Song lyrics are the creative use of language in a rhythmic sense. The use of this creative language was created by humans for humans for a specific person to allow us to see things differently then we usually would. We find that in the lyrics of the song, that there is figurative language like that in poetry. There is room in the lyrics of the song for symbolism, imagery and ambiguity. The song expresses the thoughts and feelings of the writer of the song and allows them to represent life how they see. They use things in their life that people can relate to on some level. They can be seen as reflections of the society and culture in which they were written in. The songs are reflections of the writer. In “Lego House” and “The A Team”, Ed Sheeran represents life in how it has its ups and down. It shows that life is messy and complicated but we can get through it. He wanted to convey that life is messy and complicated but beautiful. In the early 2000s, drugs and homelessness were major problems in Britain. The use of these illegal drugs spread from the late ninety 's to the early 2000 's (Berridge, Virginia). The most popular drugs in this time were marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, and heroine (Berridge, Virginia). The majority of the people that used these drugs are in their teens to early twenties (Berridge, Virginia). These drugs were also associated with homeless people (Summerskill, Ben). It is said that four out of five homeless people were regular drug users in Britain
This song represents the talents that i have and what I have that we call determination. the song is fun and addicting for the whole family and more. Talent is tricky subject to get into, because this can go into many categories. I don't have many talents, but i get by and get the job done. In oak hill high school i was a silent and did not interact with anyone during class and man did i have bad acne. That's in the past and I grew confidence and i'm a manager at kfc. So things are not bad as their were back in the day when i was young and free. That's not the subject at hand, talents are really helpful and can entertain for years to come. Having no talent would make a person into that business guy that nobody likes. I mean nobody wants to be left out (except emos). The artist artist 009 sound system can be a good contender on what a person wants to be when the grow up and goto college” You can do anything you want to” that phrase helps represents the talent of adapting which I found out to be the most helpful to me. anyways talent can be a major part of like and should be taken seriously one day that talent can get that job the everyone else
The lyrics of a song often have no substance and a clear example would be any Britney Spears song. The lyrics of “All Falls Down” are very deep. They talk about the ideal situation in life; We should go to school, get a good job and make money to buy what we want. The lyrics then ask, what if this doesn’t happen? This is prevalent in the first verse. “She has no idea what she doing in college. That major that she majoring, it don’t make no money.” The song questions these everyday values because we focus so much on these things, we don’t realize there are more important things in life such as life itself. Even Kanye admits that he spent money at Jacob’s Jewellery store before he thought about a house. “I went to Jacob with
Listening to the lyrics of your favorite song you automatically start to have a connection with that song. Then the song starts to represent you and your life because of the lyrics. Some songs show about being a fighter, having freedom, or just being you. There's a billion of songs out there and there's a billion of people who connect with those songs. Usually the most common reason why some songs represent people is by their past experience. For me some songs represent me because I decided to follow my dreams, living in the moment, and get right back up.
Besides this, many people are concerned because of the influx of hard drugs, especially heroin, to the mainstream rather than being hidden in the poverty-stricken inner cities. In recent years, crack, cocaine, and heroin have been more prevelant than ever, especially among the wealthy. Drugs are no longer something that only gang members and bad guys do, everybody is doing them. (Inciardi 1999)
This policy was enforced because a statistic was made; that between 2011 and 2012, an estimated 8.9% of adults used an illegal drug. And 19.3% of young people aged between 16 and 24 also used an illegal drug. Drug misuse has a negative effect on the health, wellbeing and quality of life of too many people. It also drains public resources. Crimes related to drugs cost the UK £13.3 billion every year.
Particular words he chooses throughout the song, like "Indigos" (18), have symbolism attached to them. He metaphorically describes
fact, 63% of you stated in my survey that you had smoked marijuana in the past.
Substance abuse is known through most populations, particularly acknowledged in the lower economic class. Drug are becoming more popular in this day in time. Drugs are getting the attention of younger teenagers and adults. It is hard to determine if a person is using drugs or not. Substance abuse is a topic that has been spread in the society and is often look upon as the leftover of an inconsiderate acquisitiveness. As you can see on the news more parents are using heroin and other drugs such as cocaine to get a high and will pass out in front of their children. Therefore, heroin and synthetic opioids are driving a recent increase in cocaine-related abuse.
Illegal drugs not only harm the health of those who misuse them, they also hurt their families, children and friends. The crime and antisocial behaviour associated with drugs cause misery to the victims, and puts enormous pressure on the economy’ (NHS breaking the link, 2009, pg 6).
This new dynamic was seen initially in 1971 by the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA) spearheaded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The survey indicated that many illegal drug users were employed full or part time. The initial survey was used to try and understand the scope of the problem,
Since the early 1960’s there have been an alarming increase in drug use in the United States in 1962, four million Americans had tried an illegal drug. By 1999, that number had risen to a staggering 88.7 million, according to the 1999 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse.
He begins the track by mentioning acquisitiveness and materialism while singing about the girls who wish to have “Nikes” and “needs a ring like Carmelo,” so they are desperately “looking for a check.” The lyric “All you want is Nikes” also refers to the materialistic mentality of young kids today who use high-end brands as a status symbol and fashion trends. Ocean also touched upon a boy named Trayvon Martin singing “R.I.P. Trayvon that n*gga look just like me.” Trayvon was a teen that was fatally shot while reaching for a bag of Skittles in his pocket. This part addresses the racial injustices that still exist and is occurring on a daily basis. Another song called “Solo” is another favorite song of mine. “Solo” is sung through the perspective of a solitary artist. In this chorus where he said “in hell, inhale, there are heaven” ties in with the theme of his drug usage. At times, Ocean considered drugs as a way to escape reality and the problems surrounding him. Furthermore, this song signifies the beauty of being in solitary and encourages those to not find misery in being alone but use this opportunity to find yourself. The simplicity of the instrumentation and production, consisting of only has an organ and Ocean’s voice, truly depicts the overall theme of this song. Last of all, “Ivy” is a song about the reminiscence of your first love. Young love, a love where there were no worries or limits. However, fleeting it was bound to happen during a certain time in your life. But just like the ivy plant, you will discover growth and maturity that wouldn’t be made possible if you did not encounter your first heartbreak. The production of each song gives the album a very unique and interesting feature. Certain songs seem to have altered voices while some maintained Ocean’s normal voice. Since each song varied in productions, this allows the audience to
The second song I analyzed was “Paradise” by Coldplay. Similarly to “Kids”, the song “Paradise” starts with the idea of childhood. “When she was just a girl she expected the world. But it flew away from her reach so she ran away in her sleep and dreamed of paradise” is the opening verse for this tune. It talks of a young girl with big dreams expecting the world. As the girl in the song grows up she finds that life is not as simple as she believed. “Life goes on, it gets so heavy. The wheel breaks the butterfly. Every tear a waterfall. In the night the stormy night she'll close her eyes.” Those lyrics are a good example of how life has some downs, tears, and storms, but it talks of how the girl stays positive when the song says, “She’d say, ‘I know the sun must set to rise.’” I think this song is a good reflection of me. I have big dreams for myself, but as life goes on I go through some bumps in the road. I have encountered many of my own stormy nights, but I know the sun will rise to a clearer and brighter day in time. I have learned not to expect things to be handed to me, but to chase after my dreams, and my own perfect paradise to a path of success.
Probably more disturbingly, 73% of the 1000 sixth formers asked, had been offered drugs. 80% of the people who had taken cannabis did so because of the ‘buzz’ they received. That is to say that they took the drug because it was illegal, and had a certain risk element. If the drug were legalised in Britain, it would be interesting to see whether the number of youths using the drug was reduced. I think so. The government has done close to no research into the case over whether cannabis has a close influence on the users of drugs such as heroine, and still it insists that soft drugs lead on to hard drugs – or most heroine addicts smoked cannabis, therefore most cannabis users will go on to use heroine.
Since 2000, the drug use rate in America has risen to the highest it’s ever been. In a survey done in 2009, 8.7 percent of people age 12 and up said that they used illegal substances within a month of taking the survey, a 9 percent increase since 2008 (Abuse, National Institute on Drug, 2010). This statistic alone is very concerning due to
