Worldview Paper Becky Luer Liberty University APOL 104 Worldview Paper Part I What is a worldview? A world view consists of our basic beliefs; how we view life in general and the assumptions that we make about reality. In its simplest form, a worldview acts as a pair of glasses. For instance, when we wear sunglasses, everything that was initially bright colored immediately loses its brightness. This means that the glasses make us see a shade darker, changing our outlook on things. That is precisely how a worldview operates. It influences how we view and interpret reality and because different people have different worldviews, how one person views and interprets reality might not be the same as another person (Nickel, 2008). Now that we are better and superior than other animals, what is our purpose in life? The Biblical worldview is that our purpose in life is to glorify and worship God (Isaiah 43:7). This involves turning to God during not just the good times, but also the difficult and trying times. Recognizing that God is the creator of the Universe and all that is within it, and that He has the power and might to have His will done is a critical part of Christianity. In everything that we do, we should always be glorifying God and that is the Christian worldview of the meaning/ purpose of life. 1 Corinthians 10:31 captures this …show more content…
Coming from the point where humans were created in God’s image, it follows that they have the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. From the rules of conduct given to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden to the Ten Commandments given to the Israelites, we see that God throughout history has prescribed what is considered right and what is wrong. Jesus summarized these commandments as loving God and loving our neighbors in Matthew 22:37- 40. Similarly, the fact that we were created in God’s image means that we have an inner ability to know what is wrong and right – conscience (Romans 2:15). The Question of Destiny According to the Bible, there is life after death. When people die, the body becomes separated from the spirit and the soul. It is the body that remains on earth while the spirit goes back to God (John 11:25). Here, depending on your deeds on earth, the spirit may be accepted into Gods kingdom (heaven) or it may be subjected to punishment through hellfire (Matthew 10:28). (625 words) Part
What is a worldview? On the word of Dr. Lew Weider & Dr. Ben Gutierrez (2013), "A worldview is the reflection of ones' heart; or internal existence, ones' mentality, feelings, and desires. The complete process that brings forth one's beliefs."
Explain how different American and British choices during the war might have changed its outcome.
A worldview is easily described as the person’s perception of the world around them and is the framework for decision making. You can think of a worldview like a pair of glasses. When you look out of those glasses what do you see? Dr. Weider in his presentation gave an example; if your glasses are red then everything around you will be red. (Weider & Gotierrez, 2011) This is the same for worldview. Everyone has a worldview if they know it or not. It’s how we organize our thinking about life, death, art, science, faith, learning, work, money, values, and morals. (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011, p.50) Worldview is our underlying

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines worldview as “the way someone thinks about the world.” ("Worldview." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d.). A worldview can be seen as “the framework of beliefs by which a person views the world around him.” (Hindson and Caner, p. 2206). In other words, it is a particular person’s perception of how the world works and what is going on in the world. A Christian will have a different view than does a non-Christian. An African-American will see things differently than will a Caucasian-American. A high school drop-out will perceive things in a different manner than will a person who has achieved a Master’s Degree. All of these differences are based on the person’s upbringing, experiences, and beliefs. Although they may see life and events in a different manner, no worldview is incorrect for that
A worldview is a framework, so to speak, that provides a person with a set of beliefs that shape behavior. A worldview is the “set of glasses” by which one views the world and the issues that are a part of it. This “lens” provides the individual with a perspective that will think critically on societal, cultural, or moral issues from that specific worldview’s vantage point.
Mankind’s purpose is to be seen in his or her ability to leave an impact in other people’s lives in this world. Mankind has a real value and significance. Mankind’s purpose that is believed by Christians and Judaism is to know and follow the word of God. “The purpose of mankind, according to (John 17:3), is "that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
A worldview is a term used to describe one’s theories and beliefs about the world. “No human being lives without a worldview, but few ever give thought to what worldviews are, how they come into being, how they change and how they are held.” (Webb, p.1) Upbringing, life experiences, attitudes and morals can all have an effect on a person’s worldview and in turn, will affect how one decides to live their life every day and the choices they make. “All of us at some time ask what is real.” (DeWeese, pg. 34) Christian Worldview answers, with certainty, the questions to origin, identity, meaning/purpose, morality and destiny. When you believe the Bible to be true, you allow it to be your guide for what you say and do. –Word count 128
Various individuals have different reasons as to why they exist and what they are supposed to fulfil. The Christian worldview of the meaning and purpose of life is to build and maintain a steady relationship with God. Christians believe in getting salvation as it is the key factor that links them with God. Every person has a different purpose in this world, but the common one is exemplifying and worshiping the Lord (Weider and Gutierrez, 2011).
Most define worldview as a foundational set of assumptions that will shape the understanding of individuals and how they internalize information and give a natural response. They are absolutely correct. Worldviews have evolved throughout the world. Instead of just one worldview it has taken a new phase of life and migrated in various places. Worldviews are what makes the world spin. According to the book “ introduction to global mission”, every culture or ethnic group holds a unique worldview, which refers to the way they view their reality”. Initially worldview is diverse in content and complex on a functional level.
A worldview is a one's individual and personal philosophy of life. It is a comprehensive system of and values that form one’s perception of reality. It is the foundation on which life is viewed and built and is therefore the driving force behind every emotion, decision and action. It governs how persons interact with each other, and impacts all areas of life as persons formulate views and opinions regarding matters of life, death, religion, and other decisions made daily.
The essence of a Christian worldview is to believe in the one and only true living God. As a Christian we understand that God loves and compassionate to his children is unfailing. His love for us will never run out. He loves us even when we are doing wrong. Christians believe in the death, burial and resurrection of his son Jesus Christ who was atonement for our sins. We understand that he is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. He is Lord of Lord and Kings of Kings. Christ is at the right hand of God interceding for us in heaven. Having a Christian worldview to some people that does not know God may seems foolish. In Roman 10:9 says, “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised
The perspectives we accept, the lens of what we observe through, the framework of ideas and attitudes, and our complicated system of beliefs, all have an impact on what we view as a worldview. Worldview is how we examine and interpret the world, reality, and many other things. It determines our values, beliefs, religion, and a multitude of other elements. Based on countless different variables, for example, the media(trends, quotes), the government(politics), parents, etcetera. Moreover, variables like the geography of the land and where you live can affect your worldview, for example, living in a first world country can be different from a living in a third world country as a result of the different lifestyles between the two. Furthermore, it impacts what we learn and how we learn, determining core values, what we believe is right and/or wrong and determine what is good or evil. However, based on worldview, there is no good/evil or right/wrong, it will be based on how you view the world.
Before taking this course, I had no idea that I had a worldview. I know my worldview didn’t change, but my understanding of myself, others and what that means changed enormously. I learned something very useful and important about the way I perceive things and gain knowledge; I learned about things I didn’t know previously.
Life after death is a concept that has been around for many centuries. Many philosophers came to the idea that there had to be something after our life ends. For some, they believe in the afterlife. Another concept is that of reincarnation. Reincarnation is the believe that once the physical body dies, the soul is then reborn as a different being. Some religious teachings are actually said to have skewed some of the details about reincarnation.
