Vanessa loves the woods.She goes there every day, after doing her chores, and comes back at sundown, when the sun seeks under into its bed and while the moon rises up awake. One pleasant day Vanessa was walking in the woods with her puppy. She came upon a bridge that never seemed to be there, but Vanessa had taken this path a hundred times but she 's never seen a bridge, since it was getting late Vanessa left to go home. The very next day when the sun rised over the whole town, Vanessa quickly and quietly snuck out of the house, she was curious about that bridge, something about it just hooked her. Once Vanessa had arrived in the woods the same Bridge was there though she had thought that it would have been way farther, for some reason Vanessa felt like that the bridge was just waiting for her. She first checked if the bridge was sturdy enough and in her opinion it was fine, it 's not like spontaneously she is just going to fall into the stream. But SPLASH! Unfortunately that 's exactly what happened. But It 's not what you think the water barely touched her she was on land it looked like the same place that she was in before. Then suddenly she heard a voice. She suspected that it wasn 't really anything just a few teenagers doing some stuff of their own or just talking. But to her surprise it was no one well no one as a human. There were only trees., Vanessa saw a light, it kept coming closer and closer she decided to follow it, whatever it was. August Wilson’s Fences, is a dramatic play that spotlights on the attributes of black life in the mid to late twentieth century and emphasizes the strains of society on African Americans. Focusing on the lives of normal African Americans, the author also recognizes the significance of the family ties and how they relate to the society. He mentions symbols such as sports and fences in the story to relate to many topics mainly all of the topics pile up to the prism of race and its impact on the lives of typical African Americans at that time. Wilson uses the symbol of fences in his play, physically and mentally, in numerous occasions to symbolize protection, Rose and Troy Maxson’s relationship, and Troy 's fight against Death in order to convey the characters ' incapability of facing reality.
The main ideas that we have read in our readings covered what Women’s Studies is and Dominant Ideas About Women. Three passages that caught my attention out of the 32 passages were “A Work of Artifice” by Marge Piercy, “Gender Inequity in School: Not a Thing of the Past” by Karen Zittleman and David Sadker, and lastly, “Have you Ever Heard of Asian-American Feminists” by Stacey Yap. With these three passages, there was good information for me to interpret and to reflect upon in these readings.
Richard Blanco is a Cuban- American poet who was given the oppurunity to write an inaugaration poem for Barack Obama's second swearing-in. A Broken Tower, by Hart Crane, is a metaphor-rich poem that is very ambiguous but seems to describe the difficulties of the creative process and the way in which the artist is bound and compelled by it. Crane uses many religious metaphors and references, directly mentioning God and also bells, which are associated with churches. It is possible to interpret the poem in a religious sense, but it could be argued that religion and art are similar metaphors; that, for the poet, his writings are both a method of spiritual expression and a search for truth. The theme of poem “Crossings,” by Judith Ortiz Cofer is evaluating and reacting upon the tough decisions that come up in life. The cracks represent the flaws you can find and the inevitable accidents that will occur. “But each day more and more fissures / crisscross your path, and like the lines/ on your palms, they mean something.” (6-8) These lines show that each days more incidents and troubles, “the fissures”, will come up in your life, the bad things will happen in your life time, “crisscross your path, and like the lines on your palms, they mean something,” however, every time you experience a bad accident or disaster, which it seems at the time, you will learn something. It also seems like fate is a big theme in this piece and the human reaction to fate’s doings. On lines 8 and 9, “on your palms, they mean something/ you cannot decipher,” shows fate’s working in manufacturing these cracks. What they incidents mean, or what you can learn from them however, is still a mystery because it is brought on by fate, such as the example of lines on your palms, and how some people believe they are a representation of one’s future. The lines “Finally you must choose between / standing still in the one solid spot / you have found, or you keep moving / and take the risk: / Break your mother’s back.” (10-14) show the choices humans have to make in relation to the events brought on like fate. Poetry is a beautiful way to express the subtext within it, using literary devices which enhances the poem 's beauty. Poetry is considered to take distorted ideas and transforms it into beautiful words. Therefore, resulting the harsh truth being displayed in a form of a poem for readers to sink into another point of view. These creators called poets, are a group of people with a wide variety of experiences that an average person does not usually experience. They can create a more unified meaning in their masterpiece, without taking up 300 pages to exhibit their meaning, and still hold different interpretations by different readers. Poets are known to uncover the truth, which could be their experiences or reality based ideas, by beautifying the reality with literary devices to make it more relatable and enjoyable but still hold that very core of the meaning behind the poem. Poetry is a powerful vessel, between creator and reader, to change a person’s outlook of life or one’s surroundings. A poem can change moods, enhances one’s personality, gain a sense of people knowledge and become a bit more sensitive around one 's world. Even if poets are not aware of the power poetry holds, they still do it to convey an experience, a lesson or a journey. All of this relates to 'Love and Roses ' by Tracy Marshall, where the speaker is telling the reader a journey of their blinding love. I personally have read theses six poems a few times each now. Starting with “Introduction to Poetry,” “How I Discovered Poetry,” “Poetry Should Ride the Bus,” “How Poetry comes to me,” “Making It in Poetry” and “Poem.” I for one will be explicating each poem and discussing how they are similar and different in their own ways. As well as explaining my own thoughts on the poems themselves and summarizing what I believe them to be.
A year, and a day it 's been since I 've had a peaceful dream.
In the first stanza of the poem, Swells, Ammons makes a connection between swell and memories. Swell is the vehicle and is use as a way to describe the substance of a particular memory. Memory plays a role as the tenor. The speaker believes there is a correlation in terms of the size of the “Swell in the ocean” with the importance or impact of the memory; as the swell increase in size, so will the memory significance. The stanza then goes on to create an image for readers with the words, “Information of actions summarized (surface peaks and dribbles.” One possible reason the lines are written in this way is because the words create an imagery of contours and functions of a human brain. Certain sections the human brain can retain information and condense data into its most useful aspects.
She took a quick look around the last turn before the main street that led to the school. She noticed several boys and girls in the alleyways on both sides of the narrow street. It looked as if every class at her school, several young ladies and even her teacher waited for her in ambush. She ducked back before they could see her, hiked up her dress, and ran as fast as her little legs could carry her in the opposite direction of the angry mob. She didn’t stop until she had found the forest path that she needed and breathed a sigh of relief when she heard no one in pursuit. The forest surroundings felt different for some reason and it frightened her. It had a forbidding feel to it this dawn like she had never felt in the past.
Months later after confronting herself, Vanessa took on a wonderful job, the engagement is back on, and she is now being extremely social again. She is now planning vacations and enjoying the good things in life. The best part of her day seems to be listening to others and enjoying simple conversations. Her goals seems so close she can taste it. Vanessa knows now that it's hard-work and dedication that she needs. These day Vanessa is in love with the person she grew to be. She can now look in the mirror and see the beautiful, glowing and intelligent woman that was there all

Throughout this novel, Lily Briscoe is characterized as an artist who is constantly either painting or thinking about her painting. Lily is very private of her artwork and everything she comes across is anchored back to her painting. Lily’s painting represents a feminine artistic vison. Regardless of what others think of her painting, she has a desire to finish her artwork. The development of this motif contributes to the theme of women 's artistic ability and independence, a theme through which we come to see an unexpected connection between Lily and Mrs. Ramsay. As Lily’s artwork can be described as the art of representation, Mrs. Ramsay’s is best considered to be the art of connection and comfort. Ultimately, Mrs. Ramsay’s art allows Lily to complete her own piece of art, while providing hope for its permanence.
