Is it cruel to use Animals to Test Human products?
Approximately 225 million animals are used for testing every year. Billions have been killed in the process. ("Questions and Answers About Biomedical Research.”) How can this be allowed? Isn’t it cruel to use animals to test products for humans? Many animal rights activists say, “yes” to this question. However, scientists argue it is necessary and animal research can help save human lives. There are probable arguments for both sides. But the dangers of using animals to test products for human use weighs an even greater risk than not using the animals. Alternatives are much more ethical.
Over the years, scientists have used

Sometimes the animals can be adopted out or sent to rescue facilities to live out the remainder of their lives; but this is a rare occasion. In 2000 a National Sanctuary was created for chimpanzees used in any testing. ("Questions and Answers About Biomedical Research.”) although some animals can be given a second chance they will still suffer through the remainder of their lives. In some cases, even after the animals are put through all the pain and suffering, the substances tested may never actually get used for anything useful. This is one reason why so many people are against this practice. It is as if the animals must die in vain after all they had to go through, just for the substance to never receive approval nor see public consumption or use. Another issue is the price of animal testing. The process is very expensive. Every animal needs to be fed, housed, cared for and treated with drugs or a similar experimental substance. Not only that but many times the experiment must be repeated more than once and over a long time span. The cost of the animals themselves must also be factored into the expense of the process, along with all the workers’ wages. (“Using Animals for Testing: Pros Versus Cons.”) With today’s advances in technology and knowledge using animals to test on is unnecessary. Alternatives have been found
The harmful use of animals in experiments is not only cruel and inhumane but also often ineffective. Animals do not get many of the human diseases that people do, such as major types of heart disease, many types of cancer, HIV, Parkinson’s disease, or schizophrenia. There have been past occasions where drugs passed on animals weren’t even safe. There is no excuse for animal testing in today’s techy world, there are now many alternatives for animal testing that would put an end to the pain and suffering endured by these innocent animals during human testing.
Millions of helpless animals every year like rats, rabbits, dogs, monkeys and several more species are cruelly tested on, in horrible conditions. Animals should be able to roam free and live a healthy life looking after their young, but all their life consists of is sitting in filth and terrible pain waiting in fear of what brutal test will be done to them next. Anything that is tested on any animal that brings agonising pain to them is ethically and morally wrong, and should to be put to a complete stop immediately. Experiments are performed on animals to test a variety of things like new medicines that are being developed and to test how safe different products are. Things ranging from cosmetics, cleaning products, food additives, pharmaceuticals and chemicals are forcefully tested on animals.
According to a 2017-18 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association about 85 million families in the United States own a pet. In most homes pets are treated like a member of the family. But what if that family member was legally allowed to be burned, shocked, poisoned, starved, or forced to become addicted to drugs for research? Most people would be heartbroken and outraged! But that is what does happen to the millions of animals that are used in animal testing in the U.S. every year. Animal testing is wrong because it is cruel and inhumane to the animals and because animals make poor test subjects for testing on products or drugs that will be used for humans.
At this very moment, millions of animals are stuck inside cold, locked cages in laboratories across the country. They dwindle in pain, throb with loneliness, and yearn to roam free and use their own minds. Instead, all they do is lie and wait in despair for the next terrifying and agonizing operation that is to be performed on them. They shudder and wince in fear whenever someone walks past their cage. After surviving lives of pain, isolation, and horror, near to all of them will be killed. Although animal testing brings more products and more medical discoveries, it should still be considered an act of animal cruelty.
Following along, testing on animals is inhumane, and animal testing, an unbearable act, is universally unwanted by all. Not just animal lovers peering in through the outside disapprove or have a disliking for the tests, but also those from within (and not just the animals) have a distaste for the tests too. Animal testing may hope to advance humans (and lifestyles), whilst preventing or delaying deaths and unnecessarily assuring a cosmetic’s safety, but (ironically) at the expense or reverse of other species. If the animals tested on in the United States were all from just one generally beloved species, such as canines (or even people), then there would be an outrage and atrocity, but there is a preference over which species get tested upon and which do not-quite hypocritical. Chimps are humanity’s closest living relative, sharing 98% to 99% of DNA, and as of September 14th, 2015, testing on them has been illegal in the United States (after being declared an endangered species). In "Fighting cancer: Animal research at Cambridge," Professor Gerard Evans pronounces that working with orgasms that are more alike to humans, than mice, is possible, but experimenting and testing on such organisms would (further) raise issues or questions, as they, such as primates, may be or are of measurable intelligence (among other considerations). In “Fighting cancer: Animal research at Cambridge,” Professor Gerard Evans also denotes, “Mice are relatively easy to breed and maintain and keep
Animal Testing has been a huge controversy in the past years. Some believe that testing is necessary in reaching medical breakthroughs to find cures for a majority of diseases. Unfortunately, animal testing leads to the suffering and death of millions of animals, and that's why most are against it. Many wonder, “How similar are our genes to an animal?” Luckily, not all products used today are tested on animals. Which comes to show that there are ways to avoid using animals for biomedical research and research for everyday products.
Have you ever lost a beloved pet? Was it hard to say goodbye? Some animals don't get to live a good life because they are exposed to the dangers of animals testing. Animals Animal testing is a bad thing and should not be going on. Animal testing is cruel and inhumane.
Animals used in experiments are subjected to horrible practices and torture such as force feeding, being burnt, sleep deprivation and starvation just to name few horrendous practices. “Endangered species like chimpanzees is facing high risk of extinction… Since 1923, chimpanzees were used in biomedical research, pioneered by Psycho-Biologist Robert Yerkers.” (Ortigas). The huge demand in live animals for experiments leads to a decrease in numbers in their natural environment. This can have a huge knock on effect to the natural population and
Being away at college makes you realize all the little things that you miss. Something’s that you did not even know you liked, loved, or would even miss when you are away from home for weeks at a time. My favorite part about coming home is the second I walk through the door, I am greeted by my dog. I always thought she was the biggest pain in the butt that liked to eat my favorite pieces of clothing. But seeing how happy she is when I come home makes me grateful for her. So my love for my dog has made me realize that animal testing is wrong and cruel to animals. I will be going over some of the history of animal testing, giving examples of some of the tests that are being performed, and mentioning some of the laws and acts created. While reading through this think is this test necessary when the animals will be put through cruel procedures. This is why I think that animal testing should be reevaluated to see if it is really worthwhile.
Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. Every year, more than a hundred million animals- including mice, dogs, cats, rabbits, monkeys, and many more- are killed in the U.S. They are killed for laboratories in biology lessons, training, curiosity experiments, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. Experimenting on animals is a cruel way of testing products. Alternative testing methods now exist that can replace the need for animals. Most experiments involving animals are flawed, which wastes the lives of the animals. Also, animals suffer just like humans, so it is speciesism to experiment on animals while refraining from experimenting on humans.
Recently, an animal was used to test perfume on, it was allergic to the perfume and died while being tested on. Millions of animals are dying from testings like this every year. Researchers are killing innocent animals for no reason. They never did anything to deserve to be killed and injured. Animals do not have to be locked up in cages most of their life and tested on because it does not even help discover accurate advances in medical technology. Animals should not be used for product or medical research.
As human beings we have developed daily routines that we classify as “normal.” Most of us use a considerable amount of hygiene products each day without putting any consideration into the creation of the merchandise. Have you ever stopped to contemplate how this product was developed and ended up in your hands? To the consumer, it may be just a bottle of shampoo or a tube of mascara – but to animals it is a world of pain. The nature of animal experimentation is erroneous and inhumane. There is an overwhelming amount of scientific evidence that shows there are alternatives to experiments on animals that still benefit medical studies.
Animals are supposed to be to be in the wild. Another example is, they catch mice just for experiments. The author of “Save the animals” states,” Animals do not willingly sacrifice themselves for the advancement of human welfare and new technology.” They go through pain just like us. For example when they are testing drugs they have to get so many injections. The article states,” When animals are used for product toxicity testing or laboratory research, they are subject to painful and frequently deadly experiments.” They are supposed to be able to run free and be able to live a long and healthy life. STOP THE
Each year, more than 100 million animals—including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds—are killed in U.S. laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing" (Experiments on Animals: Overview). Animal testing is how scientist find out new medical cures and treatments but every day animals are put through stressful and painful experiments without any informed consent because they can't speak out for themselves. There will be many more tragic deaths if we as humans do not do what is morally right and stop this cruel act.
Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year (Sharp). There are multiple alternatives than using lab animals, but labs still choose to use them. The lab animals are tortured for months or even years. Approximately 225 million animals are used for testing every year. Billions have been killed in the process. Isn’t it inhumane to use animals to test merchandise for humans? Many people say, “yes” to this question. However, scientists argue it is unavoidable and animal research can help save human lives. There are probable arguments for both sides. But the risk of using animals to test products for human use weighs an even greater risk than not using the animals. Alternatives are much more ethical. Even though humans can benefit from the testing, nevertheless, animals should not be used in research or to test the safety of products because the pain, suffering, and deaths of these animals are not worth the possible human benefits; just three of many examples are it is unethical, it is bad science, and it is wasteful.
