Spoken language controlled assessment
How do TV chefs adapt and change their language to suit their audience and purpose?
There are as many different styles and variations of spoken language as there are people on Earth as language is an abundant ocean of creativity that will never dry up. The inventions of modern day technology such as the TV have meant that English spoken language is as varied now as it has ever been; you only have to flick through the TV channels to discover the differences in the language a news reporter uses, compared to that of a chat show host. This also applies to different people talking about the same subject; this can be illustrated in the study of Jamie Oliver’s and Gordon Ramsay’s unique adaptations of

As the public associate summer with long hot lazy summer days full of bliss and relaxation, Oliver’s language has adapted to meet the audiences expectation. This is evident in the way he uses vague instructions like ‘rub in some flavours and seasoning’, ‘a little bit of olive oil’, and ‘a couple of tins of tomatoes’ which leaves the audience to use his/her own instinct as to the amount they should use. This can be effective as it puts the audience more in charge of the recipe, so they feel more confident about cooking. However perfectionists may be disappointed with the lack of information and detail they are given.
Ramsay in ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ adapts his speech in a style that contrasts greatly to that of Oliver’s. He uses vulgar expletives and bluntly insults the contestants so frequently, it is startling. Examples of this are “You're so full of [bleep] your eyes are brown” and “You serve, they eat- straight after they vomit”. Even though this kind of language would be deemed socially unacceptable if used in a real life context, on TV it humours the audience. However other people will find the language distasteful and question the morality of using such high levels of profanity and bullying the contestants. Also families would not be able to watch this show together as the language is highly inappropriate for young children and therefore it
Written and narrated by chef Marcus Samuelsson, the autobiography Yes Chef shares the journey of a novice home cook transforming into an elite celebrity chef. Originally born in Ethiopia, a Swedish family adopted Samuelsson at the age of three due to the Ethiopian civil war. Samuelsson grew up in Sweden as a member of a middle-class Caucasian family, but throughout his life he traveled around the world in order to advance in his cooking career. Currently, Samuelsson owns multiple restaurants throughout the world, but New York City is where he calls home. He now resides in Manhattan, along with his wife and daughter. His goal in writing this book was to share his evolution from novice home cook to celebrity chef, and to
The English language is particularly complex in almost all aspects. Many of the words in the English language have different meanings for the same word. This is not unlike the definition of the different levels of usage. McCrimmon defines the three levels, formal, moderate, and colloquial, by their sentence structure, diction, and tone (McCrimmon 193). ¹ Using McCrimmon’s definitions, authors can determine what type of writing is applicable to each of the three levels. For the formal writings, an adequate example of where readers can find it is in a professional journal, and an appropriate place to find an example of the moderate level is in a weekly news magazine. Also, the best place to look for an example of the colloquial level is in certain sections of the newspaper. All of the levels of usage apply to these different types of writings and assist in defining what each level involves.

The series consistently brings up our primal need to cook, while trying to entice us back into the kitchen with beautiful cinematography, personal stories about people, and the cultural impact of the things we take for granted. There 's no doubt that Cooked is a passion project, with a strong message, however, there are many inconsistencies with the argument they present. These inconsistencies mostly revolve around a failure to negate questions of how to achieve their idealist viewpoints, cherry picking scientific evidence, and simultaneously trying to dismantle food industry fuckery while supporting a fallacy.
He explains how Americans have changed their perspective on cooking throughout the years, and he also goes into writing about how television has impacted the way we cook . A new definition of “cooking” has arised, and let me tell you; it’s not a good one.
Paul Keating’s speech ‘funeral service of the unknown Australian soldier’ and Noel Pearson’s speech ‘an Australian history for us all’ have developed and expressed ideas using language appropriate to their audience, purpose and form. Despite the fact, it is fundamentally the speaker’s skills in the construction of the speech that determine its decisive success.
Yet, his education about the hazards that occur in life grew tremendously, as Huck now understands how man’s cruelty towards others are most responsible for the much of the ugliness he encountered. His new found learning still seems a bit twisted to him, however, as the society in which he lives teaches that slavery is lawful while the Bible teaches brotherhood and love. The hypocrisy he comprehends ends up confirming what Huck has valued all along: so-called civility is but a gesture, one which he cannot abide. Thus, Huck goes west in attempts to escape the trappings and dangers of civility; yet, as seen in today’s world, the hypocrisy is inescapable. The west has developed, and with the development, the cruelty, hypocrisy and dangers has risen to even greater heights. In the land of the free and equal, people are shunned because of their ethnicities or religious affiliations; people shoot other people with automatic weapons; homelessness thrives alongside wealth and prosperity. And just as Huckleberry Finn struggled to separate his deformed conscience from his sound heart, humans must wrestle to find compassion in their hearts, reform their consciences, and juxtapose their hearts and consciences to guide them to righteous

Although I have my own idiolect, the way I speak constantly changes. This is because I try to adapt my spoken language to suit the situation I am in. There are many reasons for why I try to adapt my spoken language some of the main reasons being that I am fearful of the judgements and perceptions that others may make because of the way I speak also being afraid of exclusion or not being able to fit in and sometimes I feel pressurised into speaking in a certain way.

If I say that I am currently employed with a major petroleum distribution center, you may think that I am a highly qualified person making limitless amounts of money. However, I am using the power of language to merely say that I work at a gas station making minimum wage. Great historical figures throughout history have used the power of language, the ability to use words to their advantage, to inspire people to unite under one common cause and to change the world.
The best way to prepare for a presentation, one must consider the best method, the type of presentation and the audience for a given topic. There are four different types of presentation methods they are; Impromptu, Extemporaneous Speaking, Using a Manuscript, and Memorization. Each of the four methods is appropriate in certain situations. Impromptu is a speech that frequently involves no preparation time and forces you to think on your feet. With no opportunity to prepare, you must rely on what you know. Extemporaneous is a speech that involves preparation and practice. This form of delivery has many advantages.
