Luckily, a lot of scientists nowadays realize that animal testing is inhumane and not necessary. Until today, thousands to millions of dollars are being wasted by funding to many studies that are not related to people’s lives, or studies that already proved dangerous to humans. In the early twentieth century there were little to no regulation on animal testing, until 1937 after a pharmacticual company released a medication called Elixir Sulfanilamide. This medication contained a solution that was poisonous to humans and caused over a hundred deaths; as a result, the government created the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act in 1938, which made animal testing mandatory for new drugs (“Animal Experimentation”). However, this testing causes harm to the animals used, the test results are unreliable and there are other means of testing that is less harmful.

The U.S. can support seniors that are food insecure. The country could hire more teachers for America’s education. The government could give money for homeless veterans or give back money in federal income taxes. All of these options would help the country and its citizens. On of the final step is to test these cosmetics on animals to make sure they are safe. Innocent animals who have no ability to fight or communicate with humans for justice. Several other universities also use animals in research. Furthermore not all animals are used in research, some are used in training courses. For instance the Military uses 8,500 animals every year in training courses. Roughly 10,000 animals were being shot, blown up, and stabbed for surgical training a year. Sadly the number of animals used in research has gone from 74,600 in the years 1997 to 2003, and has risen to 128,000 in the years 2008 to 2012. As many may believe that animal testing is the only way to find out new things or test products, it is not, there are new alternatives that scientists have found like in vitro methods, and studies with human volunteers that have been proven to work without harming these animals.

Millions of animal every year are killed by testing, shooting, and eating them. They are tested on and when killed they just throw them away like trash. When they are being tested on, they suffer, and I just can’t imagine what they go through. They have to leave their homes, family, and friends.
