Today there is close to 11.7 million immigrants that are currently living in the United States illegally. These immigrants consist of a population that has changed little over the last three years, but shows signs that it may start possibly increasing again in the near future (Preston). Texas being right on the border has seen a constant flow of immigrants coming in across the border. I personally have witnessed illegal immigrants travel across open land near Laredo Texas, which had frightened because I didn’t know if they are apart of a drug cartel or not. This brings up the issue that there are not just migrant farmers traveling across from Mexico, but also immigrants coming from terrorist based nations that are a threat to the United States. …show more content…
Abbott exclaims,” We must do everything we can to defend Texans most basic rights endowed by our Creator and guaranteed in the Constitution.” (Abbott.) According to Greg Abbott’s policy plan, he wants to increase state spending to improve the security along the border. Staring at a package price of three hundred million dollars, Abbott will successfully add an additional five hundred DPS officers and twenty new Texas rangers to stop immigration. He may also use tools, resources, as well as any sort of technology that is needed protect the border and stop illegal immigrants. The Anti Smuggling Law plays a huge role in Abbott’s policy.
Working with the Texas legislature, Greg Abbott has fought to increase penalties for immigrants and improve coordination within the law enforcement community. The party on Abbott’s side believes that amnesty towards those who have broken immigration laws only encourages future immigrants to enter the country illegally rather than legally. While the Republicans recognize that the number of foreign immigrants travelling here has enriched our country, they also believe that requiring them to do so legally is vital to the safety of
Immigration has played a large role in the history of the United States since the very founding of the country. As even the founding fathers of the United States were immigrants coming to the U.S. to seek a better life. For varies reasons, immigrants have been traveling to America to seek a better life whether to achieve better economic opportunity, religious freedom, and/or political refuge (Jiménez). These reasons have caused immigrants to flood into the U.S. In the most recent years’, weather to allow immigration to keep going as it is has been a hot topic for America. For years to decades’ immigrations has been an issue and maybe in some way a solution to big business gain. Is a real way to fix it or find a balance? It has been and will always be an ongoing subject with politics to come. Since the 1800s Texas borders has had a large population of undocumented immigrants. Though in the current century it does not have the high population with undocumented immigrant now, it is a targeted border for migration.
On the South Western border of the United States roughly 2000 immigrants cross the border illegally from Mexico every day. The vast majority of these immigrants are seeking financial security and a safer life in the United States however, some are coming over to traffic weapons and drugs for gangs and cartels. It is these few individuals that have caused the U.S. government to pursue a multi-billion dollar defense along the border.
“Senate Bill 4 is a piece of legislation that Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed in May and it aims to ban “sanctuary cities” by requiring sheriffs, constables, police chiefs and other local leaders to cooperate with federal immigration authorities and allows police to ask about the immigration status of individuals they lawfully detain” (Alvarez). The consequences for sheriffs, constables, police chiefs and other local leaders if they do not follow the legislation are that they could face Class A misdemeanor and possibly jail time (Mansoor & Pollock). “In addition, they can could face civil penalties ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 for the first violation and $25,000 to 25,500 for consecutive offenses” (Alvarez). Many people are against Senate

According to The Texas Politics Project (2017), “the state’s population grew by 7.2 percent – over 1.8 million people – between 2010 and 2014” (p. 11.10). This growing population also brings with it great diversity, including a growing number of Hispanics. Immigration has been a burning issue lately, particularly after Donald Trump’s immigration ban in the United States of America. It has been a topic that families discuss every morning with breakfast. Despite many concerns related to immigration, it has several positive benefits that mostly outweighs the negativity. People bizarrely argue when it comes to immigration, but these arguments are primarily based on facts and ideas that are outdated or inconsistent and blindfold the positive aspect related to immigration. Many immigrants in the United States are good workers who don't depend upon any public welfare and mostly help in the overall development of the economy. As a country made by immigrants, we must not forget the fact that immigrants have helped to build cities and create a path of development form Google to iPhones (Gray & Furman, 2012). These facts are secluded, and some related arguments with different content have been repeated for years and continue. Immigrants have a lot to give the United States rather than to take, especially when it comes to economic terms.
I myself am a Texas native and although I don't reside in a border town, I feel illegal immigration an border security is something that's plaguing both my beloved Texas, as well as our great nation. I am a United States born hispanic American; my parents are U.S. born citizens as are my grand parents and many generations before. So it is with careful calculation that I have viewed this pressing issue and compiled my stance on what I feel would be most beneficial to all parties concerned.
The article titled “City of Dallas to join fight against Texas immigration law”1 summarizes Dallas’ Mayor, Mike Rawlings, recently shared opinions on the Senate Bill 4 that will begin on September of 2017. Like many of the Texans, he currently opposes this bill and states that “[it] is unconstitutional and [will] infringe upon the city's ability to protect public safety.”2 To conclude the article, it states that Dallas will join other cities and take legal action in opposition to this bill, but it is still uncertain if they will file their own lawsuit.
With the influx of drugs, weapons and illegal immigrants coming to Texas, it is no doubt that securing our border is in the agenda of our state and local governments. Improvements on border security is one of the demand that voters also want their state representatives and senators to focus on. Polls conducted by the University of Texas before the
Texas has been an immigrant destination since its founding, but as the rate of Illegal immigration increased. The policy from the federal government has been shifted from openness to increase enforcement to patrol the border and pass more and more laws restricting legal migration in to the country. Since Texas has the longest border with Mexico, enforcing the rules has been tough. In response to the enforcement gap the state has plug the enforcement gap by using local and state enforcement agency to assist the federal government, while at the same time treating the illegal immigrant already in the state with some leniency.
U.S has a 1,900 miles long border with Mexico of which 1,254 miles exists in Texas. There is a persistent threat of drug smuggling, illegal aliens, violent gangs, and the concomitant rise in violence is no more evident than in the state of Texas. To enter into the United States without permissions is a federal crime. Illegal immigration is an arduous problem to solve and most likely will never be thoroughly solved. Never the less, it is a problem that
The Article Immigration Policy: Should the U.S. government take stricter measures to limit illegal immigration (February 9, 2017), focuses on whether the U.S. should adopt stricter measures for illegal immigration. Supporters believe that illegal immigrants pose a threat to national security. Undocumented immigrants are not in the system, so their criminal records are inaccessible. Additionally, supporters believe that immigrants take the jobs of Americans. Companies tend to give immigrants jobs because they will work for cheap wages. However, the opponents of the law believe stricter measures for illegal immigrants shouldn’t be done because most of the country's technological breakthroughs are due to immigrants. Opponents believe that immigrants help the economy because they take the jobs that not many workers take, such as farming or physical work. Immigration policy argument will continue until there is common ground established between everyone whether to there should be stricter measures or another way for them to become documented.

Illegal immigration, a hot topic among many Americans. Many americans seem to think that illegal immigrants are the sources of all the nations problems. The question that remains is are these people right? While illegal immigrants can cause some issues throughout the nation such as higher crime rates, terrorist threats, and disadvantage to american workers, they also do many good things such as boost the economy, add more cultural influence, and provide a cheap labor force.
According to UNHCR a refugee agency, 65.3 million people are living in war zones. Another 5.5 billion people of all faiths face some form of religion persecution, including physical violence.
