The study found that there were multiple motives for why people use Facebook including maintaining relations, entertainment, boredom, and to meet new people. The study also discovered that

This article could be useful in my research introduction proving background information to further support my hypothesis stating that passive Facebook use decreases social interaction and well-being.

Journal Of Personality And Social Psychology, 105(1), 86-103. http://dx.doi.org/10.1037/a0032540 According to the “Social Mindfulness: Skill and Will to Navigate the Social World”, seven studies were conducted to test social mindfulness. The results found that people with the mindset that concerned others left interdependent others more choice than people who were more focused on themselves and that socially mindful people developed more favorable judgements that socially unmindful people. The studies also found that people who looked trustworthy were greeted with more social mindfulness than those who appeared untrustworthy. Lastly, the study found that social mindfulness could be detected in personality by being positively related to Honesty-Humility and Agreeableness and
This source discusses the basis of mindfulness and the general aspects of mindfulness itself. This source will be used extensively throughout the paper to provide any necessary information regarding mindfullness. This book is the basis for mindfulness and will be used as so.
When I think of mindfulness I contemplate of ones empathetic to interpret a situation. For two weeks every night before I went to bed, I wrote down three items I was grateful for. Some of the words were “Health”,” Family”,” Friends”,” Food”, and” Childhood”. This list goes on, what I grasped is whatever I did that day predisposed what I wrote down. On days I lifted I would appreciate my health, when I went away with my family I recognized how much I appreciated my family, when I was home for a day I realized how much I adored my bed. The new custom I obtained made me appreciate how indebted I am in my life to points I didn’t fathom before. This taught me to feel empathy for people who can’t say the same good things as me which gave me very good insight on to be grateful for the life I have.
Additional results in relation to the mindfulness-based intervention on interpersonal relationships all recorded improved well-being. Subjects were reportedly able to better relate to others.
Communication barriers are not the only issue that has been brought on by social media. Extensive social media use has also been known to affect a person’s self-esteem. Some individuals suffer from a low self-esteem and limit themselves to social media in hopes to create a different image of them. According to Charles Cooley, “The thing that moves us to pride or shame is not the mere mechanical reflection of ourselves, but an imputed sentiment, the imagined effect of this reflection upon another's mind" (Morine, 2009). For some teens and young adults, social media may help them open up and achieve a higher self-esteem. On the other hand, social media on other teens and young adults may have a completely opposite effect. In an article titled, Is Facebook Making Your Child Depressed, it is stated that social media websites such as Facebook “can create a skewed reality that makes teens feel alienated” (PR, 2012). When a person, that is not completely happy with their life, goes onto social media and reads all about other people enjoying a multitude of activities and enjoying their lives this could
The American version of mindfulness then, had completely detached from its original purpose. The inescapable focus on the self as a resulting of the psychologization of spirituality and meditation then, according to Carrette and King, is then the course of Americans “sense of social isolation and disconnection” (58). I believe American mindfulness then, is the poor attempt to cure the problem it created. Rather than fixing the problem itself, mindfulness is a putting a band aid on a much larger social issue that is unknown to the majority of American citizens as it is engrained in our minds to focus solely on ourselves and that ‘life is difficult’ no matter what.
Mindfulness has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions, namely Buddhism (Keng, Smoski, & Robins, 2011), and is commonly defined as “the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally to the unfolding experience moment by moment” (Kabat-Zinn, 2003, p. 145). Definitions like the preceding are common in contemporary literature, however many authors have suggested that mindfulness is a
It is so sad to say, but many people do not know what mindfulness meditation is and its benefits. Unfortunately I was one of the people that did not know what it meant although I was close, I wasn’t exactly right. I thought it was changing ones state of mind from negative to positive in order to over come a fear of a certain thing. In this research paper, I will discuss the benefits that mindfulness meditation does and the alternatives there are to this meditation.
If mindfulness is being more centered within and aware of other, then this is a practice we need to embrace to prevent reacting, while focusing on responding, that is what Brach (2015) talks about in her video. What meaning come to mind after viewing the video?
(2015) states, “Stress costs American companies an estimated $200 billion to $300 billion in lost productivity each year, and research suggests that mindfulness could be an effective antidote.” According to Hansen (2012), many researchers have conducted tests with results suggesting that becoming mindful reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and decreases depression and anxiety levels. Other benefits include the ability to build self-confidence as a leader (Smith, J.A, 2014). “The Benefits of Meditation,” (n.d) suggests that there are many physical and physiological benefits when an individual becomes mindful: the following lists are suggested
Mindfulness origin starts in Buddhism, according to, Bodhi, 1984, p. 1, (Gilbert, B. D., 2011) it focusses on two main points that include “The Fourth Noble Truths and The Noble Eightfold Path.” The four noble truths include “noble truth of suffering, the noble truth of the origin of suffering, noble truth of extinction of suffering, and the noble truth of the path that leads to the extinction of suffering stated by Jotika & Dhamminda (1986) and Nyantiloka (2001), (Gilbert, B.D., 2011). Though being mindfulness is being conscious that as humans it will most likely experience painful events through the lifespan of an individual. However, being mindful includes living in the present moment by being aware of the thoughts that cross the mind by
Values like generosity (kindness to self leads to kindness to others), patience, and trust, provide a solid foundation for mindfulness practice (Kabat-Zinn, 1994). It cultivates a loving attitude towards oneself, accepting one’s limitations and weaknesses, and realizing own potentials through the beauty of giving to others. Langer & Moldoveanu (2000) found that awareness of different perspectives in problem solving is enhanced when one practices mindfulness. Other benefits of mindfulness include having a greater sensitivity to one’s environment and more openness to new information.
You have probably heard the phrase “to be mindful” at least once or twice in your lifetime. As familiar as it sounds, mindfulness is a concept many people seem to overlook despite it being an attribute they should seek. In everyday tasks, therein lies an array of small, subtle technicalities that highlight a significant moment. When we are unaware of the meaning of mindfulness is when we need to be mindful the most, because to be mindful is to be aware of all thoughts, all actions, all of the world— and if you are aware then you are able to view the world with vigor and perspective, encourage study and knowledge, and experience bliss and wonder.
This Journal also corroborates the effectiveness of love-kindness meditation by “ These neuroimaging studies provide evidence that loving kindness and related meditation practices can alter emotional or affective processing.” (Garrison,K.et all 2014). With this Journal’s support the corroboration on the effectiveness of Loving-Kindness Meditation can be
