1. From the book “The Happiness Advantage”, please define the following terms: Tetris Effect, Zorro Circle and the “twenty second rule”. The 20 Second Rule- This principle looks as how we can overcome the weakening power to be positive. When one wants to develop a habit, it is easier to start with tackling and achieving smaller tasks. Focusing on removing obstacles can lead to small changes in habit and behavior. The Zorro Circle- When we are faced with difficult or unbearable circumstance, we need to learn how to control and fight off those emotions in order for use to gain control of the situation by focusing on small tasks and goals that we can manage and handle efficiently and immediately. By doing this we can gradually move on to …show more content…
Often people will rise or fall to the level of our expectations. See them as they could be, not as they are. Don 't limit the potential of the workers by expecting less than their best. For. e.g. if a worker is asked to perform a specific task, expect their best and do not think negatively. b. Make a thorough study of the other person 's needs- Each person in the workplace is an individual with specific skills, talents, strengths, weaknesses, needs and dreams. Taking time to know them makes it easier to lead and direct them for success. For e.g. if a worker has an interest in computers, arrange for them to get some training in the specific area of interest. c. Establish high standards for excellence- Leaders fail when they accept results that fall below expectation or fail to set challenging standards. People will often time try to impress you when you set the bar higher and lead by example. d. Create an environment where failure is not fatal- everyone makes mistakes in life and taking risks means you often time fail. If your workers feels supported and encouraged they will take risks and move past their comfort zone into the zone where they will feel like a winner. Help them learn from the lessons of any mistakes and move ahead with energy to face the next challenge. e. If they are going anywhere near where you want to go, climb on other people 's bandwagons- Sometimes you need to be honest and realize that people are not always going the same direction or share
Within The Happiness Hypothesis by Jonathan Haidt, he mentions that there are two ancient truths concerning how the mind works. The first truth is the foundational idea of the book: the mind is divided into parts that sometimes conflict with each other. The second truth is Shakespeare’s idea about how “thinking makes it so.” (or, as Buddha said, “Our life is the creation of our mind.”) Like a rider, on the back of an elephant, the conscious, reasoning part of the mind has only limited control of what the elephant does. Nowadays, we know the cause of these divisions, and a few ways to help the rider and the elephant work as a better team. We can improve this ancient idea today by explaining why most people’s minds have a bias toward seeing threats and engaging in useless worry. To change this bias, we can use three techniques to increase happiness, one ancient, and two very new.
We are all leaders, as we all influence others negatively, or positively, but the important part to remember is we want to see others succeed, and help them reach their potential. Consequently, it would be more valuable to start applying everything that has been taught in this book sooner than later, as it doesn’t take long for any one of us to fall into the trap of our old habits.
History shows us that there has been good leaders, and that there has been bad leaders. However, each type of leader has kept things together whether for the good of the people or just for themselves. What sets a leader a part is how well they lead their people. Leading by example is always the best way to go. If a leader shows integrity, honesty, and ethics it makes their followers want to display the same behavior. There are several different types of leadership theories to use when leading, but I have chosen three to focus on. The three I have chosen to focus on are: Contingency Theories, Situational Theories, and The Great Man Theories.
Every person is a leader in their own way. BUT, in order to be a successful leader. A leader should develop some great traits that will make them shine in this darkness of so many leaders. In order to let this start shine, the person should know how to communicate with the team in a way that involves empathy and understanding. The second way to add to that is being flexible and open-minded that will enable the team from not only love them but respect them. In order to meet that; it should be looking from accepting what the team has to offer and being more kind of understanding and flexible with them. The third and most important thing to me is; conviction and as I mentioned earlier , that the only way to develop this is by being a great leader and following a great example for them. As I remember from my grandma when she told me: “be a good example for your sister (Down Syndrome) because she will end up being like you, so it is your choice to make your sister in the future.” I would never be able to forget this. And these are the great ways to be a great leader and a leader that not only benefit you or me BUT the entire society. Perhaps we could have more people who pick these traits as one of theirs so we live better. And in order to develop these traits, the individual him/herself have to work on their inner self and start to apply these as much as they can, and we will know and feel this which is by people having more and better
Employees who feel good about themselves produce good results, propabley one of my bigest take aways is the one minite goals or keeping it as simple as poosible , don't complicate it and make it possibele to understand the goals in one minite , setting up a goal is important as it provide immideate feed back to employees and let them know where they stand , it is human nature to constantly look for thier place in a spafice setting with out goals employee will simply loss interset , evey eployee is a potential winner investing time in my employee and help gorw them , find thier strenght and match my employees to avilabe postiones in our orginaztion , I learnd to ask myself if the
Inspirational and uplifting films with dynamic characters and emotionally charged themes have always been a mainstay at the box-office. High quality drama films are the category of indie films that actually make money. The public has embraced films such as Lost in Translation, Juno, Slum Dog Millionaire, and Little Miss Sunshine. Each of these highly acclaimed motion-pictures are at their roots, strong character driven dramas. Happiness Attainable is such a piece, and deals with many prevalent social issues while retaining threads of romance, adventure and suspense. It also features a feminine protagonist; a valuable asset in attracting a strong female and couple-oriented audience base.
After reading the article “Happiness Is an Inside Job” Robert Puff, I came to multiple conclusions regarding cognitive psychology and conflict management. Ultimately, the overall lesson portrayed in the article was the notion that only each individual has control over their emotions. Although emotions may be elevated by certain individuals or specific stressful situations, in the end, the conscious choice between joy, anger, and sadness lies completely at our own mercy. The article refers to the emotion of happiness as being an inside job. Again, this simply means that we control our own happiness. In order for human beings to fulfill their right to happiness, there are certain methods one can practice. For example, as mentioned in the article,
What does it mean to lead be a leader? In my opinion a few qualities that would be necessary for somebody to lead would be: integrity, accountability, initiative, diligence. Researching deeper into it I found out that to be a good leader you must lead by example. Well what does leading by example necessarily mean? “By walking your talk, you become a person others want to follow. When leaders say one thing, but do another, they erode trust--a critical element of productive leadership.” ( Carl Golden). In other words when I truly believe what you say, and because your actions support what you say, then I will trust you. It may seem like a very difficult thing to accomplish but I can assure you it can certainly be
Cognitive psychology is based on the interaction between thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Every mind has to process events and decide how to react; conflict management helps to evaluate situations and move forward in the best way. In order to manage conflicts, one must step back and assess what makes him feel this certain way. In the article Happiness is an Inside Job, Robert Puff elaborates on how to present and happy to rid of the suffering.
Leadership is lifting a person’s vision to higher sights, the raising of a person’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitation.” Every leader has their own techniques to be successful. With characteristics such as trustworthy, ethical, and honest have high personal standards. Having
While there are many poor leaders, a trait that can directly change that is the ability to be humble. People do not even realize how vital this is to a well functioning group. No one wants someone leading them who always make statements like, “You guys would be nothing without me,” or “I saved the day.” The ability to be humble will ensure that everyone is heard and understand that they are needed. A humble leader also shows that even though they are in charge they will be doing the same tasks as their
In the article “THE ECONOMICS OF HAPPINESS", John Ikerd review the ideas within economic history and the effects of economic on our happiness. I think that while all of us want something so much that we think that if we own it; it will make us happier. We can see that advertisements of gadgets such as Apple products: iPod and especially iPhone and iMacs computers try to sell us the illusion that buying their products would make us special and unique. Psychological research shows that happiness that comes from buying a new product is only temporary and lasts only for a short time. In addition, statistics show that 1 in 10 Americans will suffer from depression, which means we became a nation of unhappy people despite all the wealth we have. I
5. Build strong relationship with the workers It is very vital to build a strong professional and individual relationship with your employees. This will help you to understand and appreciate any differences you may have, which will help your business or organization to grow from strength to strength. 6.
A person can’t wake up one day and decide that they want to be a leader. Leaders are not born, but they are shaped through teaching, learning, and observations. Being an effective leader requires a particular set of skills. Anyone can learn these skills needed to become a leader, but not all of them can be effective when it comes to leading others. Parrott (2009) recorded, “In today’s leadership world, our outward appearance is the tally sheet of results we tout to prove our worth, while our thoughts and intentions are buried deep in the longview we bring to leadership” (p. 15). Today, everything centers around quick-fixes, immediate-impacts, and short-views. Being an effective leader is more than giving demands to the people that you work alongside. Throughout this class, I had the opportunity not only to review the skills I need to be a leader but how I can enhance those skills to help make a difference.
I would also include team building exercises, as not only does it encourage employees and motivate them to work, but also help build on teamwork which would be the main target. Having employees working well together this can create better communicational skills and can actually increase the amount of work completed by staff, as they will be working more efficiently.
