The world is becoming increasingly multicultural, and college students are encouraged to become global citizens. In the past decade, studying abroad has become an increasingly popular aspect of undergraduate study.

Education is a never-ending learning process that has always been a piece of our life. As education is a building block in our lives, we are eager to put profoundly into our education. Good education will lead us to the bright future. With the fast advancement of public opinion, we have entered an era of information explosion which the necessity of studying abroad has turned into a developing pattern among youth. Most of the students feel that studying abroad is better than studying in local universities. As the saying goes, “the grass always looks greener on the other side of fence.” In this way, I believe that considering abroad have extraordinary points of benefits.

“In 2006 to 2007, according to the data compiled by the Institute of International Education, 582,984 students from all over the world were enrolled in American colleges and universities in a wide range of fields” (Carter, Paragraph 2, 2008). The United States has the highest number of students who are coming to study abroad than any other countries. Each year, the number of international students coming to the United States to obtain degrees is increasing by thousands, and home countries of these students are primarily India, China and Korea, all located in the whole different continent. Global awareness and intercultural competence are some of the hottest buzz words in higher education right now. With the U.S. population becoming more diverse, and our economy increasingly interlinked with economic issues globally, government, business, and society at large are looking more and more to higher education to create the human capital necessary to continue U.S. preeminence around the globe (Duncan, 2011). The method of choice in higher education for teaching these competencies is through travel as a form of exposure to “the world”. This educational archetype is generally termed “study abroad”. The majority of existing research around learning through travel centers on the undergraduate study abroad experience (Lewin, 2009; VandeBerg, Paige, Lou, 2012). This is because study abroad is generally an undergraduate phenomena, and is much rarer at the graduate level. Graduate business education, particularly within MBA programs, is an exception.

From all over the world young minds come to learn at the best schools in the world, these young people recognize the economic and educational strength that America has to offer. Being a guest in a different country brings stricter expectations and a new level of responsibility to these young people. International freshmen are less likely to drop out than in-state freshmen during their first year of college. Those who study abroad have higher expectations and discipline. In-state students are familiar with the area and most likely other students as well, this can leave them distracted and unmotivated.

The reader agrees that the auther had a beneficial experience, but may feel dubious about the effects of studying abroad on a more tangible and wide scale. To address the doubts, the author first includes a study conducted by the Internation Education of Student citing “98% of the 3,400 respondents allowed that their experience abroad left them with a better understanding of themselves” (paragraph 2). Including the considerable statistic assures the audience that, statistically, they are likely to benefit from the experience as well. However, the benefits that the author stated to this point, are all intangible aspects that bolster moral rectitude. For some students, their primay goal of their education is to help them succeed in the workplace instead of building their character. As a result the author mentions the “marketable benefits for the students who aspire to gain progessional growth. To support the object cliam, the author includes copius ways education overseas benefits future professions. This includes communication, language, and experience for careers in journalism, humanities, conversation, politics, and business–just to name a few (paragraph 3)! Studying abroad is a learning option in which a group travels around the world while examining the cultures of the places being visited. The points that will be focused on in this paper are the following: how studying abroad is the best learning option, how it compares to college life, and how it will prove to be more beneficial after schooling. In the section about studying abroad being the best learning option, there will be comparisons the between learning programs on an average college campus and the study abroad program. The section comparing the study abroad to college life will explore the daily agenda of a campus student and a student on the study abroad program.

Ever wanted to travel and study abroad for school, but never get the opportunity to do so? Wondered what it would be like to study abroad in general? Studying abroad can be a great way to find career inspiration, growth, and memorable experiences but, with not enough opportunities being offered to students to study abroad and enjoy the benefits of learning key life skills in various countries. This research explores tactics of integrating study abroad students into the society of their choice. It also looks at the ways a study abroad program could be organized in order to achieve greater cultural competency among these students and better their overall experience by promoting interaction and cultural diversity. Based on studies on university live-in communities, study abroad experiences, cultural and student center layouts, and social learning theory, two solutions can be proposed to achieve the goal of student satisfaction and integration.
