What would the United States be like if no immigrants had ever come? It would be extremely empty and most of the people living in it now wouldn’t be here! Not only that, but people wouldn’t have brought all these different food types, information, and music styles with them. The USA would most definitely not be the multicultural country it is today without all the contributions from immigrants. Think of all the different food choices we have in the United States, we are all able to go eat Chinese, French, Italian food, mostly anything, because people from those countries immigrated to the US and they brought their cuisine and culture with them. Other places in the world don’t have the access that US residents do to all this variety of food. For them to get, let’s say, Japanese food, there probably wouldn’t be a Japanese restaurant right across the street like there is for people in the United States. However, food isn’t the only thing that immigrants have contributed to the society; they have also shared some very valuable and important knowledge with us. …show more content…

The articles "We Are Not A Nation of Immigrants" by Gina Loudon and "Many Forget U.S. is a Nation Built by Immigrants" by Lisa Miller both focus on immigrants living in America. Loudon's essay is primarily focused on how the United States is a nation created by pioneers and settlers; she argues that the U.S. is not a nation built by immigrants. Miller focuses her essay on the idea of America being a melting pot; she calls America a "blend of many different world cultures" (1). Despite the contrasting focuses of the essays, both Loudon and Miller are discussing aspects of immigration that either benefit or negatively impact America's future.
America was founded on the basis of immigration. Had the Europeans not come to North America, there would have been no colonies. Had there been no colonies, there would have been no United States of America. Immigration hold an essential role in the history of the United States. Despite this, there are still many who denounce immigration and all that it stands for. Many believe that their jobs are being stolen by immigrants. However, that cannot be farther than the truth. Immigration has been a burning issue lately, particularly after Donald Trump’s immigration ban in the United States of America. It has been a topic that families discuss every morning with breakfast. Despite many concerns related to immigration, it has several positive benefits that mostly outweighs the negativity. People bizarrely argue when it comes to immigration, but these arguments are primarily based on facts and ideas that are outdated or inconsistent and blindfold the positive aspect related to immigration. Many immigrants in the United States are good workers who don't depend upon any public welfare and mostly help in the overall development of the economy. As a country made by immigrants, we must not forget the fact that immigrants have helped to build cities and create a path of development form Google to iPhones (Gray & Furman, 2012). These facts are secluded, and some related arguments with different content have been repeated for years and continue. Immigrants have a lot to give the United States rather than to take, especially when it comes to economic terms.

Immigrants bring new ideas and ambitious spirit to the U.S. economy. Immigrants can provide an overall gain to the domestic economy due to an increase in pay for higher- skilled workers, more efficiency and lower wages for some owners of capital, and lower prices for goods and services produced by immigrants. They provide businesses which increase America’s ability to trade and invest in the global economy. Immigration has always been a topic of controversy (now more than ever). However, many Americans tend to forget their ancestors were all very much immigrants - most migrating to America in the pre-Civil Wars days such as the Germans, Irish, and Chinese. Immigrants traveled to the United States for many reasons. The Irish sought after a future in America after a potato famine left many families in great poverty and suffering from starvation. The German and Chinese also came in search of a better life, to provide for their families, and to chase after the “American Dream.”
In addition to the variety that the immigrants bring to America, they also contribute to the powerful economy. First of all, many immigrants who come to the United States often bring an exorbitant amount of money to invest. The investments create new job opportunities by starting new businesses, thus strengthening the economy. Silicon Valley was partly created by immigrants who went there to start their own businesses. Jerry Yang who was an immigrant from Taiwan founded the company, Yahoo. Now, Yahoo is considered to be one of the most prosperous Internet companies. Statistics support the fact that businesses founded by immigrants are frequently successful.

They help the U.S. out more than people know. The immigrants contribute so much to our economy, create better living situations not only themselves but for us as Americans as well, and we have more diversity.

Unfortunately, anti-immigration critics don’t understand that the policy of immigration is beneficial to not just the newcomers but also the nation. These ambitious immigrants add value to the nation’s economy and workforce when they come in to the country with legal documents. Losing these individuals would mean losing the cultural and the resources they bring in with them that helps create a better America. With this in mind, the diversity throughout the nation makes America look one of a kind from the rest of the world. Without a doubt, America should continue to show love and compassion towards the immigrants that made America what it is
