Correggio's intent was for the audience to feel the emotion displayed in the painting. He wishes for the audience to feel what the people are. The painting shows others shocked by what had happened, depicting feelings of agony of grief. The intensity of the painting illustrates the speechlessness of the people as they realize that their savior, the one who has come down from the heavens to save them is now dead. The principles of design that are incorporated in this piece include contrast, emphasis, movement, variety, and unity. The artist utilizes contrast to differentiate each person illustrated in the painting. He wants to differentiate the plethora of emotions and actions displayed in the painting. Correggio's use of emphasis is seen through Jesus in the center of the painting. Since he is the center of the painting, it is also no surprise that he is the topic of it as well. He uses this technique to implement who the main character is. Antonio uses movement it convey the madness that occurred. Everyone is doing their own thing, pacing around on their own free will. His application of this is primarily seen through the man walking down the ladder. Variety is shown through the assortment of emotions and actions exhibited throughout the artwork. Finally, the characters as a whole create a uniform image, shown through his usage of unity. Each person in the painting contributes their own individual emotion,

We all know the famous Ninja Turtles, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael, but what do these names have to do with the Renaissance Art Movement? These famous names were all part of the great masters of early Renaissance art. Their talents included sculpture, painting, architecture, music and drawing, while also diving into sciences and literature. Throughout this time individual expression and worldly experience became the main themes of the century inspiring many budding artists to come.
The Renaissance was from the late fourteenth century to the late sixteenth century. The word Renaissance means ‘rebirth’ in French. In this period of the arts, the paintings dramatically improved. The individuals changed from flat two-dimensional people to three-dimensional, life-like figures. During the Renaissance, there were many artists including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Jan van Eyck.
All the figures in the painting have different expressions on their faces. For example Mr. Columbus starrs dirrectly at the group of coucil men sitting infront of him to convince them of the new world he had discovered. He stands infront of the crowd, looking like a honorable man, with his chesting bulsging out and his right footing pointing forward. His left hand is holding a map, while the right firmly points at it. There is a concil man sitted next to where Christopher stands, looks down at the map to validate Mr. Columbus agruement. There are three figures standing on the left excluding the king and his guides. These men seem so suppresed by what Columbus is telling them, that one of them grab the other firmly on the shoulder to perheps ask him how all of it is possible. The king on the other hand opens his month wide in disbelieve and his hands lift up at about a 30 degree angle, as if he was attempting to stop Columbus from fabricating more lies. On the far right of the painting, there is a boy with what appears to be a map that he is showing two men on his right.; they both starr at it while the other lean forward with his hand placed under his chin. Human drama remains me of Giotto style in Italy 1400-1500. He was the first artists to incoporate human drama into his work by including little details of gustures and emotions. This very artist was great at expressing different types of emotions on the faces
Both sides of the painting contains different colors, which creates different emotions. The abstract feelings conveyed in this painting have caused me to think that maybe both sides describes small portions of what the man feels; the gorgeous valleys indicate his state of calmness and as he gets more and more unhappy the scenery changes to coldness and grey colors. When his mind is continuously and increasingly being tormented his thoughts start to diminish, causing the man to feel like he is progressively getting crazier. He clearly does not like this since the man in the painting is running away from the madness occurring in hell, which can also be portrayed as him running away from his vicious and unholy thoughts. The emotions Giovanni Savoldo is conveying through the colors and craziness causes me to assume that he was trying to infer that Saint Anthony was slightly emotionally unstable and was experiencing all of the emotions depicted in the painting. As I studied the painting more and more, I discovered that the man is running away from the demons, holding his hands in prayer to remind himself that he cannot be defined by the things that haunt him.
The great thing about art, is that there are multiple portrayals of one idea but, the artist’s own personal style allows one to feel something that another may not. Early Renaissance painters, Giotto di Bondone and Duccio di Buoninsegna established their own unique style to depict a biblical scene known as, The Betrayal of Christ. Through a close analysis of each artist’s representation of, The Betrayal of Christ, one is able to compare and contrast the artists own understanding of the scene through their attention to detail, character, and space throughout the painting. When examining these two works, one will have a stronger emotional response towards Giotto’s interpretation rather Duccio’s, due to his methods of handling organization, figures, and space.
Vittore Carpaccio’s symmetrical input truly served it’s purpose. Focusing on the center third of the painting, there’s a mere perfect symmetrical contrast of life and death top to bottom. Most impacting is the symmetrical division of the malnourished and tortured body of Jesus Christ, The left side of his body is in a lively sitting posture on the throne. While his right side is the embodiment of death, his punctured ribs and dangling arm. From the ground up, Carpaccio illustrates the contrast of life and death with minimal details in the painting. The supporting stones of the throne, directly below the arm rests, are divided by breakage, the left stone is cracked and falling apart, while the opposing stone appears to be intact. Vittore Carpaccio managed to capture the cycle of life with many elements one wouldn’t think of comparing life and death with. The top left portion of the throne is a half broken, followed by Jesus’s deadly posture to the falling apart ground stone of the throne, Death is captured in a very recognizable minimalistic form.
