One major problem in our society currently, is gun rights. There are two parts to this everlasting debate on these rights. The side that agrees and says “If we do not have guns to protect ourselves with, that would put a lot of us in serious danger”, and there is the side that says “Take away the right for people to own a gun, If we make it illegal there will be less murders and deaths.”
The side that I think makes the most sense would be the side that agrees with guns rights, because if we do encounter a burglary we would not have anything to defend ourselves with. Most likely the people who would break into your house to steal something wouldn’t stop because it’s illegal to own a weapon, they would go out and steal or find one. If they went

But most of these people will obtain a weapon someway, somehow. If we do not have a way to protect ourselves from them, we could possibly be seriously injured or worse.
About every 18 seconds a burglary occurs. Will you be next? You should always have a way to protect yourself from the harms of people. Roughly 62,000 people are either injured or killed in a attempt at murder. 73% of these injured people did not carry any type of weapon with them, if they had there would have been not as many deaths or injuries per year. If you carry a weapon with you you are more likely to not be injured.
Over the years as ownage of handguns have rapidly increased, the rates of robberies have majorly decreased. 60% of robbers admit that they avoided victims if they knew they were armed, while 40% of them admitted that they avoided commiting crimes when they thought the victim was armed. Guns prevent around 2.5 million crimes per year, even if most of the time the gun isn’t even fired. Guns can be very helpful and have decreased the amount of robberies and burglaries by a landslide in the past few years. Gun rights have proven to be very helpful, all the facts point to gun rights limiting threats and saving lives. All these reasons are why I think gun rights should be
Countless opinions have been broadcasted on national news media regarding what society ought to do about gun control. This controversial topic sparks many heated debates with people of either position reluctant to compromise. Gun supporters claim that the proposed gun laws infringe on their constitutional right to bear arms. Conversely, others believe that restricted gun access would cause gun violence to decrease. Regardless of what side one stands on, with the increase in gun violence, it is safe to say that something must be done.
National Crime Victimization Survey data,”robbery and assault victims who used gun to resist were less likely to be attacked”. John Lott, PhD,and David Mustard. PhD, which claim “more guns equal less crime”. This shows that you don't even need to harm someone to protect yourself .
The Conservative side, I would say, is for the outcome of the decision of District of Colombia vs. Heller. The District of Columbia law prohibits handgun ownership. They were able to do so by making it illegal to obtain an unregistered firearm and preventing somebody to be able to register a handgun. This District of Colombia vs. Heller was a case that won in a 5-4 decision that the Second Amendment protects the right for an individual to have the right to bear arms for self defense purposes. Conservatives agree with this amendment because one should always have the right to protect oneself against another.
Recent incidents of gun violence have brought a new group of supporters against gun violence. Increasing support from the young people has significantly strengthened the gun control movement. For instance, thousands of students participated in a demonstration after the Parkland shooting, and this was one of the largest demonstrations by students in the US history (Holpuch, 2018). The students’ demonstration included a memorial for the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school shooting. The youth-led campaign has been creating pressure for the government to act. According to Szekely (2018), the students’ participation in the demonstration against the killing of their fellows “has chipped away at legislative gridlock on the issue.”
Gun Control is a very controversial topic of today, many people believe that you stricter laws should be put in place to completely abolish the second amendment. Whereas the other side of the table thinks that if you want to exercise your rights you should be completely free to do so. I fall in towards the middle more towards the anti gun control. Guns should be able to be freely obtained within reason, convicted felons should have no right to own weapon. Though today there are loopholes helping criminals have the ability to get them. The “gun show loophole” is the first, it is a theory that is controversial because of its thought that it affects crime rates, usually this notion is brought up by gun control advocates. Gun shows are thought to be the reason that criminals can purchase a weapon without having to have a background check. Another loophole is called the “straw purchaser” this is also a thought that helps criminals or people who should not own a weapon purchase a weapon. This paper will help to determine what these loopholes are and how it could be
98% percent of robberies and murders happen in gun free-zones. The LA school shooting that happened on February first, this was stopped because the shooter was overheard by a security guard and he notified the school and police. The shooter came to school one day he had injured 4 people and the security guard had then shot the shooter before any more people were injured.(The Simple Truth) This shows that if schools had a security guard or if the teachers were are armed it would be less likely for the attacker to succeed. (The School Safety Bill) If the parkland shooting would have looked at the signs and had an armed security guard, I believe it wouldn’t have happened or been near as severe. Another example of people bearing arms and it showing the crime and Murder rate will go down, is that Switzerland has no gun free zones and allows people to bear arms after they take a course. They have the lowest murder rate in the world. There was only one gun related death last year, and only 47 people were injured from them. (The Simple Truth) An example of how if we ban guns it won’t help anything is in Australia. Their government banned guns and the crime and murder rate has gone up by almost 30% and the crime rate with knives and other weapons has gone over 60% percent of the crimes, which means that 40% of the other crimes are still committed with guns. (The Simple
A recent poll shows that America is number one for the highest gun ownership rate internationally. Per 100 residents 88.8 are gun owners. Then it goes on to show that out of the international rate for homicide America was one of the lowest coming in at 4.8 out of 100,000 and coming in number 103 for the international homicide rate. In 1982, Kennesaw, Georgia passed a law that required the head of the household to have at least one firearm in the house. Since that was passed the residential burglary rate dropped by 89% in Kennesaw. These statistics show that the more homes or residents that are armed the less crime there is. “Homicides committed with firearms peaked in 1993 at 17,075, after which the figure steadily fell, reaching a low of 10,117 in 1999. Gun-related homicides increased slightly after that, to a high of 11,547 in 2006, before falling again to 10,869 in
Gun laws have been a big part our history but because it was use inappropriately gun control was created.guns are weapons that can take lives away instantly .guns have been apart of of american society since the arrival of the first european settlers .arms are part of this culture and history.and has been passed down to generations to generations. In the article Jonah goldberg believes that this has been going on for years the arguing on gun laws. The massive shootings have some part to do with this i feel like all the massive shootings like the Las Vegas shooting or the slaughter at a texas church on a sunday has to do with guns or armed weapons. Jonah goldberg believes that it doesn't matter what kind of weapon it is its still considered a
“The gun ownership rates in those more rural parts of the country are about 111 percent higher than the gun ownership rates in the urban areas that have the highest murder rates.” How can something intend to create order in society actually create chaos? Society is the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community. Laws are provided for our own good to use as guidelines when making critical decisions and to prove justice accordingly. Unlike most legislature, these laws are made stringently to prevent or protect any signs of precariousness not protected by law enforcement. Gun laws are very important to the extent that they save, and prevent the cadaverous body. However, the overproduction of laws too soon can cause
“Guns, whether Remingtons or Glocks./ Come on man it ain't like I'm a slingin' 'em on the block./ I'm gonna tell you once and listen son./ As long as I'm alive and breathing,/ You won't take my guns./” (“Guns” by Justin Moore). This song shows how people express their rights to bear arms. It also creates a clear picture of how important Guns are to the American people. Some people believe it is unconstitutional for us to have them and is pointless. Some want some restrictions because of the shootings. As many of us know it our constitutional right and is used for a self defense mechanism against criminals when the police cannot respond fast enough.
You are home alone late at night and you hear the front door slam open. You hear footsteps up the stairs getting closer and closer. You are very scared and do not know what to do, so you call 911, as you are calling your door swings open and the assailant is pointing a gun at you. It is too late; by the time the police come the assailant has already taken your life. If you had a gun and reached for it while you called 911, you might still be here today. That is the debate here in the United States and will continue to be for many years to come. The decision to arm citizens with firearms is heavily discussed on a daily basis with numerous different opinions and anecdotes. The scene I have previously described does happen and is a primary example of why citizens should be armed. This example is just one of the reasons citizens in America should own guns. It would be a much safer country if law- abiding citizens were armed as well as the criminals. Not allowing us to own firearms is a direct invasion of the Second Amendment to the Constitution, a diminishment of freedom we have earned. In addition, Criminals will continue to own guns whether it is illegal or not regardless of the consequences. If those are not eye-opening enough, the ability to own guns will cause more people to be trained so that larger attacks do not occur. If gun owners had been present in some of the past shootings, things might have turned out differently.
I agree that in some cases, if the victims have a gun they could defend themselves against armed criminals, but in most cases they can’t. There is a big percent of people in the US that have a gun or more in their house. They argue that they own a those guns just in case someone comes into their homes trying to hurt their family. Most people have their guns lock away in the closed or inside a safe. I think it’s not going to be possible for victims can even to get their guns. If the victims realize their home is being robbed or attacked before they criminals get in, maybe they will have a better chance of chasing out the criminals or defending themselves, but most people realize they have become victims when the criminals is already inside
About 55 million people in the United States own guns. Most of them would most likely be against gun control. I am on their side. It is unfair to the people that the government would control them and not let them have guns. While they think it is for the good of the people, many do not agree.
I believe that if we had gun control then death rates would go down. With more gun laws,it will be safer.I think that guns should only be used for government forces and hunting.People should need a license to own a gun with a valid reason. Also the second amendment doesn’t protect criminals. Here is my reasoning.
For this reason it is safe to say that guns can help stop crimes from happening. In this same article it says that U.S. civilians used guns to defend themselves from about 989,883 crimes per year. Now just think about that number and think about what those numbers would be majorly lower than they are now without guns.
