The Qualitative Multimodal Project (QMP) that I have created is an image using the slogan called “Protect Our Children Not Your Guns”. It shows an image of the child in my project who represents an ordinary kid of about four to five years old who has been left unsupervised by his parents. The boy is holding a real gun that he believes to be his toy water-gun which can be seen by his reflection in the mirror. The purpose of my project’s argument is to instill awareness to the American audience of all ages and to raise concerns among the target audience about the assault weapons in the United States. The genre of this project is in the form of a public awareness advertisement and the genre conventions of this form also include a medium. Also …show more content…
The source that inspired the idea for my project’s argument is the advertisement by the Kinder Egg Campaign, which is initiated by the Moms Demand Action used for pro-gun control. The main intention of the Moms Demand Action campaign is to argue over why Kinder Eggs have been banned in America when guns are not banned. They simply want to raise consciousness about guns causing more violence than intended rather than Kinder Eggs that were banned in 1983, which pose no harm at all. The image of the child in my project represents an ordinary child who has been left unsupervised by his parents. This shows that with certain laws which let some people hold guns in their house, a dangerous situation can occur which can cause the child to possess the weapon and use it as a …show more content…
Another step taken for this project was that I re-drew the image and added some colors to make the image more striking. Some weaknesses of this argument are that it includes only one incident that can occur when a child is left unsupervised. One strength of this argument is that it shows a terrifying fear for many parents and can occur very easily. Another strength of this picture is that some of the parts of my argument that can be improved is that the image could have been drawn better and be more detailed in regards to the picture of the child and the gun. The color choice could have been more
In his article “Violent Media Is Good For Kids,” comic book author Gerald Jones, claims that violent media such as comic books and cartoons can have a positive effect on our children because children use violent stories to meet their emotional and developmental needs. Jones argues against other people’s views that violent media will have a negative influence on children. Gerald Jones had many strengths in his article which helped support his argument and could possible make his argument effective. His strengths were mainly the use of emotional appeal like story telling and personal experiences to help convince his audience. While Jones’s essay started off strong, he only gave a few weaknesses like the lack of examples and how he only used one reference, his life, to justify his point of view which in the end did not help persuade the audience.

In the use, purchase, and selling of guns, there are consequences for the actions of those who bypass the law. One major issue is in the contrast of people’s state of mind. For example, in the article about the two school shootings, the author includes the following statement from a child: “‘Just because I have access to a gun, that doesn't mean I'm going to go out and kill somebody,’ said Cummings, who took a safety course before receiving a state hunting license. ‘Anyone who does that, they've got to be messed up in the head.’” (Kids). The people, children or adults, who come to have access to a gun and do not use it solely for self-defense or the sport of hunting, will use it for violence and have the reputation for not being in the right
Violent Media is Good for Kids, by Gerald Jones; a persuasive article written by a comic book author that analyzes how exposing children to violent media has positive effects in shaping a person. This article was written as a counter-argument to the negative response media received after a horrific mass shooting that took place at a high school. Jones defends violent media by telling of his own personal experience with it, thus glorifying it in the process. Jones argues in his article that violent media is a helpful resource for children and it does not necessarily harm them. Jones’ argument was effective and very convincing. He defends his stance by continuously stating the positives that violent media has had not only on him, but his own son as well.
People who appreciate activities like shooting competitions and hunting, use firearms responsibly. This use contrasts with other uses, which often result in consequences that can be both intended and unintended. With past and present mass shootings, and acts of bloodshed perpetrated with the usage of weapons; has triggered a focus on gun control that once again has been brought into the spotlight. The purpose of the ongoing gun argument addresses the crimes that are committed with guns. This issue of gun control separated people into two groups: those who believe that carrying guns might prevent some crimes and fatalities, and those who don’t. There are individuals who believe absolutely the reverse: that more crime and deaths
Gun Control, A Real Solution to Gun Violence? Analysis of the Film Bowling for Columbine
The critics respond with the need for gun safety locks, citing examples of children finding unlocked and loaded guns in their homes. These children might subsequently harm themselves or cause harm to others with the firearm. The belief is that proper parenting can help to reduce
In today’s society it’s easy to find something in a newspaper, magazine, or on television that portrays the scrutiny of guns in the home. While reading or viewing such opinions it can possibly influence one to see issues in a particular way. It is not my goal to persuade you to lean in a specific direction but to see the issue from different angles. When viewing both arguments you are faced with reflecting on your own opinion and possibly agreeing more firmly with your own choice or changing your outlook and coming across the subject in a new way.
In the article, “Violent Media Is Good for Kids”, the author, Gerard Jones, begins by providing background information about himself. As a child, Jones was taught that violence was wrong, and as he grew up, he learned that violent comics and stories aided him to become an action movies and comic book writer. In his article, the author addresses why violent media are good for children. He points out that it helps them transform better socially, explore and conquer their feelings, and improves self-knowledge. Jones purpose is to inform readers about the positive use of violent media on children. The author uses rhetorical appeals of pathos and ethos, and stylistic techniques such as allusions and repetitions to create his argument.
My topic arguable because NRA (National Rifle Association) in the U.S. do not want to hear what the children say about the use of guns. The National Rifle Association(NRA) should realize that psychological effects of gun violence it gives to the children is
In the article “Guns and the Role of Protective Parenting”, Chris Sacco explains that there should be more safety laws employed to keep children, and everyone else safe. There are many cases where parents and children are injured and in some cases killed. In the article, Sacco provides solutions as a way to help protect families. Sacco supports that guns are not the problem, but adults can decrease the number of accidents that happen just by being educated and taking precautions.
The genre for the article is political because Jones purpose for writing the article was to promote and defend children’s exposure to violent media. Jones audience for the article included both side of the argument and allowed for interaction on the website for discussion. Jones pathos used only positive examples for his argument and offered no acknowledgement of any negative effects of violent media’s influence on children. Jones’ logos used a series of successful stories as a logical argument for the author’s claim made in the title. Jones waited until the end of his article to clarify that he was not arguing that violent entertainment was not harmless.
Have you ever thought about the fact that in America, an 18 year-old is old enough to buy a gun, but not a beer? The concern of a gun-crime being committed by a young man/woman is high, but what if they want to go hunting with their father? It doesn’t seem so bad now. Some people may think that our President isn’t effective enough, but there are too many people supporting each side for the President to make a large, yet fair decision. There may be two sides to the story, but what is the right option? This question of safety and gun control has become part of an on-going controversy due to views on The Constitution, the national gun control laws, as well as the fact that most Americans would like an updated background checking system.
Parents began to question where this violent behavior came from. They started realizing their kid’s interest in toys such as toy pistols. This raised questions whether the media was silently making guns an acceptable form of everyday life. The inspiration from this issue led Nilsen to research the topic. Her purpose in the article was to pick apart
I think that the the biggest risk factors that I am most concerned with are parenting , violence and access to weapons. Parenting, because their is no requirement to be a parent. Anyone who can reproduce can have a child even if they don't know the first thing about raising a child or even want to raise a child. Violence, because if a child sees violence or has someone violent against them they will not get the opportunity to learn that violence is wrong and that is hurts others, not to mention the physiological problems that could arise from an abusive family. Lastly, a child should never be allowed access to weapons of any kind. Children don’t grasp the concept of death and that that person would be gone forever. Heaven forbid a child go
