when he was selected to spy the land of Canaan, and return to report on what was found, the land flowed with milk and honey. While others may only see problems before it true leaders can see possibilities and endure the opposition until they see an open door.
The New Testament leaders are an example of how church leaders of today should also behave and work[8]. They ought to be able to teach, guide the believers in the way of God and nurture their spiritual gifts. The New Testament leaders had to boldly defend the word of God in case of any false teaching. Basing on this New Testament leadership, it is important to make sure that any believer appointed to the leadership office has the laid down qualifications[9].
“Leadership is influencing others by your character, humility, and example. It is recognizable when others follow in word and deed without obligation or coercion”.( Sonny Newman, president of contract manufacturer EE Technologies)
Denis Waitley (1995) in his book, Empire of the Mind, encourages the reader to explore his/her beliefs on leadership. He asks the reader to be cognizant of how these beliefs manifest themselves in our lives, by stating, "What the mind harbors, the body manifests in some way" (p. 119). My beliefs about leadership are shaped by my experiences with my father. I have compiled a list of good leadership qualities from watching him interact with others over the years.
